@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence 10 күн бұрын
Hi James. First I would make sure that no other speaker is on except one of the subwoofers (718S), then I would not try to connect to the subwoofer via the Bluetooth in the Settings in IOS since the subs connect via the app using BLE (Bluetooth low energy). So, the 718s will not appear as an offering when you scan for it as you would scan for your air pods or any other Bluetooth device. Being that it is BLE, you can only connect to the sub if you use the app. Secondly, you will need to add speaker and the single powered up speaker SHOULD come up as an offering. Once you tap it to connect, it will just sit there and do nothing. That is because after tapping the speaker in the app, you have to go over to the sub and select "Yes" on the screen to accept the pair. This is a very common issue that is very scary to many users because they think the speaker may be defective. It is not. If you need more support I can walk you through it. After the speaker is connected, be sure to update the firmware right away. The app and connectivity are frustrating for SEVERAL users. Powering the speaker off for 1 minute and powering back on with all other speakers off resolves issues and using a different iPad or android device can also help. Let me know if you need more help. This sub will work just fine, we may need to connect if it seems impossible to connect. Good luck!

@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence Ай бұрын
@@leifpearson5205 thanks so much Leif! Live performance with automated light shows, professionally, rely on a click/cue paradigm to make sure musicians sync with the lights. IEMs should have ambient sound as a feature. Backing tracks are not needed for timed lighting. Only (MIDI in our case or system exclusive in other cases) is needed with a clock source to automate lights. AI would likely make the process easier by the way. In this video I show how I use the respective apps to make the light show work. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIaQe6B5eNCEorcfeature=shared Most bands use the sound-trigger paradigm to avoid all the work, but that is not a light show, it is more like dj situations (still exciting). For us, Backing tracks feed to photon very easily by inter-app within the iPad. MIDI track output is selected to Photon ( it’s just that easy!). Photon sends WiFi DMX to a router (no need for internet), which sends via Ethernet to a DMX node which transmits wirelessly to Donner Wireless receivers (one per lighting cluster and the rest of the lights are wired and dependent on the receiver) which results in lightning that is timed. Apps, node, Donners are still about $500 in total. The nice thing is that light shows can be changed or updated fairly easily. I hope this makes sense! The signal flow of the lights can easily be a little bit delayed since light travels much faster than sound, so they hit very close to the same time.

Thankfully, I have the dbx driverack PA2 to make them sound better than they should. Regarding EV, I have found a wild range in quality between their speakers. You have the ELX, EKX and ETX which vary quite a bit. The difference between 12 and 15 inch speakers usually tend toward a more favorable sound with 12”. To get low end from a top speaker, the displacement of the woofer has more to do with it than the size. Displacement is the distance the speaker pumps back and forth.

I have a question please. I’m a mobile DJ looking at purchasing one of these to further tailor/enhance/limit front of house sound. The remote app also appeals to me. My system is 2x EV EKX-12P active tops and 2x EV EKX-18SP active subwoofers. The DSP control on these speakers have the option to system-match the crossover i.e. the high pass for the tops can be set to EKX-18SP (or other EV models) and the low pass for the subs can be set to EKX-12P (or other EV models). Would I be able to route the signal flow/configure the settings in the DriveRack so the above is maintained? I don’t want the DriveRack crossover controls to supersede the speakers’ system-matched settings. N.B. The outputs on EKX subwoofers are hardwired as a thru output (no DSP out) i.e. they’re always sending a full range signal (see this video explanation - EV ELX200, EKX & ETX Crossovers | How they work and why they are not good options for column arrays - KZbin). Any help appreciated.
@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence 2 ай бұрын
Great question! The Driverack PA2 can be configured to bypass the crossover. Crossover is only one aspect of speaker balance. You have level and eq to deal with (just as important, if not more important). In that case, you can use the EQ features and level controls with the limiters inside the unit (which are excellent in my opinion). The outputs of the Driverack are High-R/L, Mid-R/L and Low R/L. This is to support mono-amped, biamped or triamp paradigms. In your case, I would set the DriveRack PA2 to a biamp paradigm which uses the High and Low outputs. Connect subs separately to R/L low and Tops separately to High R/L on the back of the DriverackPA2. Don’t go directly from mixer to speakers (and don’t daisy chain them with the full range pass through on the speakers) Set lows to run mono (not stereo) using the Driverack interface, and tops to run stereo. Get a decent RTA Mic to use at each venue and use the Wizard to set Level and EQ for that particular setting. Be sure your speakers are placed exactly as you plan to leave them for the show. Then use the level assist and eq assist. Be sure to get a windscreen for the RTA mic and try to set up before the environment gets too noisy. The wizard will literally remotely walk you through with graphics of where to place the RTA mic. Again, this wizard does not set your crossover. That is up to you to do on your speakers (if you bypass the crossover block). The Driverack will tell you to turn up or down each set of speakers until they are perfectly balanced. Even if you disagree with the result, I would not fiddle with the eq or levels after setting them. I have done that, and discovered the DriveRack to have been correct over my ears (Like my ear causing me to think there is too little base or too little treble or that the subs are too quiet). Whenever I mess with it, it sounds amateur (super loud bass, or piercing razor sharp highs, which is amateur to say the least). Also, I use the snake AUX sends to route the DriveRack to the front of the stage and then just 4 XLR’s, 2 going to each side. This maintains the bass mono and top stereo. Bass hits hard and the separation of the tops via stereo sounds rich. Whenever I stick with the DriveRack wizard results I frequently get feedback from the venue “We have not heard a mix that good ever before!” If the hirer wants to run things quieter, the DriveRackPA2 makes keeps the mix rich and fat, and if they want it pumped up, you will notice that the speakers stay balanced throughout the range of your changing output intensity.

Hi John, I’ve got another question if you don’t mind please (sorry I’m not very technical)… With you saying not to daisy chain the speakers with the full range pass through output, how will the system-matched crossover be maintained between the tops and the subs if they’re not linked together? My current signal flow (left + right channels) is *mixer output* to *sub input* then *sub output* to *top input*
@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence 2 ай бұрын
@@GazMakaveli The DSP in your speakers are per speaker and do not communicate with other speakers via daisy chain. Same goes with the subs. The crossover you set does not get any crossover information via daisy chain. It is only set per speaker. That is why I would use the dbx DriveRack PA2 for everything. Here is why. A common mistake with people using crossover is that they (for example) will set the crossover on the sub to 80Hz. Logically, they would set the tops to a high pass crossover of 80Hz. Bad idea. The crossover of the tops should be 85 to 90 Hz because the overlap of the fall off of the crossover point creates a spike (and feedback potentially) from 70Hz to 90Hz when summing both speakers at their crossover slopes. So, to create a smooth overlap between crossover points there needs to be a gap in the crossover settings. EV speaker-presets in your tops and subs will do that for you. Per speaker, nevertheless, and not via daisy chain. What the DSP inside each speaker is missing is 1) Eq per venue 2) Sound Level matching per speaker per venue 3) Sub delay. Your crossover settings remain set without daisy chaining, so there is no need to daisy chain, but the DriveRack will help you adjust the loudness of your tops and subs to fit the venue. The DriveRack has sub delay included (I set it at like 3.5ms) becaue the subs are on the ground and slightly closer to the audience, but this applies more to bigger systems. So, I would say use the crossover per speaker and use the eq/level settings from the DriveRack. You don't need sub delay, but it can help if you detect dead spots. Feel free to keep up the questions! Thanks for asking!

@@CaliforniaCreedence Thank you John. A DBX distributor here in the UK has said whilst you can't technically bypass the crossover in the PA2, you can open up each band to receive the full frequency band and allow the crossover to take effect in the speakers DSP. i.e. select a band -> move high pass to 20KHz and move low pass to 20KHz -> repeat for the other bands. Is this correct/sound advice?

Hi Wayne. The MIDI file is dropped into Multitracker with the MIDI output to Channel 1 interapp to Photon2 (a DMX app for iPad that uses MIDI note and CC messages for DMX). Photon2 then transmits MIDI via WiFi from my iPad to my router where a DMX node is attached via ethernet cable (I have both a DMXking and Chauvet AN2, but I am currently only using the AN2 node). The node sends DMX data from the 3pin output to a Wireless DMX system made by Donner. I have one receiver per side of the stage and the lights on either side of the stage are connected with cables (you really only need 2 or 3 wireless receivers to get the signal to the light clusters). So, my DMX flow is Multitracker MIDI Track>Photon2>WiFi Router via iPad WiFi>Chauvet AN2 DMX Node via ethernet from router>Donner Transmitter>Donner Receiver>Light Cluster. Just need to work out a DMX code to link to seperate song to lightshow im recording on DMX light recorder, if that makes sense

great video, I'm using multitrack for 4 months, can you use this for midi programming to lights, light are done via show buddy active? ive got tracks on logic, and lighting dmx done, transferred tracks onto multitrack, but I'm using a dmx light recorder , so hoping these can be married together and use multitrack as main controller. play track them it'll also pick up the lighting on recorder,,,cheers

Is that an iPad? do you use an app for the live mixing? if so, which app/software is it? Couldn't catch it. Thanks!

The mixer UI 24R uses no app. It is HTML meaning that when you type in the mixer’s IP address it brings up the web interface which is the mixer. That is why I bought the UI24R because it doesn’t use an app. For the backing tracks it is called Multitracker.

Hi Val, although some of the AirTurn products are not that good, this one seems to be one of the better ones. a.co/d/drgTjra but it only has 2 functions for foot control, actually, but if you buy a WIDImaster from CME and get something like a Behringer FC1010, you would have more options, but it is a bit pricey.

The backing track app is Multitracker and only works on iPad and not a Mac. The mixer control is not an app, it is html interface accessed by the ip address of the mixer.

Hey John, greetings from Perth, Western Australia. I've been working with ST3 for a while and have just downloaded Multitracker. As Riffman42 has suggested, there are a lot more possibilities running both apps. I plan to dot-point your video into a word file for future reference. All good & thank you...

Hey Coby! Thanks so much for the encouragement! This fall, Multitracker is to be coming out with a major overhaul. The developer had some significant life incidents that required his attention and he reported to me that he is back to work on MT. We will see what comes up. Until then, ST3 and MT are a good match! I own both. Again, thanks!

Hi..here is one of your sus. I have look to all your videos...and this is one of the sets I am really into. But I have some questions: 1. You connect IPAD for multitrack via USB and using multitracker software you sent AUDIO TRACKS. BUT...what about MIDI tracks. Can you sent to he UI24r CC messages from Multitracker?? I would like to automate snapshots call via multitracker....but ...I think is not possible this way. 2. Can you use the mixer APP of the UI24r at the same time. I mean can you connect via wifi (or with ethernet) at the same time to the UI24r and switch on the same IPAD between multitracker and the Native app of UI24r?? 3. I have seen a third party app called MIXING STATION that could be the solution to automate control of the UI24r via MULTITRACKER (midi). Have you heard about?? THANKS!!!
@CaliforniaCreedence

Hi Abby, thanks for the question. Very good questions. First, the UI24R doesn’t receive MIDI data. I have had the same thought about launching snapshots like you but you can’t do that. I checked out MIXING STATION but never bought it because it doesn’t look like it works. I will be testing it over the next few weeks to see if it is workable. It may be a waste of money. I have a video where I demo running the UI24R and Multitracker, and another program called MIDISTUDIO from the same iPad during an actual show. It is this link here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqeukKSOrL2nl6Mfeature=shared That is how I handle workflow. I don’t use MIDISTUDIO any more because I found a more sophisticated app called Surface Builder. Thanks for the questions!

Hi, do you perhaps have a tuturial video, on how to playback a midi file/track from Multitracker? And can a person add live backing vocals to the midi etc
@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence 3 ай бұрын
Hi Ludwig. If you want to play a MIDI file (remember a MIDI file does not make any sound, but triggers a sound source like an AUv3 Synth), and to add backing vocals you should check out karaoke-version.com and they have backing vocal files. You have to drop the files into the Multitracker folder using Files app. Then open Multitracker and go into Song Configuration. There you can add files to your song. The best way to do backing tracks is to get them from karaoke-version.com, download them into the MT folder and assign them to a song in song configuration mode. Audio files are better than MIDI for playback in my opinion.

I’ve been running Stagetraxx and Mixstation in the foreground with Photon in the background. I find that Photon stops responding and needs to be reset, 4-5 times a gig. Have you experienced this?

Just curious if you have tried out the updated MT that is supposed to have fixed the BT glitch? We have continued to use the wired option to drive external midi devices but am eager to switch back to BT. When it worked, it was great. Thanks
@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence 4 ай бұрын
It has been fixed. An individual artist by the name of Robert Bartko who depends on absolute reliability with the BT connection was the one who initiated the pursuit of a solution, and urged the developer to solve it. It has been completely solved! There is a new version of MT coming out this Fall. I will be making a video talking about this, hopefully soon.

@@CaliforniaCreedence I recently decided to expand beyond two channels out of MT (1/8 stereo cable). I have a lighting out to the usb B 2.0). MT displays all possible channels. I routed things to my great joy. During playback, on occasion, the audio quits. MT appears to continue to output but no sound reaches the mixer. I have a back-up mixer. Same problem. MT seems to still “think” It has a good connection to the mixer. I think you were routing through a Behringer. Have you heard about this before? As always, thank you.

@@CaliforniaCreedence thanks. I had the volumes set and playback was proceeding normally. Then, without changing anything, the output goes to zero. It’s really strange. And, as best I can tell, without any provocation on my part.

I want to be able to midi control the dimmer fader by expression pedal. Do you know if it’s possible to midi map this/CC message on the app? The midi mapping part is an in app purchase so can’t find this out for myself but want to know if it’s possible before purchasing.
@CaliforniaCreedence
@CaliforniaCreedence 4 ай бұрын
Yes. The main thing that you want to be sure of is that you have a MIDI connection to your iPad (best if it is either Network or BLE). If your pedal communicates midi via 5 pin DIN, you are in luck. Just grab a WIDImaster from CME and it can pair via BT to your iPad and Photon will pick it up with no problem. If it only has a USB B or C input/output to your pedal then you will need to directly connect it to the iPad. If the pedal has integrated BLE, all the better. The main question is “how does your pedal communicate MIDI to the iPad regardless of any particular app?” This is the biggest matter. Photon will see MIDI direct to your iPad (mostly, you don’t even need midimttr). The video after this one, where I construct a light show live is completely via a BLE connection from a 5pin DIN on my MPK261. Photon accepts it all!. Be sure, to create the fixture, put a control on the Live Panel, then you can assign the MIDI CC# by just moving the pedal.

@@CaliforniaCreedence thanks so much for your response. Sorry I should have said that I already have an expression pedal connected to my Morningstar which has a Widi Jack which connects to my iPad and other things. I could see photon could see CC messages but wasn’t sure if an expression pedal would work in this way. Thanks again.
