My father was a flamenco guitarist. He passed away 2 months ago after struggling with Alzheimer's disease. He really loved Paco Pena and especially this duet. He was in a coma in his last few days. A few hours before he passed away, I played this for him. Amazingly he held my hand and had tears in his eyes. Right then I decided to fly all the way to Dublin to see the maestro playing this exact Farruca part with his companion. It made me so happy and thankful that I had a chance to watch the maestro playing this live ❤

I recorded this majestic performance from the TV onto a cassette. I then attempted to work it out by lots of listening and desperately trying to remember how he did it. I achieved some success, considering…

Don't really like this, it's too 'text book' (probably William's fault) and not organic enough for flamenco.

Who used to dress Williams in this period? He could have done with an image advisor as also his mannerisms, whilst playing the guitar, come across as are a bit arrogant and pompous.

One of the first videos I watched in KZbin when I was a young kid, back in 2010/2011. Back then, there were really not many classical guitar videos on the platform, and most came from old VHS tapes like this one. I also remember very distinctly listening to a concert of John Williams playing La Catedral, Asturias on a TV set, and Sabicas malagueña in black and white. This played a role in creating my musical identity :)

People go on about people like Mark Knopfler and Pete Townshend being guitar heros but these classical guitar players are on a different level and Williams is the most complete of the lot: probably greatest technically of all time.
