when I first started out on Ralos Zek PVP server - the enchanters were able to charm other players - - they had me attacking my friends - lol - it was pretty cut throat - - Player killers running trains on people in Black Burrow - - it sucked but it was awesome - you really had to keep your wits about you - - sadly these days the Quenos Hills are mostly abandoned by all but Fippy Darkpaw

Overall helpful information if not a little outdated. Like has been said before in other comments most classes are neutral as of August 18, 2010, in GU 57. With the alignment based being Pally/SK for Fighter, Swashy/Brig for Scout, Conjy/Necro for mage, and Mystic/ Defiler for Priest. Also, I would like to point out that at this point all of the classes are free to play and a little annoyed that you skipped over in my Opinion one of the best classes in the game being Channeler, but included info about the Beastlord, which was also a class added later on by the way. Overall, very helpful but please get the facts right, and as another creator in the Niche I hope to see you grow and flourish the game really is under rated and deserves more credit in the genre😄

I started playing just before Kunark was released. It was so much fun and alive. I remember creating a bard in Freeport and was amazed at how vibrant and teeming with people who were also playing the game. The city resembled a real city; there were hundreds of people moving about, talking, questing, selling and buying, and just living life. You had to use your entire computer with the original client. For example, I had a druid that would have to open the book to meditate and regain mana. I would pull with a snare, cast a dot, run just far enough to keep aggro and then sit down and meditate by opening the spell book, which took up the entire screen. I would then have to listen to the footsteps of the mob as it approached and guess when the best time would be to stand up and cast again. It was definitely trial and error. I remember meeting my first friend, Ben, and his wife, while grouping in Befallen. We died a horrible death by falling down the well and it took hours to get our corpses and gear back. Eventually, a large "raid" team of high levels (back then, they were 25-30ish) had to go down and retrieve not only our corpses, but the corpses of level 20-25s that tried to help us; there were a couple dozen of us waiting for our corpses. Our group received a stern talking to about being responsible and that next time, people might not help. I definitely have lost a bit of gear over the years. You could buff not only players, but random mobs. Just for fun, in the East Commonlands, we would buff a low-level skeleton with level 30+ cleric buffs and watch it tear through people. Inevitably, a player would run into the tunnel where people were selling and the skeleton, now uber buffed, would tear through a bunch of players before being killed. Also, you could drop coin on the ground and people could pick it up. This lead us to drop like 10,000 copper on the ground, which would make it almost impossible to move without strength and/or speed buffs. Some low level character would pick it up and be stuck as the mobs got closer. You would hear panicked shouts asking for help, which most people would, but a lot of times not in time. We also used coins to draw arrows in dungeons to mark where we had been or mark the way for group members who would join us. We had to be creative without maps. Good memories!

I could give you real gameplay in any zone from the original 1999 client from disk. I have an old version of EQEmulator that was modified to support it. Then, you could see all the fantastic bugs in the client we used to exploit as well back then. I used to GM rez, port, haste, and heal as a level 4 magician, it was glorious.

If you solo, or rather molo (solo with a merc), there is hardly any difference between classes. It breaks down to what graphics you like. First, on LIVE, with a merc, you can almost 1 shot most mobs, regardless of level. As long as they don't one shot you or the mobs are too high, you'll do okay. For example, my 43 bruiser just (like 10 seconds ago) wandered into Unrest and was attacked by two level 72 mobs and survived the run to the zone. The only thing that matters is that you push the buttons when they are not grey to do damage. I've NEVER had to use Feign Death on my monks or bruisers, ever, on LIVE. The fights are too short. Second, again, on LIVE, death has elaborately no meaning. If you die, you get a death exp penalty that you have to pay back. It's not a lot and you will easily get it back within a few kills. Third, no fight lasts long on LIVE servers. None. Root does nothing, as the mob dies too quickly for that to matter. DoTs don't matter, the fight doesn't last long enough for the damage to matter. Fourth, on LIVE you will NOT find groups until level 130 (as of July 2024, with the latest expansion). I've paid for a subscription for the last 3 years and the ONLY groups I have found have been on the recent Origins server. On LIVE, I have not had one group. Ever. Fifth, on LIVE, you will be WAAAAAY behind the curve if you want to raid and haven't been playing forever or you're not willing to pay a lot of real-life money. The top raiders, let alone the top tier of raiders, have been a part of the game for 2 decades! EQ2 Origins could be fun, but it's gimped by a half-ass attempt to recapture 2004/2006-ish, but with corporate greed running it. At least it's not a gimme' like LIVE is, but it's completely, 180 degrees opposite in that it's too tough

These steps don't work in my Windows 10 on my PC but I am so untechnical when something goes wrong it's me ha! Also this tutorial is 5 months old so could that be the problem? I went to MicroSoft Edge and it said something like "We can't help you removed Copilot from your system" when they were the ones who put it in. I remember I'd get notices like add their wonderful Copilot to your system with a button to "accept" but no button to not accept and you couldn't close the window. Twice I got out of it only by shutting down. This time they went a step further. I had an update notice and clicked for that at shut-down but when I restarted suddenly there was Copilot with a white vertical bar taking space on my desktop. I can't find any simple uninstall. I have Windows 10 and I use FireFox or Duck Duck Go so should I just uninstall MicroSoft Edge or will that cause problems with various functions in my computer? Big corps have their ways and I wonder how this is a similar scenario with the future of AI and a parallel to George Orwell's famous novel.

@@mwj5368 Microsoft windows operating systems now require edge to run your desktop unfortunately. Edge is something you can't remove, however you should not have that set as your Default browser. Use something like Chrome or Firefox. Then in setting make that your default browser. As far as windows 10 and the age of the tutorial...yeah there are issues. This was for Windows 11 but should be usable on anything back to Vista tbh with restore system functionality.

There's some good info in this video, and I hate to be that guy, but you missed out on something big here - every Archetype has always had one Neutral Class. Fighters -> Warriors -> Both Guardian and Berserker have always been Neutral (can play as good or evil) Scouts -> Bards -> Troubadours and Dirges are Neutral. Priests -> Druids -> Warden and Fury are Neutral, and Mage -> Wizards/Warlocks are Neutral These classes have been neutral since launch. Later in the game's life, they made even more classes into neutral classes. In Origins, these will be neutral classes. I want to expand a little bit more too on a few Wizards are a little more Single Target Direct Damage based, Warlocks have a little more AoE and use more Damage over time spells. Warden is generally more defensive while Fury is generally more offense (which is basically what he said). Monk is also more defensive and monk skills do a little less damage but have lower cooldown where Bruiser is more offensive and bigger burst/single hits. Brigand generally makes the group do more damage to the mob where Swashbucklers can reduce the damage output of mobs a bit better. Dirges have better melee buffs and tank buffs where troubadours have better caster buffs, but they both buff everyone at least some.

I went back to EQ1 and had a great time going from 1-110ish, at that point mercenaries started to be ineffective. I tried boxing a full group and did so for a while but kinda burned out negotiating six accounts. Question: does EQ2 truly allow a monk or SK to solo with a mercenary to whatever max level is or is it more like EQ1 where it’s pretty good but not okay once you get toward max level.?

Basically, yes... But you'll never solo raid content in eq2 unless you're doing something funky or waaaaay overleveled... Try soloing the heritage quest for the light stone in commonlands. With any class under level 100 it's virtually impossible

If everyone was like you we wouldn't have these independent studios building games and we'd just get more rinse/repeat triple A titles (like Diablo IV *yawn*). There's currently a massive funding crisis for smaller studios and many are shutting down (largely due to Microsoft and the Embracer Group buying up studios and then running out of money to support them), leaving only the Blizzard/Activisions to keep pumping out the same tripe year after year. Some of us want to support these studios in early development if the game is interesting and starting to look good, and Pax Dei is. And to prove just how wrong a whiney twat you are, Pax Dei enters early access this month. It won't be perfect, but I'll be paying and playing. I hope they do well.

Who cares about console game history? PC gaming goes back to first PCs in early 80s, like Atari 400, then C64, Amiga, early MSDOS and WfW. I played this progression right into Everquest in 1999. Few realized how pioneering Everquest was. It demonstrated how connectivity could be used to create virtual communities and economies. An early example of a Metaverse! Today's metaverse efforts would do well to study the history of the development and dynamics of Everquest.

Wow, this brings back some memories. Addiction to EQ pretty much killed my college grades. I was kinda "on the scene" doing a lot of stuff back then with MMO's. They were "the next big thing". Personally, I think MMO's really started with Meridian59. It was made/published by 3DO interactive I think. I don't remember how I got into it, but it was a pretty brutal game. It wasn't true 3D, most of a simulated 3D with sprites, kinda like Doom. But, it had servers, guilds, zones, shops, and intergrated PVP system, which made it brutal. You hand random PK's (player killers), it was an interesting dynamic cause they were usually hunted down and killed enough to force them to reroll. EQ came after this. Alot of the people I met playing M59, went to EQ. As I recall, I think I played on Povar. I had a wood elf ranger, and we all played pretty much from launch. The launch itself was ugly in terms of server performance. Having been there from the beginning, EVERYTHING was new. It was like being an explorer in a new frontier. I was, I think, one of the first people to start pulling Mistmore, (aka "Trainmore"). I figured out how to pull it without causing a train. In hindsight, EQ was hideous in it's rare spawn/rare drop form of gameplay. Whichever character class you were playing needed specific items in order to improve. Said items only existed on a mob that rarely spawned, so you had to sit there, and camp the area that mob spawned in. For every 1 time that mob spawned, you probably had to kill 50 place holders. I remember we had the spawn cycle timed. It could be every 20 minutes i think, or 30, i forget. And for every 10 times that mob spawned, it might have the item you wanted, just one of those times. No sir, I've not the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia on this one. I think my /played time was probably 300+ or so DAYs, i think, pretty sure it wasn't measured in hours. No, EQ can be buried in the dustheap of history. I'll never get back the time I wasted on it. Did I mention it killed my grades in college?
