Hi Tanya, I've just started making this top in black polka dot Georgette fabric. I was looking for some tips when making it. I like the tip of sewing the edges first it does make sense. I've gotten back into machine sewing after a break of many years. I've always hand sewn as I'm petite I shorten all my clothes and done embroidery. I went to a bunting workshop and have made pouches and drawstring bags just so I got used to using the machine. I knit and have gotten back into this after joining a knit n natter group at my library. Thank you for the tips.❤❤❤

Love the shirt fabric. I've made three or four shirts lately, for me and hubby, different patterns (big 4 and indie) and the collars are a struggle every time. It makes me think I've cut the wrong size collar or stand. I've managed it in the end by easing, snipping and lots of pins.

Thanks for sharing all your pretty things! I like those overalls! I believe embroidery floss is mercerized, which would keep it from absorbing dye. I love the look! (also, btw, any updates on PDF patterns should be sent to everyone who's purchased them!) I got the Kalle quite a long time ago and just haven't gotten around to it. The Deer and Doe Melilot has the same kind of hidden placket that that was giving people fits, too 😉I kind of worked it out myself, but I did know what the finished arrangement was going to be. There must be something about that step that's hard to explain haha. I think collar bands are always that way to make sure we have to really work for it! 😆😆 I remember giving up on a men's shirt collar - sometime in the 80's and to be fair, it was after 11 p.m. - in the morning I picked it up and it fit perfectly!? Happy sewing!

@@lynngates1662 These patterns do test us sometimes don't they! I love how that collar band has stayed in your mind but how frustrating that the next morning it behaved itself. The sewing pixies must have been up to their usual tricks that night!
@dorothymarquis5738Ай бұрын
Re the placket and the collar. I have not used any indie patterns so I don't know what type of pattern markings are used. The placket should be clearly marked with both fold lines and stitching lines. Transfer these lines to your fabric and use them to fold and stitch. The collar too should be marked with dots and notches. These will indicate where the collar attaches to the shoulders and where the collar edges are attached to the front centre lines. Be careful not to attach the narrower part of the collar to the neckline. Re the facings - always zigzag the edges of all pieces - even those which will be encased within two pieces of fabric, eg. the neckline edge of a facing, inside a yoke or the binding.
@justletmesewАй бұрын
@@dorothymarquis5738 Thank you for all those tips, you have a wealth of knowledge. I will zig zag even hidden edges from now on.
@loisg2316Ай бұрын
A few thoughts on your Ogden cami. I have never had the issues you have had. Instead of clipping underarms you could try neatening the seam by using pinking shears. Much easier and safer then clipping if you are worried about snipping into your seam line. Do you hem your lining? It would stop fraying. Another idea is to add elastic to make the lining into a shelf bra. Finally I have lengthened the lining to make the cami reversible. Great summer makes ❤

What lovely makes! Love your colourful choices of fabric, but also the charcole jumpsuit! The embroidery was lovely, such a nice personal detail. The fuschia pink fabric is stunning, I have never seen anything like it, you will look amazing in it! As you held it in front of you I think it went very well with the jumpsuit you were wearing. 💞 My tip on the Calle shirt collar is to just cut it shorter next time. I wouldn’t struggle like that if I came across an issue with a pattern. I often make shortcuts after my own head as I have years of experience, maybe more than the pattern constuctor 😉 Another tip I have when you are trying out a new pattern - measure your tried and true patterns and compare the width, length and so on. You can also measure your RTW clothes that fit well and compare with the pattern pieces.

can I suggest that you teach us what an afternoon tea is? I have never seen the real thing (growing up across the pond), where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner/suppers. My exposure to “teas” apart from the beverage are only what I have seen on fictional tv shows and occurs only in England. It looks like it is a snack event or is it a meal? Do people dress up , and is this anything that is still part of daily life? Over here the tea taxes in the 1700’s and The Boston Tea Party sealed the fate of tea here as being less than desired or even unpatriotic. It has taken over 200 years for tea sales here to recover and when folks prefer tea over coffee they are viewed with suspicion. 😉 I do like a nice hot tea with lemon and honey and the occasional herbal tea but the event itself is a mystery.
