Good work and excellent explanation Edwin. I wish we could convince landowners that digging out gravel is damaging and only destabilises rivers further. This is exactly the sort of approach that we encourage but sadly, find resistance to. Keep up the good work.

How do you prevent the trees in the river from getting washed down in floods after all there just sitting there on river bed

Seamus, thanks for the question. We use machinery to bury the trunks into the river bank. So while it looks as though the root plates are just sitting there, they are well dug in.

Excellent work. Having watched Mergansers chasing Smolts on the Nith maybe our rivers need strategically placed safe haven cages for smolts to retreat to when in danger. I think various types of bird prey are mopping them up before they leave the river.
