As a tank. It CAN be problematic if DPS pull. But in general, if a DPS is pulling, its because you are pulling too few / too slowly / to safely. My rule is if DPS are pulling, Pull first. Pull More. Pull FASTER. PULL EVERYTHING! PULL THE WALL! PULL THE WORLD!!! You will feel the limit when the healer starts sweating "OOM". When the healer Mana stays below half for more than a couple of seconds, its time to rest. This way it's "The healer sets the pace." and I think that is the most wholesome way to do it, because NOBODY is gonna shit on the healer.

I read people saying that the DPS endanger the party because of taking adds etc etc, i agree DPS never must lead and take the pull, i personally cant let them die but it makes me a bit angry but FF had been using the same system of 2 big pulls then boss since HW, so as a Tank i must be able to get the big pull and survive it unless you have a bad healer or you did some power level (you are a newbie), so at least in ff14 there are not an issue about grabing adds like other games, just in ARR content, but there is an issue with MF DPS grabbing the pulls and not avoiding the AOEs just harrashing healers and the DG Pace

I dont know why FF14 didnt make every tank stance switch like Warrior, lossing a GCD on PLD felt so clunky and made tank swaps feel awkward, a your waiting for your next GCD to pull agrro. But ultimately i enjoyed it, i do see why they removed it as some Tanks wanted to max out their numbers, but it always came at a price, and put alot of conflict between tanks and healers especially. It reminds me when they changed cleric stance in stormblood, which as a shit healer i was overjoyed, no accidentally healing my team with the wrong stance. I imagine some healers didnt like the change. I think in general aggressive tank stance always felt cool and fun, but i did see the problems it caused.

i feel like SE almost had the idea implemented correctly when they release sage. to me SE isn't brave enough to embrace the nature of healer dealing damage enough that we only get Kardia-Kardion effect. If they lean more to the correlation between damaging and healing more, maybe it can be a good step forward to rework the healer. But for now, things will not change. And the TOP no healer clear is just the effect of how a content designed where healer is supposed to do more DPS than healing but SE doesn't give healer many option to be unique, fun, or rewarding for both dealing damage & healing

@Orih9 Жыл бұрын
I think an important thing to distinguish is that reducing the amount of healing you need to do is always the objective of healers across all RPGs. Healing is a response to taking damage, which is always what the party seeks to reduce, and a good healer is looking for the right heal for a given situation--i.e. using the healing that you get the most value of so that you have to spend less healing resources to address a situation. What makes FFXIV different in this approach comes from a combination of factors: Fights do not output damage constantly in this game, and there are huge break periods between when the party is forced to take damage. Healers have considerably more healing resources than they often know what to do with. Certain non-healer jobs have considerable amounts of party sustain and healing support. Many healers have been unhappy with the direction of the healer role for the least 4+ years, and many of those healers have since abandoned healing in favor of tanks or DPS which offer far more engaging gameplay at all levels of difficulty. That might not be how every player feels, and that's totally okay, but this walkout of healers has steadily grown, and it's become more and more challenging for party finder groups to get healers as a result. Resolving this issue is going to require tackling all three of those points, not just one. Fights need to deal damage more frequently. Healers need to be retuned to compliment this frequency by slimming down their healing action library and giving them more offensive spells that make moments between damage still feel fun and engaging. And non-healer support needs to be dialed back and exist to support the healer's experience rather than replace them.

Healers aren't in a bad state. Your talking about the best of the best in the game. To make healers more relevant to that extreme level of play get rid of the non healer raises and let smn and rdm do more damage.

Healers are in a bad state. Taru mentions earlier in the vid that the most optimal way to heal is oGCDs and trying not to use GCD heals since all 3 roles are so focused on dps. Other MMOs, healers have to constantly heal vast majority of the time. But FF14, hardly ever with so much down time to continuously deal damage and tank self heals.

So quick disclaimer, I've not seen or done every single inch of content in this game yet, so take some of my thoughts/college essay here with a grain of salt, alright? ^^' I do kinda rack my brain a little bit every time this argument comes up. While I feel like there is *some* valid criticism over the nature of how healer works in this game, the "The less you heal, the better you're playing the class" thing feels incredibly disingenuous and a backwards way of looking at it. ANY game that has a healer can operate under this philosophy. If a healer doesn't need to heal, that means that their teammates are doing a good job avoiding damage, which ideally everyone should be trying to do anyway, yes? There's another comment saying, quote: "It's not good design when mistakes are the only thing that makes the healer valuable in a fight to correct. This is not how healers should be designed." That's literally what a healer is designed for, what the hell are you talking about? You see an attack, you dodge it. If you don't dodge it successfully, the healer will heal you. What about in FPS games? You see an enemy, you kill them before they kill you. If your aim is off and you take a few hits, the healer will heal you. In ANY game, the healer is there as insurance, a way to keep you in the game and widen margin for error or make said errors possibly less punishing. I feel like the arguments for healers being underpowered or "bad" in this game come less from the nature of the class ITSELF, and more from the fact that other classes have options that widen that aforementioned margin of error already. Mitigation on tanks, for instance, a necessity for the class to survive certain pulls without the healer spending all of it's resources keeping them alive the entire time, which gets risky as not all healers heal the same amount at the same levels, so there needs to be leeway for the content to be clearable with any class. Even something like DPS having healing options, While I can understand the feeling of that invalidating healers, personally as a healer main I welcome the help! Nothing makes me smile more than the team eating a raidwide and as I start patching people up, seeing a vercure or two thrown my way. About the only argument I can KINDA get behind is Esuna being underutilized but I for one don't like even the thought of cycling through every single teammate and sitting through a GCD cast spell to prevent them from taking too much damage/dying outright if it's a Doom marker or something. Something like this being the 1% of the 1% of the 1%, isn't a fair representation of most content, and while sure, at the top level content most players know the mechanics well enough to dodge or avoid major damage so the Healer has less focus on healing, sure. But that argument is "Healer is less useful in top level content", not "Healer is bad and needs an outright redesign". I agree with the other comments that say this is more a testament to questionable design of high tier raids, which I CANNOT comment on as I've done only a single Savage and that's about it, so I have no right to expand on that thought. TLDR: Healers are generally fine, this is not indicative of most content. A healer not needing to heal means the healer has good teammates more often than not. Asking for a more interesting DPS rotation is fair, but I wouldn't take it too much further than that, personally. A lot of this feels like an overreaction to people cheesing things in a way that was neither intended nor expected.
@zankies8735 Жыл бұрын
I think this is a really good overview of healers. They are necessary for a good chunk of the players, and many might even use the TOP clear in ways that are a bit off. Will say that healing has become quite stale on healers. Aside from the main 3 types of healing (regens, shields and pure heals), it gets more boring the better you do get at healer. Simple DPS rotation would be nice, but also diversify the healing that each healer has and their buffing/debugging potential 👍
@ProtoHelio1 Жыл бұрын
@@zankies8735 There's some validity to this! Now, mind, I've only played Astro and Sage, and they do feel VERY different from one another. I've been No-lifeing this game like crazy and I can't say I've found healer to be stale? I suppose I can see why, core fundamentals and such, Healing is healing. I think Astro is probably a good example of being incredibly unique and interesting, and while I enjoy Sage more I DO hear that it and Scholar kinda step on each others toes a little bit, but once more I cannot give a fair honest stance on that as I haven't played Scholar (Planning on it when 6.4 drops for the Egiglams though). Maybe It's just the fact I haven't leveled all my healers to 90 yet and taken on many high tier content, But I wanna have a bit more faith than that ;w;

The point is, even if all other party members play flawlessly, there's even less of a reason for the need to heal as a healer. Damn near every fight should have bosses and adds put out unavoidable damage that actually requires healer to heal it too. Thats the issue, most fights dont unless EX/savage really. So most content the healer feels like a lesser dps tacked on. Other MMOs with trinity system, the healer is healing constantly cuz tank and others are taking damage one way or another. But FF14, has too much down time most fights, so all that time to just keep casting dmg spells instead.
@Grimnoire Жыл бұрын
@@HyouVizerwhy. The problem with adding unavoidable damage is you are then punishing players for simply playing the game. The way games usually work is you do the mechanics correctly and then you get rewarded with less damage. Damaging everyone anyway would require rebalancing the fight to be less punishing as the overall damage to players would increase it would need to balance out so mechanics would punish less meanwhile the fight would have more unavoidable damage. And so players who want to min max would have one option, to have one single healer who's sole purpose is to pour healing to counteract the damage everyone is taking for no good reason. Why is that an issue? Well for one, since mechanics are now easier and damage is unavoidable doing the mechanics would become pointless and gameplay would become a alog with everyone standing in all of the aoes to do more dps and burn the boss down. Pro: you now need a healer to win the fight Con: the fight is now boring. How do literally zero of you get this...?

Im not sure if saying the class is doomed when a very small percent of players being able to do it without healers, would agree that they could make it less or a bore to play at times but that is when almost every single person is knowing what they are doing I suppose relying of mistakes to happen to make it fun for most savage raiders wouldn't be the best mindset for the class, that i would be more concerned about. It's not good design when mistakes are the only thing that makes the healer valuable in a fight to correct. This is not how healers should be designed. It needs mechanics that force healers to heal, a lot or requires them to cleanse a lot more often than they need to right now. The toolkit of a healer is so useless in most content that it's rare anyone using a big part of it at all. It is mostly just off GCDs and damage skills that's being used. This is not good healer design and it should be changed. I say that as healer main who is bored by just pressing glare for 80% of the content. I want to heal not dps most of the time, and I end up as a weak dps who occasionally corrects mistakes.
@Nempo13 Жыл бұрын
@@raph5402 Healers exist to correct mistakes. If you design a game where if you play perfectly but your healer screws up their heal rotation, yes that is a thing in some games, everyone dies....then you designed a bad game. If you play perfectly, you should be able to get by without healers, or with supplemental healing only. DPS checks and Heal checks are both BAD DESIGN. Players should be able to play the long game and essentially slow grind a boss. The game has several DPS checks in the MSQ, class quests, and various trials/boss fights. Most aren't that bad, some need to be adjusted. There are some heal checks as well, but they all exist in content in STB and prior because healers had less heals and more attacks back then. These days they are trivial because every healer has so many healing options. The real problem is they removed healer uniqueness and healer DPS. Scholars used to have 5 DoTs, and the faerie healed for more while also doing OTHER things. Selene used to have an AOE esuna, the only one in the game, and attack speed buffs while Eos was capable of shielding and aoe healing without being told. Scholar was the OG damage healer and you did spend more of your time DPSing than healing. Whm had more dps skills than it does now as well. Hell the blood lily is nothing more than bringing back an old aoe damage skill under a new name/spell effect and new conditions to cast. Whm was able to do both a lot of healing or a lot of damage...cleric stance timing with cooldowns needing juggled of course. Astro had better card design that gave far more potent buffs. Also was more regeneration based than it is now. Astro used to be able to stack 3 regens on 1 target and 2 on the whole group over and over again. It was legit where most of their healing came from. Now Whm does this and Astro has 1 regen until you get 60+ dungeons. With half the roulette content being level 50...Astro feels strange. (Sage is likewise miserable at low levels) Bard used to have a heal, had songs that gave substantial buffs (not these pathetic 1-3% increases), and even used the healer LB. Bard has been changed so many times though, every major expansion the community winces at what is going to happen next (monks feel this same pain). I am not saying make Bards into supplemental healers once again. Just pointing out they used to be a viable one surprisingly. We need healers to be unique, not so homogenized that playing them feels almost the same. Only Sage is unique now, and that uniqueness is only marginal.
@raph5402 Жыл бұрын
@@Nempo13 If we can clear fights without healers, they can be as unique as they want, they are still useless if no mistakes are made. Healer checks aren't the mechanics I'm speaking about when I say more heals. It just needs to be more to heal than any dps or tank can do. Timed cleansing should be a thing. Non avoidable debuffs that need cleansing. I agree that healers should be more unique. But if they aren't challenged they can have the wildest toolkit, there would be no point for a perfect playing group to take a healer or two. If the healing required is so low that a tank or dps can heal through the phase.
@WillWednesday Жыл бұрын
@@raph5402 You do realize these mechs that force healers to heal exist right? Like if you wanna clear a fight by forcing your own death and having a dps class rez you all one by one, then be my guest, healers are valuable and if you think you can prog end game content without them be my guest
@cloudkelsey Жыл бұрын
I don't think healers need a complete redesign, thats trying to address the problem when the problem is really the raid design or a couple odd abilities like Cover which occasionally allows the odd cheese of a mechanic. What needs to be addressed is how Ultimate is spilling over onto Savage content. I could care less that the 1% of the 1% of the 1% managed to pull off something that probably shouldn't happen normally, that doesn't effect the rest of the game. Trying to address the class would be like punishing the first person that climbed mount everest by saying "well now do it without shoes". It doesn't effect the rest of the content so lets not worry about it, healing by and large will still be required by 99.9999___% of groups. What does effect the rest of the game is the scaling up continuously of mechanical difficulty of the raids where Savage is no longer being labeled correctly. There are easier Ultimates these days than some of the newer Tier 4, 8, and 12 content. Largely this is a problem where the fights are turning into giant spreadsheet battles especially with fully randomized mechanics.
@matthewwysong644 Жыл бұрын
Frankly, I don't think things being clearable by weird comps is bad. What I do think is screwed is how heavily the 14 team leaned into healer's healing toolkit without giving them proper reasons to use it in a solid 60% of content, and cheesing your way through another 30%. Until you need to remove two debuffs within some 15 seconds of each other, you can just bring a bard, a red mage, and two of the tanks with solid healing capability. Either their solution is signifigantly increase raidwide damage and random damage on non-targetted party members, or they give healers a proper DPS rotation.

FFXIV's encounter design is what needs a complete re-design. Unfortunately I don't see that happening without some massive changes on the backend. Bosses can't auto-attack while casting in XIV, and this is massively hindering the damage output on tanks. Healers don't need to dedicate very much, if any, healing to auto attacks with current tank design. Meanwhile raidwides completely stop bosses from auto-attacking while they are being cast, and don't come frequently enough to exhaust the healing resources of two healers. Nor can raidwides happen that often with how spiky they are in damage, and they have to be that spiky because of all the shields and raidwide mitigation we have. The TL;DR is that the players are way too strong for the current encounter design and that square probably can't change encounter design to match our power level. Or if they can, it will completely change XIV's combat.

Healer design isn't the problem. The fight requires plenty of healing. The problem is tanks and DPS having party mitigation and healing tools that those classes simply shouldn't in a holy Trinity mmo with clear distinct roles. Content started to be clearable without healers starting in 3.0 when tanks began getting healing and party mitigation. Every expansion since has made those tools stronger on non healing classes, on tanks especially.
@aquamiragetv Жыл бұрын
This would be fixed completely by fixing tanks and removing their party mitigation/heals and making them reposition bosses and manage enmity again. Moving tank responsibility in fight away from personal mitigation, boss positioning, and enmity management to party mitigation/healing caused this to occur.
@Kitti_EPlays Жыл бұрын
No because frankly 99% of the player base cannot even do this strat as this needs 10000% coordination with each player which an average solo player cannot do in party finder. At the end of the day, healers will ALWAYS be needed as there will ALWAYS be needing a heal. Not all tanks use their mits, not all DPS dodge mechanics or slide cast correctly (since we’re talking about it, not all RDM and SMN rez in pt finder or DR instances) Not all healers heal and mitigate properly. Instead of just being happy for a group of people WHO did an unorthodox approach in clearing content, we create pity parties for healers? Make it make sense? because clearly the team needed a shitload of healing but they just mapped it out and executed it perfectly. Should anyone make a mistake in any point in that raid it will be unclear-able that’s why HEALERS WILL ALWAYS BE INDISPENSABLE.

S-E has always tried to make PVP a thing even at the first and second fan fests they pushed it HARD especially the second one and even at the fan fests it has flopped hard. They are even shoveling tons of items into it such as adventurer plates, glamour etc and still people largely avoid it. It will never be a thing, glad they keep trying for the less than 1% out there that like in the Final Fantasy community. However they spend too much energy on it compared to other things that need to be improved or added to. For instance there's a lot of high end endgame out there but not enough for the casual and semi-casual/semi-harcore playerbase and lets be real thats a giant amount of player base and subscription revenue that they need to feed and keep which benefits everyone. I hate pvp with a passion in all games, I think its dumb content designed as taking the easy way out by designing just a handful of maps and walking away so that they don't have to develop much else especially AI bosses and abilities. The only pvp in FF14 that has been any level of engaging was Seal Rock back in Heavensward because it took teamwork and getting into the other two teams heads and both of those are something that are very much anti pvp community as largely people just want to go running out of the gate like a viking and smash stuff until they die. Won't be a thing never will be a thing, kind of a waste of effort, energy, and manpower except for the first 5-6 weeks where people get fired up and then its a non-event.
