Brilliant design and it works well!!! - do like the attention on getting the camera to balance, something you don't usually see on these types of videos - well done :).

Hello Sethy Jean, Compliments of the season. It's now been two years since you've posted this video but I've just come across it. First I'll like to say very good job, well done. Second, I'll like to ask you and the community why are pan and tilt machines designed with servo motors ? I've been given a levelling project at uni and my first thought was stepper motors. But the more I research it the more I find that nobody has used stepper motors. Is there a reason apart from the lack of feedback from stepper motors. I like the joystick approach, I was tending to a app controller but I guess the joystick would be quicker and less of a learning curve. Lastly, is there any chance I could get the schematics and code from you, it will really help me on my way and my design.

From one engineer to obviously another " Great Project " ! At first I thought you might be parking your car on it ha ha. Nice fabrication and I like the way you can adjust things. I've been wanting to but just a single axis panning unit that can rotate a full 360 + degrees and run off of a battery where I can just switch it on and off, although having it variable speed ( 0.5 to 2 rpm ) would be a plus. Again, GREAT JOB !
@sethyjean360710 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!. If you wish to have just panning axis my recommendation is servocity.com. They have a gear motor gearbox for $60, motor not including, you can find a motor for less than $20, and you could get a controller from servocity.com called digital manual speed controller for $80.
@MonacoMike10 жыл бұрын
sethy Jean Thanks Sethy Jean, I've been trying to sort though all of the things Servo City has but for me it gets a little confusing because I don't know what parts will work together. I did find a belt driven panning unit they have but they want $160 for it and then I still have to buy a motor to drive it. ( www.servocity.com/html/super_duty_belt_drive_pan_syst.html#.VOHxQS7RU3g ). I could see that I would have over $200 invested in it before I was through. That's the concept I have in mind but would like to see if I could make something smaller. What did you see that was only $60 and $20 ?

sethy Jean Very interesting. I missed that one. I had zeroed in the the other belt driven unit. I wonder why this one is $100 cheaper? It looks like it could very easily be changed to a belt drive. I also hadn't noticed their video available so I watched them and now am concerned about the amount of noise. Do you know if the noise is coming out of the motor or the gears? That was one problem with the little music box panning unit I made. There was to much noise where I could use it at a dinner table situation and still be able to pick up conversations. What's your experience and thoughts about using something like these for what I'm wanting to do? After looking around some more this one has possibilities also: www.servocity.com/html/ddp155_base_pan.html#.VOLLjy7RU3g but it also sounds a little noisy. Do you think they could be put inside of another enclosure with a longer shaft to mount the turntable on the outside to quiet it down? I didn't see any dimensions of the one you sent me a link for.
@sethyjean360710 жыл бұрын
MrGrunthunter's Adventures The noise comes only from the motor. It's not loud to mess up your work, but it's not silent. They usually use those to show nice clips using other audio source. It may not be the best for quiet conversations, unless the conversation is loud enough to cover the motor noise.

Epic setup!! I am curious, as I may possibly endeavor on a similar project of my own one day, what type of bearing you may have used for the tilt axis? I don't see any holes in the aluminum, so I am curious how you secured the bearing in place. Thanks in advance, Laszlo Folgerts from the Netherlands

Hello again , what tipe of motor do you use on this project ? Can you provide me the information about the motors how many rpm size ...
@sethyjean360710 жыл бұрын
I use 12 Volt DC Geared Motor 37mm (Brushed) 6mm shaft. The speeds vary. I use low RPM such as 2 to 5 RPM. The type of camera I use get blurred when moving too fast anyway. The slowest the speed is the more steady, the stronger, and the quieter it is. But you can go up to about 35 rpm even 70, or 100 rpm if you are doing fast movement in dancing, sport type of filming, blablabla… Copy and paste this and they all look like this in the top screwing surface. They are in ebay, amazon. They are cheap in china if you can wait for 1 month delivery (around $10 to $12 a piece). They are also in US for about $17 to $25. www.ebay.com/itm/12V-DC-8RPM-High-Torque-Gear-Box-Electric-Motor/330740356222?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27538%26meid%3Dba87ffc0a54f40daad272dbb8b70b33a%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D11353%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D181261006414&rt=nc

is there a reason why this setup is missing a speed controller? moves nice for pictures or cinematic footage but not for fast action follow ups t that speed, in addition is that stick on the remote acting as a encoder? i only noticed 2 wires coming out of the motors pwr & grd nice system tho, i use a smaller one for my air and ground robots
@sethyjean36079 жыл бұрын
Frank Lopez Thank you for watching my video. i wish I had a speed controller. I tried arduino using some ideas in KZbin, unfortunately it does not work for me. Beside, the Sony Camcorders I use don't handle speed well, the picture gets blury. I can also put a faster motor if I want to. This is the driver I use, brushed DC motor controller: www.servocity.com/html/18v7_simple_motor_controller__.html#.VW5QE875ndk

well what you need is to sever a connection between power ground and add a variable resistor in place (sorta like testing amp on a motor only that your will add a pot and a transistor. i think i email so check your box when ya get a chance i can send you the schematics

Where did you get the gear for your system? i am looking for 5mm bore gear to take a 200 step 1.8 stepper to give a clean 360 Degre at 1 or even .5 degree of motion. still trying to figure out the gear tooth and size.
@sethyjean36078 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Looper, Thank you for checking out my pan & tilt head. I get my gears from servocity.com, I don't notice any 5mm bore gear. I use DC geared motor, I don't know much about stepper motor. I see a lot of 5mm pinion in Amazon & Ebay, but not large gear.
@ochoixemay80618 жыл бұрын
I think you used servo motor? Because if using DC motor is in the free state when it can not be re-clamping spindle.
@davidflorey7 жыл бұрын
Might be using a worm gear internally - which helps with very low RPM and also locking gears into position - preventing slip...
