When I do my Katas fast it's typically to hide my mistakes with dynamic movement and explosiveness... But I can see how a kata like this might require speed... My senpai is always telling me, you should be able to do the kata slow as well.

50/50 half of this seemed worthless and would get someone in real trouble if it gave them the confidence to defend themselves and not to just run away as fast as they can. The only guys Jo kata was horrible and I could see very little real life application for it.
