As a young Easts fan, I was set to go to this game at Lidcombe, on Saturday, but was too young to go on my own, so ended up going with my brothers the following day to the Sunday match of the day, Parra v Manly, Parra's last game at Cumberland Oval. Glad I went and witnessed history. 20-20. One of the all time great games

Just put the ball down you goose! I hate seeing stuff like this. This sort of stuff started with American professional sports teams and has spread around the globe. Embarrassing 😑

I can't stand on-field player "celebrations" like this. Post- try celebrations are bad enough, but when a player celebrates a try *BEFORE* the try is scored, to me he looks like a goose and he disrespects his family, his team and the sport of rugby-league. He looks like a sheila here, turning around and teasing the opposition. He could have easily dropped the ball while carrying out this stupid act. He looks like a diva. All he needs is a dress and a handbag 👗👛👠 If I was his coach and he did this under my watch, I'd drop him to reserve grade for the next game. To me, in a professional sport, this is unacceptable. Compare these shenanigans by Hopoate, to the classy way that Brett Kenny celebrates a try. John Hopoate ended the career of young Cronulla-Sutherland front-rower Adam Ritson, with a dangerous high tackle. Hopoate is a cheap-shot merchant.
@collateraldamage39873 сағат бұрын
I couldn't agree more. The guy belongs in a dress 😂 This sort of thing brings embarrassment to the game of rugby-league.

Eric - Do you have any problems running VHS VCR's to transfer all the old tapes to digital ? Can you still get the VHS machines serviced and can the parts be found easy enough ?
@eagleeric259810 сағат бұрын
Hi Kev, only problem I have are dirty heads. I use alcohol to clean the heads. I haven't tried to have any repaired, just chuck them away and I search vinnies and ebay for a replacement.
@eagleeric259810 сағат бұрын
And I do not have any trouble converting as I run the VCR into a set top box that records. Perfect outcome at the moment.
Born in Coffs Harbour, Tom Mooney played with Wauchope. South-Sydney brought him down to Sydney, where he played 25 games for South-Sydney. Manly-Warringah then snapped him up from Souths and he played 163 matches for the Sea-Eagles. An excellent player. Probably not a superstar, but very reliable and solid. Tom played in Grand-finals with Manly-Warringah in 1976 and 1978 and some considered him unlucky to miss out on a Kangaroo Tour berth in 1978.

There was a changing of the guard in the middle-to-late 1970s, from St. George to South-Sydney. St. George won 11 Premierships in a row, as we all know. Then in 1965 a Souths team of basically kids at the time, mostly Souths local juniors appeared and took on Saints in the Grand-final, only to pipped 12-8. Saints then beat Balmain in the 1966 Grand-final. But Souths refused to go away. In 1967 the great Kevin Ryan moved from St. George to Canterbury Bankstown and took Canterbury-Bankstown to the Grand-final, only to be pipped by Souths 12-10 in an absolute nail-biter. And that was basically the end of the St. George dynasty of this period. Souths won the Premiership in 1968, 1970, 1971 (against St. George). Balmain upset Souths in the 1969 Grand-final, in a controversial match where they employed time wasting tactics and lay on the ground feigning injury after being tackled. Then in 1971/72 that phenomenonal Souths team was ripped to shreds by other clubs and their cheque books 😂
@eagleeric259810 сағат бұрын
Thanks Brett, adding to your recap, I knew an accountant of some of these SS players who told me that due to the Leagues Club not performing well and lack of money, players were offered double elsewhere which matched the upper payments at the other clubs. The players wanted more and they had to move on.

I remember Dowling winning player of series on the 1980 Australian test tour of New Zealand but then struggled to get back into first grade at Parramatta due to Neil Hunt playing better at fullback. He had great year for Wests in 1981 but once again couldn’t get back into first grade due to Gary Jack taking his spot. It’s shame you didn’t include Dowling’s length of the field try against Cronulla at Endeavour field for Wests in 1981. Dowling unfortunately was killed in car accident about year later.

Dowling was a beaut - great ball runner and support player. The Moose couldn't help himself with the flat ball from Hage against his beloved Eagles 1:26. And how's the St George player going for the most blatant trip at 1:18?? They were a team full of grubs, Reddy the fantom biter etc. Man I hated them as a kid. Still do.

Three of the CB players who I always enjoyed watching over the years were Geoff Robinson, Terry Lamb, and most of all Gary Dowling. To say he as a respected player by players and fans alike is an understatement. When he died, it was a terrible shock.
@guodade22392 күн бұрын
The discussion at 0:17 is interesting given that at 1:35 we would see Hatch’s last try for seventy-seven games - until the 1989 fifth place playoff against the Broncos - and one of only fifteen in 183 first grade games. Cronulla 28 [Chris Withall, Malcolm Wheeler, Michael Porter, David Hatch, Phil Dotti tries; Phil Hurst 3, Mark Ellison goals] defeated Illawarra 8 [Steve Larder, Greg Mackey tries]
@eagleeric25989 сағат бұрын
I suppose they don't all need to be try scorers, Hatch obviously did his job for the team.
