Awesome footage! I’m appreciating these old wooden works of art more and more. I’m over here in Minnesota. It’s curious if you get any calls from Mahogany Bay? As you can probably tell. It’s a little wood boat restoration shop out west of Minneapolis. Wondering if you’ve had to find the impossible part of a restoration. Maybe y’all did some horse trading? For all I know, you might have been doing business with each other for the last twenty years. I do t think that the wooden boat enthusiasts world is that big. You’d almost have to run across one another sooner or later.

The Boat with the Reg number NY 3861 AS is "The Arc" and belongs to Jim from Grenell Island. The boat was built by Fry in Clayton more then 100 years ago. The Antique Boat Museum in Clayton own the sister boat "Shadow" which is on Display at the Doebler Storage. Body line drwawings of the Shadow can be obtained from the Museums Online archive . The video also shows Boldt's Castle and boat house. Boat Number 3 in the boat house is one of 19 built "number boats"

Most old wooden boats are well cared for until they are handed over to the next generation of custodians. This process continues the heritage, and also keeps the knowledge and skills of boat building alive. Without doubt, the world is a nicer place with these wooden wonders on the water! 😉

Well I gotta give it to ya guys. I watch absolutely zero tell lie vision so whatever viddy yo stimulation i receive, i get off of YT or Epoch TV, Rumble, etc. That said; to stumble across this channel and spend an hour looking at some of the baddest water sleds from decades before fibreglass trees of which i used to own two the latter being a 1973 Ski Nautique. Sure miss laying down on my slalom skis on her and wakeboarding to1o. Her name was "Emotional Rescue" and I'd love to know if she's still out there somewhere in reverse rotation, confusing the hell out of her newest lion tamer?😅

Don't buy a wood boat.... I have owned many of them.. The biggest was a 106 schooner, (1918) and a 45 ft 1964 Huckins Fairform Flyer.. And have run many... Boatyards also will not haul old wooden boats...
@mahoganyandchromeshow4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Everyone has a unique experience with wood boats. Most of our content and audience are focused on run-abouts and small cruisers that are handled, preserved or restored much easier than the big boys with which you have experience.

I see a Philbrick boat in the pictures. We had one, I was glad when we got rid of it. Our Glidercraft V-drive was a much better boat. My dad sold it when I went to Vietnam. I wish he had kept it.

How about an article on Clearlake California, specifically upper lake. Thats where the racing was in Nor Cal. Actually guys came up from LA to race there. We used to stay in Soda Bay, but since the racing was either in Nice or Lakeport we eventually moved to Lakeport with the boats. When I was a kid we had exclusive use of Pigs beach. It was a great place to teach waterskiing. Sandy bottom shallow enough tha you would beach your boat 20 ft from shore and wade to the beach with your blankets and coolers. Being that the ski club was involved in racing it was important to have a good place to teach. Chuck Sterns learned to ski the same day thst I did. I was a late bloomer. Most kids in the club could ski by the time they started grammar school, 6 to 8 yrs old. I didn't learn until I was 12. I should say that I already knew how, just hadn't done it yet. At this point its been years and I am getting nostalgic.

Poor guy had no chance deep water start with a modern thin slalom ski 😂 my dad use to ski behind a 1956 16’ Lyman I believe but it definitely has the old brown cover 35hp Johnson motor with skis he made himself which I still have. He was 180lb at that time and he would drag quite awhile before getting up. That was 1969 😇

I was 11 years old staying at my uncle’s place on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. One of his friends drove a 6 cylinder Chris Craft wide open past our dock. Still remember the growl of that motor and the shiny wood. That was 61 years ago. I was hooked on wooden speed boats from then on. Thanks for this tremendous video.

We're hooked! Oh wait, we already were. We especially love the "gray boats" that we find, weathered beyond most folks recognition, the ones that were waiting for a ride to the landfill. It's rewarding to restore them and return them to their natural habitat. Great video, nice job weaving the history in with the restoration. Huzzah!
