Street Fighter (1987) has bonus stages. Final Fight introduced 'throws' to the combat and Guy, Sodom, Rolento and Cody join the Street Fighters in the Zero/Alpha series, which, interestingly, did away with the bonus stages.

The bonus stages were added to teach players certain mechanics of the game. The car one in particular is teaching players how to jump to the other side.
