Epic setup!! I am curious, as I may possibly endeavor on a similar project of my own one day, what type of bearing you may have used for the tilt axis? I don't see any holes in the aluminum, so I am curious how you secured the bearing in place. Thanks in advance, Laszlo Folgerts from the Netherlands

Where did you get the gear for your system? i am looking for 5mm bore gear to take a 200 step 1.8 stepper to give a clean 360 Degre at 1 or even .5 degree of motion. still trying to figure out the gear tooth and size.

+Daniel Looper, Thank you for checking out my pan & tilt head. I get my gears from servocity.com, I don't notice any 5mm bore gear. I use DC geared motor, I don't know much about stepper motor. I see a lot of 5mm pinion in Amazon & Ebay, but not large gear.

I think you used servo motor? Because if using DC motor is in the free state when it can not be re-clamping spindle.

Might be using a worm gear internally - which helps with very low RPM and also locking gears into position - preventing slip...

Hello Sethy Jean, Compliments of the season. It's now been two years since you've posted this video but I've just come across it. First I'll like to say very good job, well done. Second, I'll like to ask you and the community why are pan and tilt machines designed with servo motors ? I've been given a levelling project at uni and my first thought was stepper motors. But the more I research it the more I find that nobody has used stepper motors. Is there a reason apart from the lack of feedback from stepper motors. I like the joystick approach, I was tending to a app controller but I guess the joystick would be quicker and less of a learning curve. Lastly, is there any chance I could get the schematics and code from you, it will really help me on my way and my design.
