At least there’s one thing that “truck guys” and “anti-truck guys” can agree on and that’s “Cyber-truck guys are just weird.”

Montreal was a great city to spend a brief moment of my young adult life back in 2007-8. My tenure included the 3rd snowiest winter at the time, so having the Metro was crucial when snow would block an entire lane of traffic because there was nowhere else to put it, and it was too cold to ever melt between storms. I think the BIXI bike sharing did exist even back then, though I never used it. I lived in Verdun right off Wellington for a bit, very close to a Metro station. I had no idea it had become so "cool" since I lived there. At the time, the Plateau was where everyone wanted to be, and other young adults were surprised by my decision to move to Verdun. It seemed more like a working class neighborhood, but there were a few other creative/bohemian types who lived there and the nearby Point-Sainte-Charles that had a bit of a rougher reputation. I also spent some time living in Cote-des-Neiges, a very diverse, dense, working class neighborhood, and also, tragically unhip at the time, but with great access to the bus and Metro.

We have this in Australia too. People own these massive off road vehicles and larp as outdoor bushrangers but they probably taken it offroad once on holiday (and gotten it stuck in the sand emulating those toyota ads by parking it in the ocean tide)

The auto industry and local governments are the best and worst thing to ever happen to SE MI. While the auto industry thwarted every effort for mass transit, they simultaneously did zero to work with local municipalities to create an infrastructure to support their products they so desperately needed to sell.

I do blue collar style work in urban and suburban areas. Over the course of my career, most of my coworkers have self identified as rural. Beard? check. Truck? check. Guns? check. Masks? Absolutely not! Not a single one of them could grow a vegetable. Gardening is for snowflakes and women. Don't get me wrong, I like skeet shooting, and I couldn't do my work without a large van (vans > trucks), but I'm totally aware that I live 12 minutes from the interstate, 8 minutes from kohls and kroger, and despite having a large vegetable garden l would never consider myself "off grid". It's my theory that all of these guys have acted this way because they are absolutely terrified that someone might think they are anything but straight. Their masculinity seems solely derived from what they can purchase at Bass Pro or Rural King or what Joe Rogan tells them. Most of them seem to have daddy issues too.

I'm stuck on that comment by the guy who doesn't like cities, and when he was describing the things about cities he doesn't like, he included "values." This to me is everything wrong with Maga. People have to form a certain amount of judgment in order to survive and be safe in the world, but that is going at least one level further than is necessary or reasonable. Did he elaborate on what these "city values" are?

As a disaster preparedness specialist, I think it would be beneficial to produce some videos on disaster mitigation and resilience in urban design, especially after the Los Angeles fires. There are many historical examples of cities and towns, most notably Chicago, that made major changes to city plans and building requirements following disastrous fires.

Im poor and suburban. Pull a harbor freight trailer with a ford focus. I do handy person stuff. It’s weird pulling up on a house with a 3/4 ton in the driveway to fix a sprinkler head. Never put this much thought into this. Thank You.

America is full of hate and fear. Change my mind. But I do like me a bike trial that has a lot of food and drink options to stop at along the way. I think if you're on a ride with a number of people, going to get food from different place and then sitting together and checking what everyone got and how it was is great starting conversation.

So, if resource extraction takes place, but that wealth is exported to company owners from a different place , does that reflect in the county of extraction, or where the person making the money lives? Sorry, just trying to understand

I was shocked San Antonio, Tx wasn’t on this list. I recently saw a survey showing it as the least-walkable major city (and having been a pedestrian for most of my life, I can attest to that). However, some of your metrics may have bumped it. For example, I’m sure there are a lot of one-car households because there are a lot of poor people who would love to have multiple cars and only having one is making their lives harder. And despite our public-transportation system being almost unusable, especially for the size of city it is, a lot of people in San Antonio have to use it because they can’t afford anything else. This probably just results in people leaving an hour early to get to work when they could get to work in 20 minutes in a car or being forced to live in walking distance of work or live on a bus route (I know this was the case for me).

I live rural. Have a truck. I don’t understand why city people want to drive around just carrying air in the back. Now city guy rambling about urban people is funny. You don’t get around country folk. Saying self identify is stupid

I would love to have a compact truck or a three door hatchback, the two cars they don't make anymore, I'm a musician and those type vehicles are perfect for carrying gear, the big trucks don't make any sense to me, the comment of "don't scratch the bed" is just so funny thinking about all the times I shoved small pieces of furniture or packed the backseat full of gear driving to a gig

In my neck of the woods it's a status symbol to own one, usually the guys at the top have the luxury versions of the one tons and a diesel doesn't hurt either so we're talking usually around 80k, it's standard for the wives to have either a suburban or one of the new Jeep wagoneers so you're talking 60 or 70 thousand right there, most of this is funded by governmental employees and the wives usually work in the hospital industry. Just an observation.

I'm in LA. Born and raised, but I also lived in a bunch of other US cities before returning. It's funny that you sing the praises of the transformed streets of Culver City--many of the residents (largely in single family dwellings) complain endlessly about how it slows down traffic. It's wild to me that people would prioritize driving through their town over spending time there. Since you made this video, some similar changes were made on Venice Blvd, and I think that they may actually be reversed, due to pressure from Culver City drivers who hate being slowed down. PS The obsession with R1 zoning here is just awful. The city council recently voted to choose a plan that would convert medium density housing into high density housing, displacing residents of the medium density housing, over changing any of the R1 zoning. It's madness. My city counselor claims to be a champion of sustainability, but even she voted against changing R1 zoning. I thought this video might be about how to transition from it.

I used to commute via the Tri-Rail and Miami Metro to UM when I lived in Broward County and this video stings. I wound up moving to LA shortly after finishing school and was floored by how much more advanced LA transit was/still is, despite all of its issues and its definitely being far from world class itself. Though, Miami at least has Metro service to the airport and has for a decade. Still waiting on that from LA. lol

Another comment, I live in the City of Atlanta 5 minutes drive from Atlantic Station and sometimes my commute to my job in Sandy Springs feels like a super commute even though it’s only 10 miles away. It’s gonna get worse as plan to move closer to the beltline/piedmont park area in a few years.

Idk if this counts but I had a older coworker that would be remote for 3 weeks of a month and in person for 1 week. The company paid for her flights and she’d stay with her sister. Her reasoning was she didn’t wanna move from where she lived with her husband and didn’t wanna find a new job either.

Call me confused if you wish. On the slide, you write "Counties with large cities are particularly low performers in the Risk domain (higher score = more risk), which is weighted heavily in the CRSI. Based on this statement, it is safer to live where scores are low. But, when walked us thru the best cities to live in, the higher the score, the better you ranked it.
