if you wait 10,000 mils to change oil the car will fall apart in half the time just like the manufacturers want so you buy a new car.

@ranger178 pushing the narrative that ICE vehicles have to constantly change their oil is what EV salesmen do.

Yeah no bud. I've sent in AMSOIL to be tested at 12k miles and it's still 30% life left and that's under rough driving my GR86

If a manufacturer says change it every 10,000 do it in half that time.

It depends on the condition of your engine. if you have an old car like with 100,000 miles even if you change oil by the time you drive at home, the oil is going to look dirty For my specific car, I won’t mention the model because maybe that’s not appropriate here but after 60,000 miles it doesn’t matter how often I change the oil it still something to it. Pistons gone bad or what but it’s not that no one has changed oil. I changed my own oil every three months sometimes every month since I bought the car

Checking if it’s a different filter should tell you everything you need to know. It is technically possible to change a filter without the oil, but jumping through hoops like that is stepping over 10 dimes to steal a dollar.

You're going to check at the place and make sure it's at the proper level. No need to go home to do that.💰😃👍

Most dealership have cameras. If you have any questions just let your service advisor know. They can review footage. It's okay to trust. Plus those who are doing that wouldn't be there long, as their actions will likely catch up to them in matter of time.

Your K24 prefers changes every 5k or less, for the timing chains sake. I change mine every 3k in all my cars, no kill like overkill 🍻

Not to say there are not any shops ripping people off, however, having been 42 years as a Tech in Australia and Canada in many Dealerships as well as aftermarket shops..... have NEVER seen this. Most engines new or old the oil will almost always look the same as it did after you run the engine long enough to get home and "recheck". Colour is not very often an indication of condition. If you truly suspect someone doing this take a sample of oil before and after (kits available at most autoparts stores), send it off to be tested. Or.... go somewhere else where you have heard good reviews.

Not true, shop I was going to didn't change the oil filter, and I caught oil sludge starting, so had some help from a mechanic friend who cleaned up the sludge and did a motor flush, and since then I change my own oil and filter every 2500-3000 miles !

If you check your oil on regular basis as you should... it will be obvious if it's not changed. If you don't check it or haven't learned how to check it .. that should be on your to do list if you drive. Minimum knowledge Check oil Able to change a flat Jump car battery Know how to use tire chains in winter Have triple AAA it's not expensive..
