What is great about this movie but lacking in so many is that an aging legacy hero isn't marginalized, deconstructed, or demeaned in favor of elevating the younger, more PC, more diverse next generation. Maverick is constantly reminded that he's a relic and that times are changing, but he's still allowed to be the hero and leverage his experience to elevate and mentor the supporting cast.
Char: Lalah Sune should've been a mother to me! Amuro: N-Nani?! *Both dies It's interesting that my 3 favourite Gundams have their respective statues. I still count the Freedom despite it not being Strike Freedom and is not in Japan.
