I have a baby snapping turtle. She has a habitat but doesn't like to get in the water much I have a 10 gallon tank I want to move her into, but I'm hesitant because she doesn't get in the water. Any recommendations? Thank you.
@spicywaterproductions3 жыл бұрын
Definitely get a bigger tank, water should be around 75-85 f and start it off on worms or pinkie mice and see if you can get her to swim up to you

Be prepared to need a custom enclosure i have a 1 year old frilled dragon from papa new g and he's going into a 5ft wide by 6ft high enclosure tomorrow because he's out grown his 4ft by 4ft and I only have one frilled 😃. You definitely need more vertical things for them to climb on they spend most time in the trees as they are abroeal and will need misting to keep the humidity between 50-70% Nice baby's though.

does he hunt the guppies on his own..? mine is eating feeders but only from tweezers...
@spicywaterproductions4 жыл бұрын
Yeah he hunts down the guppies by himself sometimes but that was more or less when I forgot to feed him for a day or two or he just wanted a midnight snack or something but the guppies were kind of in there to keep ammonia levels and nitrides and nitrate levels in the pond consistent so I could have a nice little ecosystem going on but he did eat them on his own and we did end up feeding him a shiner fish with tweezers and he took him out of the tweezers as well he knew how to hunt and hand feed he was really good about that it's just on training like if you want him to hunt add fish in there that they might be there for a while but he'll find them and he'll get them and fish that are not faster than him so like little Molly's platters guppies anything like that will be perfect crawfish any type of crustacean and then mice fuzzies pinkies things like that very up the diet so that way he's not consistently eating the same thing over and over that way his shell forms correctly and gets all the vitamins he needs and make sure you have proper lighting too as well that really matters calcium levels really matter because their shell is made out of the same thing that your fingernails are made out of so just like the way you take care of your hands take care of the Shell the way you would your hands

@@spicywaterproductions yeah theres tiny crayfish in there and ive got some freeze dried shrimp also for an occasional treat. ive been getting feeder minnows (not goldies) but i believe they are too fast like you said... plus hes easily spooked for some reason, he was just hatched and almost dead when i found him but hes a lively little booger now.... Also ive got the double light setup for UVB and basking, which he doesnt bask...
@spicywaterproductions4 жыл бұрын
Your tank sounds good, and as far as your turtle being spooked they will be that way as hatchlings but as they get older and see you more they will recognize who you are that's what is cool about turtles in general and your doing good on not giving goldie's, the more you interact with it the more social it will be, and look into giving it (pinkies) baby mice that will have more protein in your turtle than just fish, I fed my snapping Pinkie's everyday, I would give him one pinkie in the morning and whatever her didn't finish take out and one at night and did the same process, but give him time and he will get more social and work with him a lot snapping turtles are smart
@spicywaterproductions4 жыл бұрын
And as far as basking it good to have the light but snapping turtles rarely come out of water but provide a basking spot as well as a heater for the water, keep the water between 87°-89°f that should make your turtle more active

Heat rocks are not good or safe they dont heat up right even when plugged into a thermostat it wont because it's just a few randomly placed wire ends running through it it gets too hot n burns animals. Nice video though the dragons are cool
@spicywaterproductions4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I would have to agree with you on the heat rock that's why I go with a lower watts so if it does endup burning up it's not to hot for the reptiles, I try to keep it on for only 3-4 hours of the day then let it cool down, there's other methods of heating and I found the rock is just the cheapest thing for me
