Robespierre was not a virtuous man. He was a man against God, a man whose truth came from no higher than the sound of his words. Murder and terror was the only justice natural to his religion of mankind whose joy is in their divorce from God.

Why do some of these series insist on having annoying and loud music over the narration? I just find it so off putting, when I studied history my tutors did'n't play loud music while lisping the narrative. Please deck the music!

There’s some sort of poetic irony of the man who disliked the death penalty would use it the most….and be the last it’s used on in his reign of terror .

It was after they suppressed and did away with the violent lunatics, starting with the eradication of Robespierre and his crew, that the French Revolution began to assume a sense of sanity. After Robespierre was dispatched they then moved against " Robespierre's Tail ', in 1795, those being those who conducted and instigated the Terror. Many were brought to account and there occurred a " White Terror " whereby the perpetrators of the Terror were rounded up and many beaten and massacred.

I always thought only in our chinese history classes is he discribed as one of the worst dictators.I guess anywhere else does not get any better .Maybe the Thermidorians are too powerfull. After hundreds of hours of studing,I realized just how small the number of people who really know Robespierre's real personality and history. But no matter what,I'll keep remember him as one of the greatest freedom fighters in history, even the only place I can do that is down in the sewers of Paris......🥲

The French Revolution was an opportunity, for want of a better word, for the Neo Liberals to surface. A direct line can be drawn globally from this event to the WEF and other dark forces of the early 21st century.

The fact that the Gauls had fortified cities with stone walls totally explains why Julius Caesar had to rely on diversion to conquer Alesia. Sure, the Romans had siege equipment, but building those took time, which Caesar didn't have. So he lured the main Gaul army away from Alesia, buying himself time to choke the city, forcing Vercingetorix to surrender.

Another bittersweet tale of a tortured & poverty struck genius & pioneer. Its all too familiar. Its not until they die that their work becomes fully appreciated & valuable. The real issue is that great artists are not usually great businessmen. So they dont know how to best profit from their creations. This is where the likes of Edison excelled. He was also a genius businessman. But as an inventor its hard to be sure he truly invented anything knowing he stole so much from unknown artists.

You forgot to add that Maurice Talleyrand (before he resigned as the Bishop of Autun) at the beginning of the French Revolution -- prior to the Reign of Terror -- proposed that the National Assembly ask England jointly with France to adopt the metric system. He even went to England to push this idea which was ahead of its time.
