Ok .Before disconnect old battery you can connect with another cable +battery old with + new battery and in the same you can do and negative.

This doesn't happen in all cars btw, in my dad's toyota 2019 fortuner we changed the battery at home with no problems and also my mom's 2016 jeep renegade, and neither also in my v-strom650, that probably happens mostly in bmw cars
@Rational_thinker_2122 күн бұрын
I'm thinking this vid is BS. The only thing that happens is the computers will have to relearn a few things and you will fail emissions testing until several complete heat cold cycles (usually about 4) are completed. This is done to prevent cheating emissions by clearing bad codes just before test time.

This is fundamentally incorrect. The firmware in the various control modules will simply run their setup routines once power is reapplied. All data in their flash memory will be retained. Items like fuel trims and transmission shift trims will be lost, since they're not stored in flash, but the vehicle will relearn them after only a few miles of driving.
@TopicMotor2 күн бұрын
It certainly will. Unless the ECU or the battery control module will set the limp mode or will ask you to "register" the new battery.
@ads10352 күн бұрын
Again, fundamentally incorrect. Limp mode may be triggered by low voltages - indeed, my CTS has a weak battery mode that disables the HVAC blower and other functions if a low battery is used to start the engine, so that it can recharge the battery more quickly. But if a healthy battery is connected to a car, regardless of age, then the car will function properly. There's no logic in a lead acid battery TO register.
@TopicMotor2 күн бұрын
Sorry, but what you are saying applies perfectly to older cars. I literally had the limp issue in a MB recently exactly because of battery being disconnected for 5 minutes. This gave me the idea for this video. Plus research in forums proved the idea.

I changed my battery in my Chevy Volt 2014. You can supply the car with 12V with connectors in the front of the vehicle and change the battery in the back of the car. You just have to make sure you don't touch a metal part with the battery connectors while you change the battery. Special battery which I got at Canadian Tire. Thanks for the video!

I hadn't thought this might be a problem. Thankfully our 2017 GMC Acadia didn't act up when we changed the battery early this year, we were replacing the originally installed battery because it started going bad.

American made vehicles are mostly OK with this. New 2023-2024 models anyway have way more complicated electronics.

BMW's do this all the time. If you drain the battery on accident and try to charge it or jump it, you could possibly damage the hardware or software in the Lighting Module. Meaning none of your lights or mirrors work properly/if at all. My newer Ford doesn't give a crap lol it's known to drain the 12v battery if not used for a week due to manufacturer sucking at electrical design. So I just jump the battery and my PHEV is good to go. This was a weekly occurrence for a year for the previous owner. I use my car daily tho, so I don't get the issue.

BMWs have been the pioneers in giving owners a lot of headache due to electrical issues. But now almost all new non-budget-friendly brands will do this, unfortunately.

Good advice, just remember not to allow the positive terminal to touch any ground/chassis while powering the car with a booster. I'd wrap the positive terminal with plastic while it's removed from the old battery.

@robertolaggo91412 күн бұрын
@@TopicMotor well for example working on audi airbag system, you must disconnect battery while ignition on. I presume issues with MB was not for disconnecting battery, but disconnecting in a wrong way or order. Maybe I’m wrong, but have never seen issue like this before. And even if there any warning lights on a dash after reconnecting the battery it goes out by itself just seconds after start driving, or after ignition recycle
@TopicMotor2 күн бұрын
It's now too hard to generalize when talking about cars. But newer vehicles mostly hate it when you unplug the battery.
@tshackelton2 күн бұрын
I agree... this is FUD... maybe if the car already had problems (safe bet any MB has a pile of codes already), it would act up, but that's not the battery. With all the xtra electronics, and stop/start new cars drain batteries like crazy, if that was enough to put a fork in it no new car would make it through the warranty. (I"m talking about lead acid 12v starter batteries in ICE cars here...)
@DC-wp6oj2 күн бұрын
Totally agree. Cars are engineered to be difficult to repair or only the dealership is able to do it at huge cost. That’s why I drive a 20yr old car.
@markdejesus31042 күн бұрын
Ugh, no. These computers are not built to be battery “reliant.” And these modules are far from fragile to break by mere removal of battery. They’d be more prone to failure in sudden loss of electrical power or surge, but the likelihood of it breaking by disconnecting the battery while parked, is very low if not nil.
@TopicMotor2 күн бұрын
I don't say they will break or burn. But they may reset which will lead to problems and minus 150-200 bucks from your pocket. Depends highly on the model and year though.
@markdejesus3104Күн бұрын
@@TopicMotor it is normal for computers to “reset” hence resulting into problems due to disconnected battery is very low or near impossible. If these computers break down due to frequent resetting, it’s not due to the disconnection of power source, but due to low quality materials used in building its internal components.

Hi there I started getting fault messages on the Dashboard of my 2020 mazda 3 saloon. I had the dealership hook it up to their Diagnostic machine which showed the battery needed replacing which they did. When i drove away the same fault messages came back so they hooked it up again to the diagnostic machine which didn't show any faults and i should monitor it over the weekend. Every day i drive the car the fault messages keep appearing eg Radar fault and driver safety faults. Any ideas before i take it back to the dealership?
@TopicMotor10 күн бұрын
Hey! It really may just need to recalibrate. But the problem may be with the radar itself or with the software - these issues are very common in Mazda vehicles. If the message never goes away, the radar wiring also may be affected.

You should have a look at the full list of recommended types of oil in the manual. But I doubt that the 1.8T has 0w20 among recommendations. I would change that oil since the difference between 5w40 and 0w20 is really significant.

Well if you use high quality oil you avoid this issue for the most part. Gasoline engines run cleaner and better by running them "harder". Gasoline usually cleans as well so using top tier gasoline helps too. Idling kills engines quicker than a spirited drive.

I have a new Subaru impreza with CVT transmission. All new Subaru's have Stop/Start which cuts engine when foot is on brake when stopped. This obviously disengages the Transmission. Thus this feature should never be disabled as many people are doing cause they don't like it. In the past I thought it was normal to stop your automatic car and keep the motor going and leave it in drive. If it was stopped too long I would put it in neutral. Seems the Stop/Start feature is saving the CVT transmission. Correct??
@TopicMotorАй бұрын
Yes, start stop will prolong the life of the CVT a little. But the video is more about conventional transmissions. CVTs mainly fail due to dirty fluid, towing, or just mileage/age.
@axis2946Ай бұрын
@TopicMotor if they mainly fail due to dirty oil, shouldn't the oil change be at least at 60,000k instead of 120,000k?
