27,000 Boer women and children died in those concentration camps..imagine the size of the white population to day in south Africa if that evil had not occured...the Anc would not be in power...there would be 20million whites, not 3million

I heard that while in battle, if you heard the pipes approaching, you were going to be reinforced or going to die,, depended on which side of the line you stood.

I recently learned that my Scottish heritage on dad's side goes back before 1700; a forbear immigrated to the US in 1710. I already knew of mom's heritage, arriving here in 1790. Granddad served with the 82nd Airborne and made all 4 jumps in WWII. So I followed in his footsteps. Maybe the heritage is why I have always loved the sound of the pipes, since long before i learned about the connections; its genetic !

the great highland bagpipe is probably the LESS advanced bagpipe in the world. Galician gaita is way more advanced in register, different pitches, cromatism, etc.

A disgrace what the government has done to the best soldiers the world has ever seen, it is nothing but a travesty that the government has reduced the scotish regiments to one regiment

As a (former) member of the Toronto Scottish, I must say I'm sad to see our sister regiment folded into the Londons, but at the same time I am pleased and proud to see that they are as ready as ever. Carry On, Londons!

As an American, I grew up going to Highland Games and listened to the pipes, I told myself that I would join a pipe band and learn the pipes, and I started learning in 2018 and joined a pipe band in October of 2021.

I wonder if that was the woman royal army corps band participating it? Like I kinda heard the commentator saying that there were few TA regiments and probably the girl in the massed bands is probably from the WRAC.

Very interesting, my father Cpl Alec Mitchell was a piper in the Black Watch and was asked if he would mind transferring to the Royal Scots as they were short of a piper. This he did and a couple of weeks later he heard that his former Reginement had been deployed to Korea. I think he was pleased not to have been involved.

Awesome to see. Back in the days where there where many regiments. Same here in Denmark. We had around 10 infantry regiments in 1977, now we have 2, the foot guards and a newly rebuildt light infantry.

Hallo ! Very nice tunes and fantastic playing! I dont know if you can help but i will try. A long time ago and i cannot say for sure when, it must have been between !976 and 1980 but even that is not sure I saw on tv pipe bands playing in a stadium. They started really slow and were getting faster til they were playing reels and they were runnig at the same time! I even dont know wich stadium this has been or in wich country this was. I know this is not a lot and its a long time ago but does anybody knows anything about it and can give me a hint whre I can find a recording or anything of that kind? Best whishes from the harz mountains Uwe

We are not sure of the unit who runs and plays at the same tine would be. The Italian light infantry called the Bersaglieri are a great sight as they run and play a variety of trumpets and horns. The fastest pace in the British Army is 140 to the minute, which the bands of the Light Division played during the period you mentioned.

I am in my 70s. I am a mix of every country in western Europe not especially Scotland . I live in Arizona, USA all my life never went any where bagpipes were common. But when I first heard bagpipes I was enthralled and have been ever since. This program says north America has its own pipers. Too late for me to attend in person but God bless pipers wherever they are.
