My dog is almost 2 and she really seems to find her crate her safe place. Am I supposed to be aging her out of this? She hangs out there all the time and even when we go away together she prefers her crate rather than cuddling lol..

I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi with a tail because I don't like the idea of docking tails. So his tail naturally curls over his back all the time. If he's wagging his tail, is there any way to distinguish between general happiness and over stimulation in this case? The only time his tail goes down is when he is afraid.

You can look at contextual clues in the environment but also look at things like ear placement, mouth tension and eyes to see if you can decipher stress / fear or excitement

My 8 week ridgeback will stay in crate when I sit outside of it with the door open. Should I do this till he gets more comfortable? I don’t know how to set up night time ? Should I sleep next to him… should I let him sleep wherever? I am not sure what to do…. He wants me to stay next to him… is that ok for now ?

Spite is a complex emotion that doggy brains aren't capable of. When we see this behavior it's usually stress.

Is this applicable to a 2 month old puppy? My puppy does lick its nose sometimes, the puppy has only been with us for less than a week
@HowToTrainADreamDogКүн бұрын
Yes, it is applicable but signals can be hard when the puppy is very young and still getting used to your home. Watch context carefully and soon you'll get to know your puppy's signals.

@JennAg617Күн бұрын
Hi Michele - can you tell me what you recommend on the floor under the puppy pen (as seen in the pic around the 8:04 mark of the video)? We plan to set up a puppy pen and have hardwoods, so I'm looking for a waterproof flooring option I can put down to protect the floor but can be easily cleaned. Thanks!
@HowToTrainADreamDogКүн бұрын
There are a few options that you might like including the chair mat like you'd have in an office, a high chair rubber / waterproof mat or a scrap piece of linoleum.

I have one question - I'm going with my family on this road trip, with one person at the wheel, another person in the seat next to the driver and a person at the back with the dog, my dog is a shih-tzu, which is a smaller breed. Is it okay if I keep her on my lap instead of a seatbelt, when there's a person(me) sitting at the back? Or is it absolutely necessary? And what do you do when you stop in a place where there are no dog-friendly cafes or restaurants? This usually poses a big struggle for my family, but this video was beneficial, thank you! :)
@HowToTrainADreamDogКүн бұрын
We do not recommend the dog on a lap. Just like with a child, that would be very unsafe if the driver suddenly had to brake or swerve or there was an accident. If you aren't able to find dog friendly cafes you might need to use a drive through, eat outside like at a park or take the food to go.

Great ideas!! Can’t wait to try these. How long do you freeze the kong treats? 4-5 hours?
@HowToTrainADreamDogКүн бұрын
Yes that's probably the right amount of time. Some dogs do better if the treats are only partially frozen (so they are easier to get out) while others do great with full frozen. Note which one seems to be better for your pup!

We have 4 week old puppies, four of them and they can’t hold it overnight, they only weigh 700 grams. They are still in their whelping pen overnight. We had to hand raise them from 3 days old and both my husband and I are recovering from breast and throat cancer so after 3 weeks we put a tray and pee pad into their whelping box. Works great except for 1 puppy who thinks it’s her new bed, sleeps in there and pees on the blankets.
