After running a Nano for several years, I’ve now had my X1 for about a year now and I just absolutely love it. It’s punchy, gives great saturation without overworking the skin, has a nice voltage range-everything I want in a machine aside from obvious perks like a wire-free set up. I similarly would love to be able to adjust needle depth and toggle off without turning the machine upside down. I do disagree about the rca jack suggestion as I’d like to see the machine get lighter next generation (which probably requires better/smaller battery technology as that’s the bulk of the weight). Thanks for the video, it was nice getting confirmation from a great tattooer hearing you enjoy the X1 for the same reasons I do.

Right on Scotty! I"m happy to hear my views are justified by a long time user as well. Thanks for the great comments. I agree with that as far as adding weight would go too however I could also forgo the nano motor for an X1 compact edition to give it a huge weight reduction. stripping some features may also allow for the smaller battery to be the only battery. I greatly appreciate your views! Thank you, Cheers

@@tyatx9258 are you still using the x1 buddy? I wasnt crazy about the design first, but i changed my mind over time and ordered one to try out. I thought its at least not just a boring pen machine. After having it in my hand and working with it i have to admit that its a great wireless machine. I like the ergo and sniper grips a lot and the weight of the x1 with them is pretty nice. I also dont hate the needlehang adjustment anymore. it looks unnecessary but its pretty handy to work with it and the extra weight isnt really a downside. It feels more like a modern tattoo machine than a pen. And the fact that you can change the stroke without having to buy another machine is definitely a plus nowadays!

Sorry I missed this bro. Awesome to hear. I did get tired of the slow needle adjustment over a click grip and turning it upside down all the time I swap carts constantly and needed a fast depth adjuster. I’m currently using the scorpion x2 with neocarts for color. My shaders are always changing.

Great video ty, just re watched a bunch of episodes of you and Jake on fireside. I'd love to hear more videos of you explaining machine theory. Techniques and tips I found the stuff about the dot size left in the skin from different types of machines very interesting. I'm finding my sol nova unlimited difficult to get used to coming from the xion. Even though I used to use a thunder for everything. Even though my unlimited is the 4.0 version I'm just finding it is really lacking in the lining department. Putting in very thin lines. Or having to slow way down. I feel like I havent had as much of this issue on other direct drives before. Are you still using your neuma daily ? More than the scorpion? All ideas for video topics take it easy man looking forward to the next one !

Thank you! Swash plates don't make great liners IMO. thats why the unlimited is slow. I am currently back to Neuma as a liner and Scorpion X2 as a shader.

@@tyatx9258 I'm almost positive the unlimited is not a swash plate though it is a cam and a push rod only the hawk pen was a swash plate. Just like the sol nova original that was a normal direct drive

Hey Ty, I have a question and a comment. When I was running this machine back to back with the Nano it felt like this hit identically, it could be confirmation bias or just a lack of being able to differentiate between the two, but thats how it felt to me. So my question is, if these do in fact have the same motor as the Nano, then why wouldn't I just buy a battery pack and hermetically seal it with barrier film or a machine back and just place that on the Nano? I didn't like the idea of having to the machine upside down at all as, even with higher end cartridges I occasionally have issues where the membranes allow fluid to go through and Im concerned that those fluids would run up the length of the plunger bar. Granted I clean my machine thoroughly after each use, but it just seems like an unnecessary pain that I wouldn't have to deal with. I don't have that issue with with adjusting a click grip. I also dislike the one handed adjustments as I often find myself fumbling with the controls and the business end of the machine coming too close to my hand for comfort.
@hacedms
@hacedms 2 жыл бұрын
It's been 9 months since your comment. Do the machines still feel identical in terms of how they hit? Can you tell any difference if you run them both let's say at 12vol? Thanks for sharing.
@tyatx9258
@tyatx9258 Жыл бұрын
I agree JJR. After long term use, I found the upside down to be annoying and the auto adjusting depth work drive motor to be slow. The fact that all cartridge needles aren’t identical in length from needle tip to back of plunger makes that type of adjuster cumbersome. Their idea was to make something completely integrated wireless but the extra industry firsts like the needle depth adjuster are just plain unnecessary. I also agree that they never should have made any command by turning machine upside down. I believe they know that now but it’s too late. 100% you can do it all with a nano and battery. With the angled rca, the weight and placement of the battery may be odd but outside of that. Yes, if you get the carbon fiber bar, you can have the same hit at a fraction of the cost.

It was only a shader for me but with the Nano, I used the Hard bar 4.0 to line. It should have more snap than the carbon bar but both will work and none of them will be the best liner as more force is better like from a DK sidewinder or a Neuma Macro 4.2 20%.

Ty I need your help! I’m setting up the ergo grip but the threads don’t line up in a way that makes the machine and grip align. There is the screw to help lock it into place but won’t that damage the plastic on the machine? This lack of symmetry is enough for me to regret my buy. Super awesome machine but damn either poor design or user error.
@Braxtonhawkins
@Braxtonhawkins 2 жыл бұрын
I see that you use the screw to tighten the sniper grip. I guess my concern is the same as yours, that it’s metal into plastic. I’d like to see the tube vice be metal. Something about attaching this grip with the screw just feels like a crime.
@tyatx9258
@tyatx9258 2 жыл бұрын
Set the grip aligned straight. Tighten the set screw enough so that it stays put and doesn't spin. It will leave a mark but no, If you do not overtighten it, It will not ruin it. Don't overthink it. It doesn't take much to keep it from spinning. There is no lack of symmetry or misalignment. The set screw is designed ti keep the grip aligned. Use it.

It has more hit capabilities with the torsion bars and cam options than a fixed stroke Cheyenne. That would be a preference as to which you should invest in as I see all styles being a accomplished with both.

I see your points and agree completely. People can also do a great tattoo with a cheap coil machine. I don't believe any top company is after developing a good value machine. A subaru is just as reliable as a high end mercedes but also a fraction of the cost. Some will see the value in both. To each his own.

@tyatx9258
@tyatx9258 3 жыл бұрын
No, and it is very light. If you have ever tattooed with a standard rotary/coil, this is more upright so the weight is linear. I have seen videos where it looks gigantic. I thought the same when I saw them. If you put a battery on top of a Xion or a Cheyenne pen, the X1 is shorter. It is less than a half inch longer than a Neuma with a battery which is one of the shortest pens out there.

A lot of these features just seem unnecessary and clumsy. Do we really need all those sensors and motors? Does a tattoo machine have to be that intuitive? Does this machine produce tattoos far above and beyond anything we have ever seen? It’s a fun idea, but seems to be more of a novelty than a daily driver. Power supply and cord is really not that big of a hassle to begin with, for me at least. Or when I want to use a battery, I use a battery. I think it’s cool Inkjekta is dabbling in this technology. Who knows, one day the machine will be connected to our brains and we can turn on and off functions with our minds, but right now I just don’t see them winning over the market with this. It looks bulky and clumsy compared to other rotary options nowadays. My tattoos aren’t going to look better, or heal faster, or get done quicker by using this machine.
@tyatx9258
@tyatx9258 3 жыл бұрын
Agree, you will never win a market over with a 1,200 machine. Is it cool? yes. the saturation out of this thing is amazing and the extra weight is nice to tattoo with. I do love integrated batteries over toppers on pens but 100% you can do the same thing with a nano to the same quality! While it is tall, it is super light but yes, to all of the above. There are more compact pens and wireless machines available. I would be keen to an XI without the extra micro motor and all of the features. just a tiny ass wireless nano or better yet they should just make a pen already.

I think the guys created some prejudice with the X1! I've been tattooing with mine for 2 months and I'm in love, the machine is super light, very strong, perfect pigmentation, its differential from Inkjecta is precisely these things, they went out of the ordinary with great technology, to be able to increase and decrease the needle output is simply amazing, the voltage, everything is very practical with a short time! Want the common ? Stay with Cheye and FK.
