Great to see you. Was working on my mill today. Horrendous brinelling on some thrust bearings. My verdict for you is definitely don't tig it. Not worth it. Diamond file and just reprofile/blend out the damage.

That is exactly what I've been doing with the less damaged gears using a diamond Dremel disc ( designed for sharpening tungsten electrodes) to just bring back the profile and remove any shards.

Brilliant video and great work upgrading the press. Really enjoyed it. I like your Ajax mill. Similar size to my Harrison, except your Ajax is all in one piece and it works.

Glad to see this new video posted! I bought the same lathe almost a year ago and am quite slowly bringing it back to life, so am following your progress with great interest. My headstock looks pretty good inside, so to start I’ll flush it, fill with fresh oil and see how it runs, but I’m about to drop the carriage, as you did in this chapter, to make sure it isn’t polluted. Thanks for sharing your work and good luck with the reassembly!

Hello mate, that was a brilliant video. I really enjoyed it. Its a similar journey you are on with your lathe as I am with my Harrison mill. I wish I had a parts cleaner as everything on the mill is filthy and its backbreaking work with a big plastic box, solvent and brushes etc to clean it all. Good score on the NOS clutch basket. I just got a NOS X axis lead screw and nut for my mill. Old nut was worn out. I got the NOS parts for less than the cost of a piece of bronze to make a nut. I have made slow progress this year as my wife has been poorly. Your channel has spurred me on. I like what you do as you are working in a similar way to me, in a similar space. Merry Christmas to you and thanks for all the great content in 2024.

@@carlwilson1772 the parts washer is a great addition to the workshop although could very easily be made up on the cheap , I just bought some industrial grade detergent non solvent so it's not as dangerous and irritating to have in the heated workspace. I managed to score the clutch basket on black Friday deals for £65 but the other replacement feed gears I have sourced came at a much higher price. Wishing you and the wife a happy holidays & hope she's on the mend now.

Hi! - I have the very same problem with my van. Is it really possible to remove the rail without lifting the floor? When you say you managed to get 'under' the van to remove it - do you mean from under the chassis? Any chance of a few pics? I'm trying to find a local welder and convince them that this can be done. Previous mechanics have told me you need to lift the whole floor (which I think is the case for other models but this model clearly has bolt heads on the outside.🙏

You were a lucky gut, to find those NOS parts, especially the clutch basket. ( saves you Tig welding those edges up and re machining). Are you going to repaint the outside? (almost rude not too🤣). Lucky you acquired that shaper, eh. its a good plan B, if the 'Cosmic supply Co' does not come up trumps. All the best for 2025!

@@ratboy2962 yes that's it I couldn't pass up the opportunity when it became available! Not badly priced either on black Friday sales I only paid £65 for the clutch basket, I have since Also found a pair of replacement feed gears safe to say they came at a much higher price :'( , I had bought that shaper with the intention of using it to cut gears with tight shoulders that can't be done with conventional cutter set-up I'm quite looking forward to firing up the Elliot 10M , just need to get this gearbox back together ( and yes you're right it would certainly be rude not to give the old beast some fresh paint)

I just use the pound land stuff)

Fantastic videos that I plan to use for my refurb this winter. On the handbrake bracket - I think you will find the one supplied is right - you have the same rollbar as mine which I saw fitted in the 1970's and it was necessary for the original handbrake bracket to be trimmed (as you have had to do on the supplied part) to avoid a clash with the rollbar.

Hi, I've just been given a herbert 0V mill for free that was going in the scrap if i didn't take it, it's just like your's, though it's in rougher shape, it's got a bit of surface rust but nothing is siezed solid, it seems like a reasonably tight machine but we'll see once i get it cleaned up a bit.

Thanks for posting these videos. You’ve done an impressive job of pulling the headstock apart. I know it’s a lot of work to film and edit the process, but I’ve subscribed to your channel in hopes that you document the reassembling of this machine. I happen to have acquired a Triumph 2000 (called the Clausing-Colchester 15” here in the US) earlier this year, and am in the process of cleaning it up and evaluating. It’s similar in age to your lathe, and a very nice machine which I’m thrilled to put back in service. Best of luck with your rebuild!

What was the cause of your starter to keep running after you let off of the start lever and then had to disconnect the battery? I just replaced my solenoid and got it to run for about 5-10 seconds before it died, like it ran out of fuel (I changed the filters, but the tank liner is disintegrating and I might have another problem there). When I tried to start the engine again and then let off the lever, my starter kept running as well, and like yours, the bendex wasn’t engaging the flywheel and I had to pull my battery cables to stop it. My wiring looks awful with cracks in the insulation and the red cable coming off of the front of the solenoid looks like it just has one strand left. Do you think it could be my wiring or something else? I’m debating replacing just a few of the wires but maybe the whole harness which would be a big job for me. I think mine is a 1958.
