The Parmigiani is beautiful, but it’s a measure of the degree to which it’s really only the money that matters is encapsulated in the statement that “you reach this point in your life where wearing an $800 watch is just not an option. You don’t want to enter a restaurant or a car dealership…or a hotel with an $800 watch on. You just don’t do that.” 🙄So evidently there is in fact just one reason; flexing. Everything else is post-rationalisation, which is of course the basis of the today’s luxury goods premise.

From a purely practical perspective a Citizen A-T radio-controlled watch will ensure you don’t get fined on public transport! And yeah unless you wear the one watch every day, a perpetual or annual calendar effectively has no benefit - they are a flex. Rolex, pretentious? Sûrement pas?!

Ah, if we want to discuss ‘dodgy history’, let’s have a discussion about what IWC and Adolph Lange & Söhne did in WW2, or maybe Blancpain’s dodgy establishment date, Rolex’s economy with the actualité in it’s marketing, and so on and so forth. We could be here for weeks.

It was a limited numbered edition. Drop of 888 and then a ~3ish day pre-order for an unnumbered second batch, about six months later. They’ve done them two years in a row now, I’d expect more next year.

Other than the SUBs, there is at least one Doxa watch that I would keep alive: the Grafic. There’s a simplicity and a playfulness to it, not easy to find in the watch world… in the same time. A wonderful historic design! Remake it for the beach-club light-hearted holiday traveler, if you must keep it near the water 😂

I already have a regular 300 (and other Doxas, old and recent). I would definitely buy a Clive Cussler edition of the 600T. Please do it!

By that rationale, are Patek Aquanaut and Nautilus also "FU" or "Flex" watches? Some of them are not that obviously expensive for the general public.

JLC not only removed a bridge but also polished a circular section on the back to reflect light back through the tourbillon as seen at 3:25 in the vid. La Grande Maison continues to live up to its name as the watchmaker’s watchmaker.

How does the screen size compare to the GBD100. I am finding that my GBD100 is a little bit on the small size and not very visible when your eyes are getting older. 😂😂 The other option is a Google Pixel Watch 3 45 mm.

I have this watch and it's very attractive. The color combination is perfect and everything is well put together, except it's too big on my wrist. But this piece is a keeper for me because this is a very uncommon watch and hard to find these days.

Hi. Question. Everyone keeps saying that this is a ceramic bezel. Is the bezel inlay just ceramic over a DLC coated bezel, or a true full ceramic bezel? I only ask because I don’t want the bezel to be all scratched up in a few years if it’s just coated.
Reading the book 📕. Very interesting & inspiring. Thanks Mitch for the insights into the journey of a watch collector

If it seems like we are pampered then so be it, but that is hardly the truth and anyone who knows myself or the aBlogtoWatch team can attest to how hard we work and how little we take for granted.

@ All that tiring travel......
@ablogtowatch15 күн бұрын
@@jamesblonde2271 Lots of travel may seem glamorous from the outside. I suspect you'd feel quite differently if you were in our shoes doing the majority of it. How does spending three solid weeks in an airplane cabin in a year sound to you? None of these trips are either leisurely or particularly comfortable. I liken going to Watches & Wonders as akin to a mountain climbing adventure. It is athletic and stressful more than it is rewarding or relaxing. Indeed it feels nice to be asked to attend events in various places and be exposed to many different parts of the world. Given the value we offer to the watch industry in exchange for our often volunteer work means that they are getting the bulk of the value out of it. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but I think it would be wrong to suggest that aBlogtoWatch is either spoiled or elitist when it comes to how we participate in events that we travel to.

Keep it up! Love the commentary and updates on the watch industry. Just a random thought -- Imagine being super wealthy and only collecting watches that are way over the price of the inherent value of the product and demand for the product. That would be an interesting niche collection! Sometimes useful discoveries are found through whimsical or pointlesss features. Maybe the pistons in the watch has an unintended and unexpected useful impact on torque or amplitude of balance or something, lol. Yes! The Citizen's Super Titanium is the best! I have a Chronomaster and, unlike some other brands, you cannot tell there is a coating, to the touch, it is also somehow very scratch resistant while being beautifully finished.

UG never really went away in Hong Kong given the HK ownership but the watches they have been producing and selling through local retailer City Chain (that also distributes Seiko, Sinn, Citizen, etc) aren't very inspired but not too bad. They have some style and they even have quite cool limited editions. Retailers just can't get rid of them and I guess Breitling will push for a mega sale soon. Right now they're still only showing modest discount of 25% but it'll take selling at cost to move this stuff.
