dbx Driverack PA2 how I use it with our cover band portable easy setup, crossover

Hola! Solo una advertencia, uno de los errores habituales que solemos cometer al dividir las vías es que aplicamos los filtros dos veces. Por ejemplo, la mayoría de cajas autoamplificadas llevan su filtro interno incorporado e incluso a veces llevan un selector visible para elegir la frecuencia de corte. Sin embargo, por desconocimiento, solemos filtrar estas cajas nuevamente desde el crossover o procesador. Al hacer el doble filtraje, estamos encadenando dos filtros en serie, por lo que estamos aumentando la pendiente del filtro y estamos atenuando la frecuencia de corte en mayor medida. En el mejor de los casos, la zona de cruce puede quedar plana o realzarse. En el peor de los casos, puede ser que la combinación resultante con el filtro de la otra vía cause cancelación en la zona de cruce. Debes colocar el crossover de la via LOW en el PA2 en modo OUT y hacer el filtrado directamente desde el crossover del subwoofer. Esto es asi debido a que el crossover del subwoofer no se puede desactivar. Saludos!

I'm confused as to what my RCF Evox 8 are when I run the wizard. Are they passive or 2way? would you know? They are array speakers. Bottom and the high and mids on a pole. Also, where is the xlr connected to on the dbx? High, Mid or Low? Thanks if you can help.

@@djomarsuperstar Hi Omar, thanks for the question. I looked at your speakers and, firstly, that is a very nice system! This system will not with the dbx driverack PA2 in a traditional sense because the crossover between the sub and the tops is in the RCF sub housing. The connector to the tops is speakon because the tops are passive and amplified by the sub. So it is an active/passive hybrid. I believe that the driverack can still be of use, nevertheless. Plug your mixer R/L into the driverack input R/L and only use the High Output. On the wizard, the speaker system would be passive and not 2 way. For Subs, indicate none. Once the setup wizard is done, On the crossover in the dbx give the High (you should only see the high output in this case and no low or mid) full range (I think it lets you do that). This transmits full range to your rcf speakers without using the crossover. Again, the crossover is in the rcf itself. The driverack will only act as your eq and limiter. Then run the eq wizard with your RTA mic connected (you won’t need the level wizard) to set the eq for the environment or venue. The dbx will only be used for auto eq and that is it. @@djomarsuperstar yes. It looks like I was absolutely correct. Page 50 of the manual explains your application. Only use the High output R/L full range. The only thing I would do is to set the lower left most point (HP filter) on the crossover to 40 Hz Butterworth 48. Use Auto EQ per venue and you will sound great!

Very clear, thank you! I'm about to buy one of these. One question: after you set up for the room, do you find that you need to tweak as the room fills with people? Is that a fairly predictable change that you can guesstimate, or would you really like to repeat the wizard if you could? I'm talking a cover band without a dedicated sound man, of course.

@@paulmason828 I would pay attention to the crossover and make sure there is no overlap or summation at the crossover point. Measure the room or area with nothing blocking speaker (people walking by etc.). The level and eq settings are very durable across crowd numbers since it measures speaker behavior in the environment. I would set it and forget it.

what router do you use, I use an old belinks but cant get more than 20ft the signal cut off... lost connection and cant have the freedom to adjust and set up. great video..

@@CaliforniaCreedence yeah it’s weird but it works. Particularly for metal. 2.5k specifically, and honestly pretty narrow band, it’s the direct pain baby crying region for most people. If you need insane spl without complaints, notch 2.5 and see what happens, you can go so loud. Everything above 10k is just air in venue anyways

@@CaliforniaCreedence in the dance scene it’s common to fly tweeter pods around the club, in the past they even gave DJs control over a knob that would swirl treble around different pods to create a unique experience. The air just filled with 15k+ from every direction. Sounds miserable but it’s not so bad. Very clubby haha

Just a follow up. Your advice worked really well! I wanted to say, "thank you!" That 2.5k was the culprit for a few things. I have done sound for a few other bands and had the time to spend working with what you recommended and the results were excellent!
