Strange seeing all these places we'd pass in 1960s and changes now. You assume it'll stay the same. lol I worked at WOOLWORTH DEPT STORE 5/10 1967-68 as Inventory Clerk. Bought a FORD RAMBLER 1959 with my earnings. Cowboy boots. etc. I was 14 years old. Dirt poor living on South End behind CHEZ PARIS under a Laundry Mat on Sherwin street. I still have photos of it. sadly. Friends lived below in nice homes on Green street. Grandparents on Kennebec street. I was born in Waterville. know every inch of that town. Keys Bank helped me in 1996 buy a second home on 3 CENTRAL AVE and I closed the deal telling my sick mother she could live there. She refused. She was more comfortable at LEVINE'S APTS on Main street. weird. People looked after her here I later learned and she was quite ill. Couldn't handle a home of her own. I tried. I do love MAINE but, not my history there. Poverty was a depressing issue. I earned my MBA in Intern'l Business and traveled the world and owned homes in Italy, Germany, California (today: jameshhall1954 instagram photos) but, those childhood years in your HOME TOWN still stay with us. My dad was a real loser. He just didn't care and hurt everyone. Love the VIDEO but, not all the changes in our city. MONEY ENTERING TOWN it appears. SERVICE JOBS ONLY. Hathaway closed down. All those blue collar jobs gone. DEXTER SHOES? Probably gone. There was a town with chain of stores lining the street. Forgot name. 1 hour drive and you could buy goods at WHOLSALE PRICES. I was born in Maine but just moved back up last year after 45 years. There’s a lot of nice areas up here too explore but sad to say the drug problem up here has over shadowed this beautiful place.

Wow. 69 years. That’s a long time. Not much has changed. I haven’t lived in Maine too long. I was born in Bangor in 1973 but my parents and I moved to Maryland when I was 5. I just moved back up to Maine this year. I’m 48 years old now.

@@vernahughes4281 we hunted in Maine for ten years. On the way up we would stop at the Silent Woman for a steak dinner. The steak was very good, no complaints. Thank you for your reply!

That was my favorite restaurant in town before it closed probably in the 1990s, maybe even earlier.

Thanks for the comment. I’m originally from Maine. Born in Bangor but lived most of my life in Maryland. I just recently moved back up to Maine to help out with my aging parents to help take care of them

I cannot make this up, I just got in an argument with my wife of 46 years about LIVING IN MY MAINE. lol With the Equity in this house we could live like Kings in Maine. I'd go to Houlton, ME where I have family and friends. Nice community. Farms. 74 acres, 6 bedroom homes with Barn, basement (we don't find here ever) attic, and more. Near lakes, fishing. Hunting. Hiking. Canada. EVERYTHING I WANT. My wife is Italian and hates the 'cold Winta's' lol I say, so what. We'd live happier and better there. Everything is so expensive here. Crime sky high. Never know if we'll be Killed by a mass shooter or mugged in the parking lot of market. Gangs everywhere. Scammers. You name it they are here. I live in an Old home my dad built in 1959 for $30,000. Main Street really has changed! I spent many a childhood summer in Waterville, spending hours in the library, climbing on the cannon in the park on Elm Street, and going to see what I might buy for a dollar at Woolworth's a few years before you worked there. My heart, like yours, @James Hall, resides there sill.

Mom died at LOCKWOOD HOTEL which was LEVINE'S APARTMENTS back in the day, which is weird because in 1954 I was BORN in Apt 19 LEVINES APTS. 1954. My mom was close to the family and they gave her a great deal. She was poor. At one time she lived with 11 women on a Farm in a huge Victorian home in N Vassalboro. When I saw her in that house with all those old women, sick women, I cried. I had to get her out of there. When my Father died I found out SHE COULD GET HIS SOCIAL SECURITY check. Nice! Increased double and she was able to get back to LEVINE's Apts where she felt comfortable. When she died I finally found out what her issues were all her life, schizophrenia. My God that is horrific. In 1968 she was working at US NAVY Intelligence on Navy yard in San Diego, CA a DATA PROCESSING and later computer specialist. One day they found strange notes in her locker and I guess knew she was Mentally ill. sad. My brother and I tried so hard to help her. RIP.....Yes, I love MAINE. Beauty. History. and places to enjoy. Then Robert found out why, PITTS became HALL. lol Dad's dad drowned 1943 in Hull, MA 11 pm at night while FISHING with a buddy to feed his family of 8 children. Fell overboard in a storm. Dad recovered his father's body 2 weeks later onshore. Age 13. He started drinking and smoking that week. depressed and now the OLDIEST CHILD who had to care for his siblings and mother. Find a JOB. In those days NO CHILD WORK LAWS. 1943. 13 years old working in a factory. My God! died at age 61 alcoholism/cancer of brain. Mom died in LEVINE'S APTs of stomach cancer age 71. What a history. MAINERS - Larry Hall my brother died at age 53. Cancer. Born in Buena Park, California. I never knew these things until ROBERT CHENARD OF WATERVILLE, MAINE HELPED ME. If you came up POSITIVE you saw ME first. OMG! Tough meeting. I had to decide what happened next. Counseling. Slap on hand or Pink slip. Reports went directly to Gen Haig. 4 great years. Post Vietnam. I later became a Regional VP for BEST FOODS CORP. Europe., USA, Canada. I couldn't be stopped and it ALL STARTED IN WATERVILLE, MAINE. lol Of all places. 1996-98 I owned 3 CENTRAL AVE. Weird because NO POLICE, NO HIGHWAY PATROL stopped me. 1960s were open and wild. Kids could do anything. TODAY THE COPS WOULD PICK UP A CHILD HITCHHIKING alone. Even with someone they'd STOP & ASK QUESTIONS on a freeway! weird. I got to Malibu. finally. Hungry. Tired. with my little green suitcase. My father opened door. 9 am. Beard. bathing suit with a woman IRENE I later found out was his 3rd wife of 5. He was DRUNK. (again, later found HE WAS DRUNK EVERY DAY since age 13 after finding father dead under a PIER in the water. Drowned). Anyway, what happened next? HE CLOSED THE DOOR ON ME. My God. My dad!? I slept on BEACH under a Lifeguard station for 2 months. ALONE. Finding odd jobs around town, what a life. why I didn't end it I'll never know,. Maybe fear? I later found a FOSTER HOME to live with. I just moved up here from Maryland and it’s quite an adjustment because places aren’t just a hop skip and jump away. But I do enjoy downtown Bangor and the casino and waterfront walking are close by. If it wasn’t for my aging parents I’d probably move back too Maryland or Virginia.

@@JamesTravels617 If you live near the Bangor area you’ll be close to shopping in hospitals but far enough away from traffic in crime. Waterville is also a nice place to live from what I’ve heard.
