The LCC Type 27 is basically the same as the old US QCC fitting. This was superseded some time ago by the OPD fitting. The OPD fitting has a triangular valve handle and an overfill protection mechanism inside the cylinder. The Australian LPG industry missed an opportunity to eliminate the problem of overfilling.

I recently purchased an LPG pizza oven fitted with the LCC27 attachment, knowing that all of my gas cylinders are POL, I asked the salesperson if they had adapters and his response was that it was illegal for retailers to sell them. Once I was home a search revealed that the only place to buy the adapters was via EBay. The problem is, if you were to use one of these adapters, you could be potentially creating a gas leak scenario. When you are tightening the LCC27 knob clockwise (right hand thread), you could at the same time be loosening the POL side of the adapter (left hand thread) and therefore breaking the seal on the POL side.

Did a swap and go recently for my POL fitting, got the LCC without realising, and the POL fitting doesn't actually depress the safety valve in the LCC-27 connector. There is a difference on the end, and I tried putting it in tighter, but still no go, managed to get it to work with a different POL connector, but seems they aren't all exactly the same.
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
There are some discrepancies with older POL fittings. Also the regulated useful life of a regulator/fitting assembly is ten years. That goes for gas bottles as well since they have to be re-certified every ten years and stamped as such. That's why it's good to use a swap system. In terms of your old POL fitting, my recommendation is to go to a hardware store and buy a replacement hose/regulator/ fitting, like the one I showed in the video and replace it.

That’s all very well and good except … I have a POL cylinder, exchanged it at Bunnings back in May. Still has heaps of gas in it. But the hose & reg on my BBQ was perished and the O-ring was pretty squished, so I thought I would just buy a replacement. But POL hose and regs are not available anywhere. I didn’t want to get an LCC27 type because my cylinder is still nearly full. Fortunately I found one on Amazon. Then I bought a Matador Rapid Searer (brilliant machine, cooks a steak in 2.5 mins), but of course it comes with an LCC connector that doesn’t fit my POL cylinder. aaahh! At this stage I was about ready to stick my head in the oven, but didn’t have the right connector.

Now in search for an LCC 27 fitting, also definitely a lot more safer knowing that gas won’t leak if knocked. When will we adopt the same standard fitting for diving tanks where if knocked then gas pressure can not release.

I just found out about this chage recently whilst talking to my gasfitter. I don't have a problem with the change, but would be interested to know if there is a safetey issue that I came across years ago whilst changing out a forklift bottle. The fork gas bottle has that same feature of not allowing gas out of the cylinder until thje fiting is attached. However, in the incident I mentioned, I once changed out a cylinder, not realising that the tap had been left openAs a consequence, I got a gas burn on my hand when I inserted the fitting and straight away the gas came out before having a chance to screw in the fitting! After that, I made it a habit to check the tap prior to fitting the hose, but I have so far not seen any comments about this happeningI would be interseted to know if it can still happen with these new fittings, as currently I don't have one ot try out.
@FormanddesignAu5 ай бұрын
Firstly, you make a good comment that you should always check that a valve is properly closed before attaching or removing a fitting. Secondly, it sounds like both the forklift LPG bottle and the propane bottle (in the video) use a similar kind of safety/check valve. However removing our attaching a fitting to the bottle when the valve is open will always create some kind of pressure blow back even if only momentary. The tightening nut on the propane bottles have a shroud that should give some protection from the gas blow back when removing the fitting when the valve is open but the bigger problem could be the tightening nut flying out of your hands from the back pressure. I haven’t tested this and I really don’t intend to try it. The best and safest way to handle these fittings is to always double check that the valve is closed when attaching or removing a fitting.

@@FormanddesignAuThe US has transitioned to the externally similar OPD fittings. It is basically the same as the QCC/LCC27 but has a triangular valve handle and an internal overfill cutoff float to prevent overfilling. All of the QCC connectors I’ve seen so far from US manufacturers have retained the internal POL thread for backwards compatibility, so it seems likely that they’ve got backwards compatibility built in too.

@minxythemerciless10 ай бұрын
The POL connector has a nitrile rubber seal on the tip. I can't see any form of seal on the LCC27. How does the LCC27 regulator seal to an LCC valve? And how does the POL regulator seal to the LCC27 valve? Edit to add: The original POL connector did not have a seal and used metal on metal but quite quickly manufacturers found it was prone to leak so they added a variety of rubber seals; settling on the bullnose and oring variety. Will Australia need to go through the same discovery process?

What about the 2 burner they come with a black hose and that's it
@FormanddesignAu Жыл бұрын
I'll duplicate the response to your previous comment here. "Firstly, I'm only talking about Australian standards. It's impossible to tell where you are from without you identifying your country. If you are not from Australia this does not apply to you. If you are from Australia, I think that you are referring to small bbq's or camping stoves typically purchased from camping shops. If this is the case, then you can find these smaller items supplied with a simple black hose and a hex shaped coupling on the end which is not at all like the the POL or LCC27 fitting in the video. In that case the video is not for you and should ignore it. If you do have the smaller bbq/camping stove with the simpler fitting then these fittings are designed for very small gas bottles of 2kg or less, not the 5 to 9 kg bottles referred to in the video. I hope that helps."

@FormanddesignAu2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. It’s not compatible. DO NOT TOUCH IT. The bayonet fitting is for natural gas. Gas bottles are filled with propane. The gases are different as are the delivery pressures. They have different regulators and different burners. Note this relates to Australia only. Always use a licensed gas fitter to change or adapt gas fittings wherever you are in the world. I wanna get rid of the counter clock wise turn on the tank to tighten it. I’d rather have the other end with the big plastic so I can hook it up clockwise and un loosen it counterclockwise like normal on anything else then I don’t have to bring a wrench. Is that possible for cutting the hose and putting a different one on?
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by this. The new LCC27 fitting is a clock-wise fitting (for tightening). If you have an old POL fitting, then simply go to a hardware store and purchase a new hose which will come complete with a regulator and the new LCC27 fitting attached. Then simply replace the old hose, by unscrewing it, with the new hose/regular/LCC27 fitting. I hope that answers your question.
@scottjkernАй бұрын
@ I went to a hardware store and they actually had it for once every other place in this small town never had crap. I bought the adapter and it also has a regulator on top to let you know if you’re full or lower or medium wish I could send photos on here.

@ so my 10 foot hose is a pol end to it. So I got the adapter that has the threads inside that you turn counterclockwise to tighten it and on the other side it has the big one that you just put over the top on the tank and that goes clockwise like normal.
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
I think I understand what you are trying to achieve. I have seen on internet searches the type of product that you have purchased. If I understand this correctly, what you have purchased is an adaptor that converts a POL bottle to a LCC27 fitting. Just for the sake of explanation, I am a Professional Mechanical Engineer and I designed many pressure vessels and their associated fittings. I also managed design and manufacturing operations that made cryogenic road tankers and pressure vessels. I have some experience in this and I have seen many accidents and heard of many more from gerry-rigged appliances as well as accidents happening that have caused redesigns of products. The problem with the type of adaptor that you are using is this, the two threads work against each other as you have pointed out. So when you install one, let's say the POL fitting which has a CCW thread, every time that you tighten the LLC27 fitting (which is a CW thread), you risk loosening the POL fitting. That's because to loosen the POL fitting you wind it CW. You might say that you tighten it more than enough so that it won't loosen, to which I would say, that's an accident waiting to happen. The adaptors have been banned in several states already due to severe burns occurring from adaptors that have come loose. Given enough time, these adaptors will be illegal all over the country. There have been a few comments from people who seem reluctant to just upgrade their equipment. I'm not sure I understand why. In stead of spending money on adaptors, isn't it just easier to swap a bottle. The swap system doesn't care if it's not their bottle. They don't care if you go and fill the bottle through a manual fill station later when it's empty. Also, their bottles are certified, checked and stamped. Bottles have to be re-certified every ten years. Also the considered useful life of a hose and regulator is also ten years. New hoses with regulators are also a cheap alternative. My recommendation is to, throw away your adaptor and upgrade your gas bottle to the new LCC27 fitting either by purchasing a new one or by swapping it out. The LCC27 fitting will accept both POL and LCC27 fittings on your appliance.
@scottjkernАй бұрын
@ like I told you before I’m not allowed to send pictures on here. They don’t let you if you would look at a picture I have you would understand. When I hook up my Mr. heater, I like to have a ACME hook up with a huge plastic handle that you turn on clockwise onto your tank. With the POL you have to turn it counterclockwise to your propane tank. All I did was buy an adapter that the POL screws right into the adapter and that will personally stay there nonstop. I will not take it out. The other part is the ACME. I told you before give me your email please

POL fitting doesn't depress the internal safety valve in the LCC fitting , Screws in but no gas
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
If that is the case then either your POL fitting or the LCC27 fitting is faulty. Try your POL fitting with another LCC27 fitting. If that doesn’t work then mostly likely your POL fitting is the problem. If it does work then it was the LCC27 that was faulty. Make sure that it is actually an LCC27 fitting made for Australian use. Other fittings from other countries are similar but not the same. Also there are some discrepancies with older POL fittings.

@FormanddesignAu2 жыл бұрын
I mean this with all sincerity, but if you are asking that question I would strongly recommend that you seek the assistance of a gas fitter/plumber to help you. If you are not familiar with how to change a gas fitting then you might create a situation where gas could leak from the fittings and cause a fire. Incorrectly installed gas fittings account for a large proportion of injuries from gas operated appliances. FYI gas hoses with regulator, pressure gauge, and LCC27 fittings are sold as a complete unit from camping stores and hardware stores

This only applies to Australia.

@FormanddesignAu Жыл бұрын
If in doubt, get a licensed gas fitter. It’s always good practice to check the integrity of any gas fitting, new or old, by using soapy water around the fitting. If it bubbles then the fitting is not safe. The fitting needs to be under internal pressure (ie gas flowing through) for the test to be valid.

Just be careful of the gas flow on the new fittings as they won’t work on larger BBQ’s the hole in the end of the hose where it screws into the bottle is a lot smaller and won’t allow high volumes of gas to flow out.
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
The new fitting only applies to the 4-5kg and the 9kg bottles. They are not being implemented on the larger 45kg bottles or the smaller bbq bottles. The stated flow rates and pressures for the POL and the LCC27 fittings are similar.They both have similar pressure ratings between 2.75 and 2.8kPa. The flow rates are 1.5kg/h (LCC27) and 2.0kg/h (POL). These are the stated pressure ratings at the regulator. I would recommend checking the regulator ratings because they might differ slightly between brands. The ratings will be clearly stated on the regulator. It's the regulator that will determine the flow rates and pressures, but it is true that the nozzle inside diameter on a LCC27 fitting is smaller than a POL. This is a correction from an earlier version of this response where I stated that they were essentially the same.

You can get an adapter for your gas bottle so you can use either fitting
@FormanddesignAu5 ай бұрын
Following your comment, I have searched online for either POL to LCC27 adaptors or LCC27 to POL adaptors and found none to suit LCC27 fittings in Australia. There are plenty of QCC to POL adaptors for the US market (available online in Australia through foreign sellers), but these are not for the Australian market, so my comments are restricted to the Australian specification for the LCC27 fitting. A gas bottle fitted with an LCC27 valve assembly accepts both LCC27 and POL fittings, so no adaptor required there! If you have a bottle with a POL valve assembly the easiest, simplest and safest way to allow it to accept a LCC27 fitting is to go to a petrol station or hardware store and swap your old POL bottle for a bottle with a LCC27 valve assembly. If you were to attach a fitting to an old POL bottle to accept a LCC27 fitting then you are introducing another possible source for leaks. Also this suggests that your bottle is older and it would be wise to change it over for a newer bottle that accepts both fittings. The swap system does not care if the bottle is yours or belonging to some other swap brand. They are happy to have your business. You are not talking about a lot of extra money to swap the bottle over either. Additionally, if you want to keep the swapped bottle and then get it refilled instead of swapping it then you can do that. My recommendation is to go with the safer option and not use inline adaptors when there is a simpler and safer system available.

The pol fitting won't push the safety valve to release gas from new cylinders
@FormanddesignAu12 күн бұрын
Unfortunately the problem lies with the POL fitting not the LCC27 fitting (I’m assuming that you are Australian and referring to the LCC27 fitting. If not then ignore this video). The problem with the POL fittings is that not all the manufacturers are sticking to the design and there are variances. There is no variance with the LCC27 fittings

Can you get an adapter in case you're camping and forget ?
@FormanddesignAu6 ай бұрын
Instead of looking for and purchasing an adaptor, consider either buying or swapping your bottle. The new valve assemblies accommodate both POL and LCC27 fittings
@axelknutt5065Ай бұрын
Hi, yes you can get adaptors. I needed to go from the new LCC on the BBQ hose to an old POL cylinder. I got it off Amazon, about $16 I think.

Question to anyone here! I have an old tank, old valve system, its full, I bought an adapter for it, but my new grill hose conection only works on the new tanks. How I go about to use the lp gas that its in the old tank! Hate to waste it opening the valve to air it out. Finding an old grill and remove the hoses and install on the new grill, just to use the gas in the old tank?
@FormanddesignAu Жыл бұрын
The following comments are specific to AUSTRALIAN gas bottle systems only! The new LCC27 system on your new BBQ is safer than the older POL fittings. Also if you are using an older POL bottle it might be out of date and could be dangerous with prolonged use. You might be better off investigating gas bottle swapping systems through petrol stations and hardware stores. Check out this article from ELGAS www.elgas.com.au/disposal-recycling-lpg-gas-bottles-cylinders/

@@FormanddesignAu I understand all that you said! I just want to use the full tank that I have, not to waste the gas, than recycle the tank. I have the new ones, and use them on my new grill. Maybe I wasn't clear enough explaining my question. Thanks any way!

POL TO LCC27 adaptors are available too
@FormanddesignAu Жыл бұрын
Be warned that these adaptors do not provide the additional safety that the LCC27 bottle fitting provides. The safety valve is not included in the adaptors. Also if purchasing one of these adaptors make sure you are buying a POL to LCC27 adaptor and not the American QCC adaptors. It’s just a whole lot easier and safer to swap your bottle for an LCC27 bottle through one of the bottle swap outlets. They’ll happily swap your own bottle for one of theirs.

What the hell does "POL" and "LCC" stand for?

POL stands for “Prest-O-Lite” the name of the company that developed the fitting. LCC stands for “Leisure Cylinder Connection”.

Minor issue: If you are using an LCC bottle with a POL fitting, the POL fitting will NOT engage the internal valve in the LCC fitting. If some clever cloggs has opened the tap on the LCC bottle while it is detached the safety valve inside the LCC fitting will close. When you screw the POL fitting in, because it won'tnengage properly, the gas pressure behind the safety valve will keep it closed, meaning no gas will flow. The only way I have found around this is to make sure the tap is closed and force the internal valve open with a suitable rod of some type-it's high pressure, so it takes a good thump-preferably made of brass (sparks are a no-no). There will be a slight puff of released gas, and the POL can be attached and used normally. Then, replace all of your POL fittings with LCC ones 😉
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
If you find that "the POL fitting will NOT engage the internal valve in the LCC fitting" then chances are that your POL fitting is old and needs replacing. These things do not last forever and some older spec fittings are problematic. If you are trying to gerryrig something like this, then OBVIOUSLY something is wrong. If the POL fitting and the LCC27 fitting are in good working order then it should work as designed. My recommendation is to NOT fiddle with the safety valve. It's there for a reason. Figure out where the problem is and replace or fix the part that's faulty. Put simply, the new LCC27 fitting on the gas bottle in particular is a major safety improvement designed to reduce the risk of accidental gas bottle leaks and the consequences thereof.
@Clinton_Cann_MediaАй бұрын
They make an adaptor to use LCC27 fittings with Pol bottles on eBay but fat chance finding them in a place like Bunnings.
@FormanddesignAuАй бұрын
Adaptors are dangerous and illegal in most states. This is because the two threads work against each other. When you tighten one it is possible to loosen the other since one is CCW (POL) and the other is CW (LLC27). Also all the adaptors I’ve seen are POL to QCC which is slightly different to our (Australian) LCC27 fitting. The simpler thing is to swap out your bottle for one with the new fitting which safely accommodates both POL and LCC27 fittings.

So why is everyone selling gas burners with just a black hose.
@FormanddesignAu Жыл бұрын
"Everyone" might be an exaggeration. Firstly, I'm only talking about Australian standards. I hope that helps.

Be real careful with the new hose and old bottles. Had a kid attempt to connect the new hose and it sort of screwed onto the old bottle, could have ended real badly. Fortunately I checked it and realised something was wrong, I’d not seen the type of connection until then.

Pain in the ass, new appliane means new bottle as well
@FormanddesignAu Жыл бұрын
Not really. You'll get a safer bottle and you can simply swap your bottle (even if you own it, for a pre-filled and checked bottle) at a petrol station that uses Swap-n-Go or other bottle swap systems. It's hardly onerous and you don't have to wait around for someone to fill your bottle.

@FormanddesignAu28 күн бұрын
"Pressure vessel" is the over-riding name for this type of product. There are naming conventions that are usually associated with size, shape and usage. There are "gas cylinders" but the standard terminology used to describe this product is "Gas Bottle" (here in Australia anyway). It is also true that milk comes in "bottles".
