Instead of looking for and purchasing an adaptor, consider either buying or swapping your bottle. The new valve assemblies accommodate both POL and LCC27 fittings

Nice. Very good explanation of torque 👍 My HSD performance line motor has 65nm torque, love it, but if it had come in the stronger Cargo line I would’ve bought that instead, for more power/speed up big hills. We pootle up them at 4mph loaded up 😂

You are correct about the bags denting and such with only a bit of use. When we were selling these bags I would always point that out to potential customers. Sometimes it was a deal breaker and more often than not it wasn’t. There’s a few ways to look at this. Firstly all bags will scratch and dent regardless of which material they are made from. Secondly, they are aluminium so some dents can be beaten out. Thirdly the dents give them charm and make them uniquely yours. In light of them denting and scratching they do tend to outlast just about everything else. I had a client who gave me a 45 year old ZH suitcase that I used as a display. He retired and didn’t need it anymore. He was a person that traveled internationally for many months of each year that he owned the bag. It was dented and scratched, but still good enough to travel with.

Hi I am getting a second hand - actually a third hand Tern Touring S8i here in india. What checks and balances should I look for before buying the cycle?? Please guide as in this part of the world we actually dont have anyone who understands folding bikes, internal gear hubs or Dynamo hubs. There’s a lot of intel on external gears hubs but negligible for internal.

Thanks. Very helpful and informative. I bought a gas bottle gauge from Bunnings today, not realising it had the LCC27 connection. It was only when I checked on line that I learned about the change from POL to LCC in 2021 and found myself suddenly pannicking, thinking that if I changed out my Swap and Go bottle it wouldn't be compatible with my BBQ, Caravan, etc. Reasuring to know that I can still connect both types.

Thanks for the review. I think Terns are real quality and worth the premium for a robust e-bike. I’ve been looking for a foldable e-bike to put in the back of my Jeep for adventures and suchlike. I would prefer something more compact, but think this would be a better bet for taking the hard knocks when I’m 6’5” and 110kgs, as I’d worry that cheaper brands might snap and fall to pieces.

@@FormanddesignAu Thanks mate. I’ve checked out your other excellent videos and whilst I’d prefer the folding bike for the convenience of placing into my short-wheel base Jeep, I’m worried it might not be quite strong enough, as I’m quite a big, tall guy. I’ve looked Tern’s website and like the look of the latest HSD S+ model, which has a Gates belt-drive and an automatic gearbox that seems great for a low maintenance, easy hop-on and ride experience. Very expensive though. It’s kind of semi-folding, so I might be able to just squeeze it into my vehicle. Have you had a chance to look at this model? What are your thoughts about this bike?
@FormanddesignAu
@FormanddesignAu 3 ай бұрын
I think the HSD is the nicest of the TERN eBikes to ride. I've sold quite a few of them. Being a Professional Mechanical Engineer, I tend to personally prefer the simpler things like a derailleur. The auto changing is good, however you still have to change the desired cadence frequently for the auto to work properly. For example, normal riding on a flat you would set the cadence to 60rpm. When going up a steep hill, or when you want to accelerate fast from a standstill you would want to select 90 rpm. The only downside is that you have to use the + and - keys on the controller to do this and it adjusts one unit at a time. There are no presets. This kind of takes the gloss off the whole "auto" changing thing. It works well but.... One caveat, is that you can set the controller to change gears manually using the + and - buttons on the controller, but that defeats the purpose of having an auto. My preference is to keep it simple. Go for a high torque motor and a big battery and a derailleur. They are messy, get dirty, need adjusting etc, but anyone can fix and adjust them. The Gates drive thing is also a bit over-rated in my opinion. But if you are riding in a relatively flat area, and you are not prone to sudden bursts of acceleration, then go for the fully auto and you won't be dissapointed. If you are in a hilly area with lots of traffic, like I am in Sydney, then keep it simple and change the gears yourself with a derailleur rather than a hub gear set.

I had the same experience, but we were a Holden family. Next time that we drove up we could only go as far as Rawson Pass and walk to the top. That would have been in the late 70’s. Then by the early 80’s Pioneer coaches ran a service from Perisher, in summer obviously, to Rawson Pass. No cars were allowed when the buses started running. By the mid 80’s no cars or buses were allowed past the Charlotte Pass lookout. Nowadays I walk it or use my eBikes.

The POL connector has a nitrile rubber seal on the tip. I can't see any form of seal on the LCC27. How does the LCC27 regulator seal to an LCC valve? And how does the POL regulator seal to the LCC27 valve? Edit to add: The original POL connector did not have a seal and used metal on metal but quite quickly manufacturers found it was prone to leak so they added a variety of rubber seals; settling on the bullnose and oring variety. Will Australia need to go through the same discovery process?

Great, they almost managed to imitate the original. However 2 Features are still missing, which I find personally a bit disappointing as they would be easy to implement or to patch: 1. The minute pointer jumps, rather than slides, after the seconds pointer stops for 2 seconds. This is a small detail, but if you are already doing everything to imitate the original, why not do it properly? 2. Daylightsaving should be automatised. I hope they can patch these functionalities for the future. A bonus feature would be: 3: Synchronisation of SBB clocks among each other in the same country/region

Do you need a licensed gas fitter to change the hoses over? I i know it's easy but i don't want to give the insurance co. a way out
@FormanddesignAu
@FormanddesignAu 6 ай бұрын
If in doubt, get a licensed gas fitter. It’s always good practice to check the integrity of any gas fitting, new or old, by using soapy water around the fitting. If it bubbles then the fitting is not safe. The fitting needs to be under internal pressure (ie gas flowing through) for the test to be valid.
