Thank you. This was helpful. I was afraid I would have to take the whole shaft out of the top.

I am not able to do that at the moment, but essentially you need to SLIGHTLY loosen the two set screws on the vertical gear under the hook assembly, at the far left end of the drive shaft. Move the gear to the left so that it disengages from the horizontal gear that it is meshed with (don't take it all the way off). Turn the hook with your fingers to the correct spot in relation to the needle while the needle is moving in its upstroke (1.5 mm above the top of the eye of the needle). Then move the vertical back to mesh with the horizontal gear and tighten the set screws. Check that the timing is correct by turning the hand wheel back and forth. If not, try again. Note that one of the two set screws on the vertical gear is tightened down on a flat spot on the drive shaft. That is why it is important to only slightly loosen the set screws.

From what I've read, with the thread take up lever in the highest position, the bottom of the presser foot (the foot the needle goes through) should be level with the top of the walking/feeding foot or slightly below the top of the walking/feeding foot. In a video for another walking foot machine, see how the height of the presser foot compares to the walking foot kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHfSZoKvd8qMjNk
