It was only a shader for me but with the Nano, I used the Hard bar 4.0 to line. It should have more snap than the carbon bar but both will work and none of them will be the best liner as more force is better like from a DK sidewinder or a Neuma Macro 4.2 20%.

Ty I need your help! I’m setting up the ergo grip but the threads don’t line up in a way that makes the machine and grip align. There is the screw to help lock it into place but won’t that damage the plastic on the machine? This lack of symmetry is enough for me to regret my buy. Super awesome machine but damn either poor design or user error.
@Braxtonhawkins2 жыл бұрын
I see that you use the screw to tighten the sniper grip. I guess my concern is the same as yours, that it’s metal into plastic. I’d like to see the tube vice be metal. Something about attaching this grip with the screw just feels like a crime.
@tyatx92582 жыл бұрын
Set the grip aligned straight. Tighten the set screw enough so that it stays put and doesn't spin. It will leave a mark but no, If you do not overtighten it, It will not ruin it. Don't overthink it. It doesn't take much to keep it from spinning. There is no lack of symmetry or misalignment. The set screw is designed ti keep the grip aligned. Use it.

How is the Scorpion vs a regular rotary when it comes to lining?
@tyatx92582 жыл бұрын

I used it today for the first time and if you are used to regular rotaries it lines very well. If you are into Kubins and that kind of hard hitting rotaries or coil machines it will slow you down. @tyatx92582 жыл бұрын
Neo carts are completely different. The saturation is faster and less aggressive on the skin. Wether or not you spend the $35 extra for the neo cart kit and $20 for a box of carts would be personal choice. I like them and they are definitely the real deal for color. Standards work very well too but magnetic give certainly is better. Either way the machine is top notch whichever way you go. You can also change back periodically too. I use it with standard carts for whipping dot shading but use the neocarts for color. It’s very versatile.

I don't understand why on the official website it's written direct drive, this is not a direct drive machine or maybe am I missing something?
@patsung88042 жыл бұрын
(NOT AN EXPERT) but this is my two cents regarding the mechanism of it; I think it's "direct" because there are no other things pushing the needle besides the motor and the cam, I think it was kind of like a swashplate mechanism inspired but the shape of the cams that push the needles are manipulated to copy the waveform on how the needle goes into the skin just like with the coil. it's such a genius piece of mechanism on how simple it is, no bells and whistles. Love simple machines like this. Excited to try one out myself
@tyatx9258 Жыл бұрын
Technically the bearing arm is directly driving the cam, pushing your cart plunger but that’s a matter of opinion. My personal belief is that cam is in every way a “no-give Slider mechanism”. Either way it’s a rotary without give. We are all correct, just depends on how you view it.

Hi there Tye, Thank you very much for your review. I have enjoyed your in-depth explanations through The Fireside Tattoo podcast. The detailed explanations by yourself and Carson have encouraged myself to buy a Neuma 4 from the US. My 1st machine I attempted to use for everything but changing the brass and aluminium bearing arm got to be a bit of a faff so I bought a 2nd. I now have a liner and shader. The 3.6mm 20% standard spring seems to work great for smaller needle configurations and heals super. The other day I tried the machine with a 14RL, whilst it worked to some extent it was not as consistent. In this video you recommend a 4.2mm 20%, alternative spring for larger grouping. Since the video was published Carson has released a steel machine. I am going to buy a 4.2mm. Would you recommend the aluminium or steel machine housing? (Machine NOT grip) Cheers Patrick
@tyatx92582 жыл бұрын
Steel housing for liners, you could use either but the extra weight makes lining with any grouping very easy.

Hey Ty, I have a question and a comment. When I was running this machine back to back with the Nano it felt like this hit identically, it could be confirmation bias or just a lack of being able to differentiate between the two, but thats how it felt to me. So my question is, if these do in fact have the same motor as the Nano, then why wouldn't I just buy a battery pack and hermetically seal it with barrier film or a machine back and just place that on the Nano? I didn't like the idea of having to the machine upside down at all as, even with higher end cartridges I occasionally have issues where the membranes allow fluid to go through and Im concerned that those fluids would run up the length of the plunger bar. Granted I clean my machine thoroughly after each use, but it just seems like an unnecessary pain that I wouldn't have to deal with. I don't have that issue with with adjusting a click grip. I also dislike the one handed adjustments as I often find myself fumbling with the controls and the business end of the machine coming too close to my hand for comfort.
@hacedms2 жыл бұрын
It's been 9 months since your comment. Do the machines still feel identical in terms of how they hit? Can you tell any difference if you run them both let's say at 12vol? Thanks for sharing.
@tyatx9258 Жыл бұрын
I agree JJR. After long term use, I found the upside down to be annoying and the auto adjusting depth work drive motor to be slow. The fact that all cartridge needles aren’t identical in length from needle tip to back of plunger makes that type of adjuster cumbersome. Their idea was to make something completely integrated wireless but the extra industry firsts like the needle depth adjuster are just plain unnecessary. I also agree that they never should have made any command by turning machine upside down. I believe they know that now but it’s too late. 100% you can do it all with a nano and battery. With the angled rca, the weight and placement of the battery may be odd but outside of that. Yes, if you get the carbon fiber bar, you can have the same hit at a fraction of the cost.
@tyatx9258 Жыл бұрын

Even though my unlimited is the 4.0 version I'm just finding it is really lacking in the lining department. Putting in very thin lines. Or having to slow way down. Like everyone says this machine is a lining beast. I have the shift grip and a standard grip. The shift grip is one of the most comfortable machines I've used. I have played with the 2 different bearings and all of the cams for the 3.6mm and 4.2mm. My preference seems to be the 3.6 with the 28% cam. I like shading with the aluminum bearing and the 33% cam. I tend to be a machine collector so I'll often use whatever I'm feeling that day. I'd never part with the 3.5 and 4.0 unlimited machines. They're just reliable and easy to use for anything.

A lot of these features just seem unnecessary and clumsy. Do we really need all those sensors and motors? Does a tattoo machine have to be that intuitive? Does this machine produce tattoos far above and beyond anything we have ever seen? It’s a fun idea, but seems to be more of a novelty than a daily driver. Power supply and cord is really not that big of a hassle to begin with, for me at least. Or when I want to use a battery, I use a battery. I think it’s cool Inkjekta is dabbling in this technology. Who knows, one day the machine will be connected to our brains and we can turn on and off functions with our minds, but right now I just don’t see them winning over the market with this. It looks bulky and clumsy compared to other rotary options nowadays. My tattoos aren’t going to look better, or heal faster, or get done quicker by using this machine.
@tyatx92583 жыл бұрын
Agree, you will never win a market over with a 1,200 machine. Is it cool? yes. the saturation out of this thing is amazing and the extra weight is nice to tattoo with. I do love integrated batteries over toppers on pens but 100% you can do the same thing with a nano to the same quality! While it is tall, it is super light but yes, to all of the above. There are more compact pens and wireless machines available. I would be keen to an XI without the extra micro motor and all of the features. just a tiny ass wireless nano or better yet they should just make a pen already.
