This design is a fire tube boiler. The tube contains hot air that heats up the water in the vessel which generates the steam. The smoke is most probably from burning of the fuel e.g. coal which flows through the tubes and passes through the economizer.

The boiler contains a large cone inside, surrounded by spiral rods, and cover with insulation layers. Those black rods you see penerating inside are called spiral rods. The burner supplies fire to heat the rods at a higher maximum temperature to produce steam. During the operation, all the valves safty 1&2 are closed,includingsteam value. When the steam is read to transfer through is line it open and the steam goes to another pot which is full of CRUDE. Crude is a waste product from an oil manufacturer. It then refined with different steps in chemical company, finally produced glycerin. Glycerin is used to mix (ANY) type of soap or gel any liquid. Infant is used to mix some of our drinks and beverages we consume daily. Glycerin is colorless, and little beat sticks in hand. I love working with this type of boiler. I can dismantle it and assemble it back.

You see to the right that’s actually smoke going out the chimney system and the steam is actually being caused by the heat of those fire tubes … if the water level is too high tho you’ll get water going through the pipes instead of steam and if the water was too low .. well… I don’t think I need to tell you how bad that can be 😂 aha but nah I can see where you might have gotten confused but no that’s smoke being expelled through the roof and the steam is contained inside the boiler itself and then automatically released through the main valve up top
