I just started faffing about with the organ setting on FP90 and realised a lot of this solo is simpler than it sounds. I think Phil is doing the heavy lifting here with the drums.

Great points (as usual). For my transcriptions I used Sibelius in the past and now I am using Musescore (unfortunately I can’t afford Sibelius anymore, but I love it to bits.) Are you planning to talk about the importance of ear training? If so, I would love to hear your opinion about the best ways and tools to develop aural skills.

I learned a lot transcribing the Firth of Fifth intro, when I was in a Genesis tribute band in the late 80s (and I learn even more from your transcriptions!) It was not easy but it was just piano -- when you have the whole band playing you need the best sound quality to try to transcribe individual instruments. 5.1 (surround) mixes are usually very good for this type of work.

Awesome! This would've been a great addition to Genesis Live Album...biggest regret is them never doing it live after they perfected and recorded it...their live version in 1972 in Italy which I think they played all of twice was still a work in progress but still sounded great!!

Too me the most interesting facet of this iconic solo is not what Banks did with his right hand lead solo. It's the Chords he used underneath that created the most Drama with his left hand! Love this part of Supper's Ready.

the 3 violins to cello transition was done nicely just as if the track selector was moving from B to A on the M400.

Yes, definitely. In this case, I believe that two different takes were recorded, or alternatively, on two different Mellotrons simultaneously, one for 3 Violins and one for Cello. This is what I hear.
