I was working for an Early Education Center for twenty years, the first ten as a teacher and the last ten as the Executive Director. In August, my assistants mother joined our Board, and then in September, I was put on Administrative Leave and then fired two weeks later. My assistant has been acting Executive Director since. The place is going downhill fast. Employees and families are outraged. I was fired for doing something I had been doing for the majority of my time as the Director. They were clearly reaching to find something to fire me on. Not sure what to do or where to go from here.

I'm so sorry to hear this. If you feel you were wrongfully terminated/an ED contract was violated, you might talk to an employment lawyer or HR person for input. There's also merit in just taking care of yourself right now, and focusing on healing from the hurt.

Great content and guidance. Are you able to share sample templates of the conflict of interests policy? Any suggestions on what protocol steps for conflicts where Development Director, who reports to CEO, is also spouse of Chairman of Board, for whom the CEO reports to? Any sample policies, of the 10 you note shared with us, would be most appreciated. Would you be willing to add the samples to your website? Thank you for your ministry and leadership in education.

We are a small community 55+ snowbird park that oppperate from 0ct until April each year. We come from all parts of the US and Canada, our group is all volunteers, We host dances, entertainment, Cards and games, and pick a couple of causes to support during our season. And because our board members change every 2 seasons. How and who do we open a bank account under, and do we need a EIN number. We winter in Arizona? Please advise
@AmberMelanieSmith5 күн бұрын
Hi Diane! Based on what you describe (choosing a few causes to support each season vs running your own programming), it sounds like you might want to form a giving circle instead of a 501c3 nonprofit! Then you won't need a board, or a bank account separate for the organization. I know Grapevine is a great resource. www.grapevine.org/

So doing some research on this, it looks like the big nonprofits contract with professional "canvassers" that go door to door trying to get donations for the organizations. They quoted me a quote that I would need to pay $150,000 up front and they would guarantee 500 donors that sign up for a month to month $25 min donation. They pay their employees a commission. So instead of doing it directly, they are paying a 3rd party to do commission based door to door sales for their nonprofits. It is a loophole and the big players do it, but it is considered taboo or unethical for others. It seems....wrong.
@AmberMelanieSmith9 күн бұрын
Yeah, I'm personally not a fan of that strategy either.

That cause sounds like it would be a great fit for individual donations. Create a budget showing how much you need to raise to help each person, and messaging around why donating is so important.

Re this "reaction" video - As an aspiring grant writer, I appreciate your commentary on this grant proposal. To me, this "puppies" proposal reads almost like a routine exchange/update between long-time organizations where continual funding is essentially assured. I did find it curious there was no commentary about the poor writing, with its run-on sentences and other grammar issues. Also, why was the $16500 salary number XXXX'd out? I'd like to see more "reaction" videos, but geared more towards the more comprehensive proposals where specific instructions must be followed regarding format, documentation, etc. "Reaction" videos analyzing rejected/disqualified proposals may also be helpful. Thanks for what your are doing, and for your consideration.

Thanks for your thoughts here! Not sure why some info might have been XX'ed out in the docs I shared from other sources, perhaps they felt it was a privacy thing, not sure! I do have some other videos on grantwriting that may be helpful too that dive into some of the things you mentioned.
