Hi George!!! i don't if i like so many music genres in rock..... and unfortunately there seems to be way to many and some are kind of "look at the new one we named......" and that's is rediculous (imo). I really like some of the ones youn showed, hard rock, thrash, heavy metal, powermetal, prog metal just to name a few. cheers and be well

I have been on a deep dive with NWOBHM lately trying to find as many of the bands that I missed. Avenger, Quartz, Rock Goddess… there is just so much stuff. I have really been enjoying the later material from these bands as well. You have single handedly gotten me into 70s rock. If I were still making videos I could do a top 10 70s band that George got me into!

Interesting. I have upgraded numerous Albums because of re-issues. Because Bonus Tracks, more Discs etc. If it's the same content I don't really see a reason for it. Though "Live Evil" teaches us that we should at least consider Remixes, I guess. I also recall a couple I've sorted out because I didn't care much for them. However, I can only recall one such example that I purchased again later on. Quite recently, actually. That's Angel Witch's Debut. I had a Extended Thingy (1 Disc) years ago. Bought because of the Title Track which I really liked. I didn't warm up to the rest, though. Despite listening to it quite a bit. A couple of Months ago I got a 2 Disc Set (for the 30th Anniversary it says). I've seen it a couple of times in the store before actually grabbing it. I bought quite a bit around that time and it was just lying there for a while. End of last year I've finally gotten around to put it on. And it finally clicked. I'm not sure I'm ready to go deeper with the Band, but I'm not giving away this one again. And now to the Video. Thanks for you efforts, George. PS: BTW, I'm not outright saying that it's the only Album for which it ever happened. There might've been a few others I just don't recall. If one should come to mind I'll let you know.

An interesting video, George-enjoyable as always. With apologies in advance if this comment is too long!!! I often think about classification when watching experts like Martin Popoff. While his vast knowledge is undeniable, his approach relies more on intuition and experience than on formal definitions. This leads to the recurring "some would argue" problem, where subjective opinions clash without a clear framework for resolution. My view is that rock and metal subgenre categorization suffers from a lack of clear, consistent definitions, making meaningful discussion and analysis difficult. Unlike technical fields that rely on precise ontologies, music genres often depend on subjective interpretations and evolving trends, leading to constant disclaimers and ambiguity. While the inherent subjectivity of art must be acknowledged-and the "family resemblance" problem means bands often exhibit overlapping characteristics-a more formalized approach could improve clarity. By identifying key musical features (tempo, instrumentation, lyrical themes, etc.), weighting their importance, and establishing clear thresholds, a robust ontology could emerge. This would enable more objective genre classifications, better handling of hybrid styles, and a reduction in reliance on subjective opinions, ultimately making heavy metal subgenre discussions clearer and more useful. In short, while perfect categorization might be impossible, an ontology-driven approach could significantly improve the clarity and usefulness of genre discussions. It’s a project ripe for a research dissertation-perhaps in musicology or information science-combining computational methods with music theory and cultural analysis.

Cool Steve there is endless genres to explore!
@excelsiormoviereviews6 күн бұрын
@ that’s true and that’s exactly why I don’t seek out a lot of newer Metal and if it doesn’t have clean vocals I lose interest and it ruins the musicality for me. And I’m somebody who barely pays attention to the vocals the first 2 or 3 times I listen to new music, so if the vocals are too jarring it ruins everything for me.

Hi George I have been purging a lot of progressive rock that I had way back in the 70s on vinyl and never replaced on cd. Yes,early Genesis,ELP,King Crimson etc. So feel lucky at the moment with remasters,box sets etc coming out from the above bands. Agree you get extra tracks on certain cds you rediscover etc. Of course now would never ever consider getting rid of any of my collection of black metal power metal and melodic death metal and doom etc ❤❤💯💯💯🤘🤘🤘
@georgegsroomofrock986810 күн бұрын

Some of these are absolute killers! Cross the Styx is a Dutch classic. That Bolt Thrower debut is a good example of "love it or hate it", haha. Never purged an album that I got back later.

@andjusticeforearl474210 күн бұрын
Most of my albums were “purged” for me. I’ve mentioned it before but I had almost 400 albums stolen. Realistically, probably atleast 1/3 of them I will probably never rebuy just because of changes in musical interests.
@georgegsroomofrock986810 күн бұрын
Makes sense but your purge was out of your control!

I totally understand man. Sometimes you feel differently about certain albums and they come back to haunt you and buy them again. Sold my entire CD and cassette collection back in 2013 to fund some of my retro PC gaming collection. For the time I got decent enough money but it's not much compared to now especially with the more rare stuff. Hindsight is always 20/20
