Nice post as usual, thanks! I use Phazer v4 65l as my main board and can compare it only to a Nomad v1 115l which I use for very lite days as it floats. My impression is that although the Nomad is accelerating much faster first, but then it kinda slows down and it's much harder to pupm it out of the water, as the tail is to floaty to push it under the water. If there is just enough wind to pump my wing efectively, it's a lot easier for me to come up on the foil with my Phazer 65l and also easier to ride/control the board in litewind conditions. When I was using a Phazer v2 46l, it felt like I can start pumping the board whilst still under water. Just curios how the smaller Nomads perform and if they are easier to pump up, given that theyr tail bottom is abslolutely flat... Btw, how is the new Life wing?

Not tried the life yet, new factory, new tech… looks interesting. pumping when up is the same pretty much. Don’t tend to pump much winging 🤷♂️👍

Nice review. I got myself the previous nomad 6'6 last summer and it absolutely transformed the way i wing ... really love how it just feels like surfing when you're on flat water. I think my go to for higher winds might be a 70ish Phazer ... but maybe 55 nomad now after watching this? :-D

Hi Mike. I think the obvious solution would be a 5'4''x21''x55l phazer. The length/width ratio is more important than the differences in bottom shape and the phazer is already quite efficient, I have the 55l. And while they are on it, Clinton please move the boxes fwd 2'', as well as the back strap plugs which should also have two full offset rows. Which is why i don't like boards below 20'' with pin tails, they suck with an offset stance or bigger foils, the lever is too small..
@PeteJonesF66 күн бұрын
I'm going to add some comments in response to some of the questions, I hope you don't mind past or future Mike. I think you got it spot on about our riding styles and what we look for. I think the nomad is perhaps a little easier to balance on in a 'just' sinking volume, as short lengths are a bit more tricky than narrow widths IMHO. In terms of waves I think the phaser is better for the small stuff and the nomad for the bigger stuff, the extra length is a little easier to touch the smaller curvier waves but, as the wave size increases, this is less of an issue, and being able to bank it further without touching is preferable. You do of course lose a little pitch control which is again more important for high frequency/fast adjustments and less for a more flowing ride.

Hi there, whats the weight of the 55l nomad?
@ktwo-surf6 күн бұрын
It's away being tested at the moment with the foil mag, but it feels a lot lighter than I expected. So much so I mailed the designer and asked if the construction had changed - he said no, but they had doubled down on q/c in the factory to make sure only structural weight went in, and I believe him. My phazer seemed much heavier. As an eps core I doubt even a hand built eps custom board with vacc tech could get down lighter than this. It's very impressive.

Your videos are so good. Some true in-depth thoughts on topics that we all wonder about. Much appreciation for all your efforts 🤙 One think I ‘d like to know, how does the low end of a 55 nomad compares to a floater size nomad?
@ktwo-surf6 күн бұрын
good question - I have not bench tested.. but I would say, judging on how early the 55 goes that the difference between big and small nomads is not as great as big and small phazers. If you can get the nomad 55 to the surface and can pump (have enough wind in the wing to opump effectively) then you are gone. That is not true of the 55 phazer... so the gap between big and small nomads probably less than the phazer. @PeteJonesF6 could add to this as he's got a lot of experience with the next size up of both.
@PeteJonesF65 күн бұрын
In a perfectly steady wind there will be a certain strength where you'll be unable to get the sinker nomad to the surface but the floater will already be there and foiling in no time. At the bleeding edge of light wind performance your foil and technique are important, but for most people riding in sensible wind strengths or can benefit from gusts to get the board up the real world difference is likely to be less. It's perhaps more likely people will opt to use a smaller wing than try to go out in silly light winds (like i often do :))

How is the stability of the narrow mid length board when getting to your knees and then to your feet and while taxi to takeoff? I wing in choppy ocean conditions and wonder if the narrow width would make the board hard to get up and going

Hi Mike of the Christmas present, I hope you are well. It's a great video, with lots of fuel for thought . Personally, I've been looking at these boards for a while not so much for the low end and more for the ability to lean them over in a wave without clipping a rail as I currently often do , what's your thoughts on this ? Does the slim outline help prevent clipping of the rail . Thanks for sharing 👍
@ktwo-surf6 күн бұрын
Hi dude, I see the marras are really charging these days… Respect! For me the extra control of the Phazer wins in waves, and if it’s a choice been foil popping out and catching the rail, then your crazy angle turns need a longer mast… But…. Some days the waves are so good but the winds so light… in this situation the nomad wins 100x over as you can’t get a Phazer going, your just meat for the shore break!

Hi, thanks for the review. Would Nomad still be the better pick if riding flat water in inland lakes? And no wave riding at all.
@ktwo-surf6 күн бұрын
for 90% of people the nomad is better for wave riding, and for lakes - absolutely. It's a better board all over, aside for the few who only care about full speed / full power. The irony is, I revere people who have flow and that is the Nomad 100%
@martinomovies6 күн бұрын
Inland lakes you don’t really have big waves that you can surf and will knock into your rail unless it’s a big inland lake like Lake Michigan. So the mid length would be nice.
@ktwo-surf6 күн бұрын
@martinomovies if you are smooth and have flow then midlength ideal - they are also superior in gusty wind where it's unreliable. If you ride like Adgate, then you'll prefer the Phazer...

either would be fine - larger would make lighter wind riding easier and go upwind better but would limit you ability to pin down speed and power when you push more expert riding levels. inflatable boards are a solution to a problem - storage. They are most certainly not a solution to handling - they are notoriously terrible. Sorry to say, route of pitch control is in stiffness and the associated hardware response it brings. - foil and especially board…. Inflatable boards are terrible. Nice videos and superb riding @Ktwo! May I ask, is that the Freewing pro you’re using in this video? What can you say about that wing? Is it still worth buying them if I would get a good deal? Which one do you prefer, the Air v3 or the Pro v1? Is the pro good in waves and as an all rounder too?
@ktwo-surf17 күн бұрын
Hi Sir, Thanks for the kind words. Freewing pro was a favourite of mine for a number of reasons. Massive windrange - super powerful, very composed at high load - It was also indestructible - I did not break one in 2 years and no stretch either - none 0 same wing after 2 years as it was on day 1.. The 3 is a bit twitchy, the 5 a bit powerful but the 4 is very good. flag out fine (if a bit more draggy), maybe heavier compared to nitro, I preferred them a lot more than the freewing V3, which was not powerful enough for me. go for the pro...

Nice vid. Guess I'll follow your suggestion and get the front strap soon, as since I downsized board roll control has been terrible, impacting my abilty to pump the board
@ktwo-surf21 күн бұрын
I am only recently starting to get the 'feel' for fast pumping. It's a real art. I think people underestimate - how high you need to be, - how when you compress the ideal is to not have the board pointing down so that you just sink the mast - the front wing has to bite. - how you have to match your speed to the foil - drop slightly under this threshold and you are toast. - how the majority of the compress goes through the back foot, not the front - how the end of the stoke has to give you altitude, right back up to the very tip toes of your mast. When I do get it nailed I'll make a vid on pumping, I'm still not 100% dialled yet.

@@ktwo-surfpumping is really exhaustive in low winds. The board shape is also an important element to be taken into account. Some shapes drag a lot, keeping speed low.

@ktwo-surfАй бұрын
I used it as an anticavitation pl;ate, but since learned something else about cavitation - biggest cause is air getting sucked up the inside of the tape - you need to 100% seal the trailing edge of the mast and the cavitation plate (with built in fairing to hide the motor) really helps. I run 15cm, with a 5 cm inset, so my pod is slammed.

Great "engineering around". I share 100% what you're saying about stiffness. I have been wake thieving with Foildrive a lot trying to catch a wave that runs at 33-37km/h😅. It threw me off with the same 4'6" bamboo tech board and then it'd be controllable and rideable with a 4'6" full carbon board. You even feel less the swing weight due to the battery case. Pumping efficiency increases! In Downwinding it makes you work/pump less since you feel more. At first you need to get into it though..all the turbulence is also transferred right to your feet😅.Good job 👏 Bravo
