Bill Hickman, the very well known stuntman who appeared onscreen as the wheelman of the Charger in Bullitt, was following James Dean that day but was too far back to see the crash. If he had seen it, I'm sure that he would have been a very reliable eyewitness as to what really happened.

Ironically all three stars died tragically or violently . Curse ,maybe.

Rebel remains one of the most haunting films ever made. All three of them- Dean, Natalie, and Mineo- were outstanding! And all three met violent ends, which makes the scene in the abandoned house even spookier. God bless them all

Why does it even matter, his sexuality... Why do people want, need to know? James has been gone for so long now..whatever he did or didn't do is no longer valid..when people die..why is it people "talk" it had nothing to do with anyone except the ones James was with.

James Dean is the most criminally overrated human being in history, it's ridiculous. A lot of people that worked with him said he was weird, strange, impossible to work with and very insecure. Most of the cast of Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden, Jack Warner, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson never liked him at all and they knew him personally. I'm willing to bet all of you people wouldn't like him either, if you actually knew him and had to work with him.

I think he was so empty and insecure because of his mother's death. He thought he was undeserving and not good enough. Which is insane, because he was an amazing actor!

Seconds before the fatal crash, Dean overtook and passed, at high speed, John Robert White's car (both were travelling west). And in the same manuever of passing White's car Dean ran Cliff Horde's car (travelling east) off the road and into a fence. Horde said he had to do this to avoid hitting Dean head-on in Horde's east-bound lane. Dean then pulled back into the west-bound lane and crashed with Turnupseed. There's also testimony from Tom Frederick who was just passing Turnupseed on the right, and at the time of the accident!

His face was NOT mutilated! Years ago a friend showed me a photo of Dean on a gurney (shortly upon arrival in the ER) with a blanket half way up his chest; it showed his beautiful face lying peacefully as if sleeping, the only sign of trauma bits of glass still embedded in his face.

Very sad ending of an extraordinary young man with so much promise and immense talent. Dean had so much more to give. It is almost as if he felt like he had to rush life and live fast because he somehow knew life was short for him. Tragic. If he were alive today, he'd be 93 years old.
