Hey I have a dumb question. But since I don't know I'll ask. When regearing a Jeep tj do you change gears in both axels or just the rear one.
@ElevatedJeepsКүн бұрын
There are no dumb questions my friend! Yes, ultimately you need to do both the front and the rear so they match. If you change one and not the other and then put it in 4wd, you’ll grenade the transfer case as it will be trying to turn the outputs at a different speed when they driven off a chain. Now, you can do them one at a time - say to save money or what have you. You’d just have to take out the front driveshaft as to be sure not to use 4wd. Hope that helps! Thanks for your question! Take care!

Have a weird hum at 30mph in my 99 xj. Sounds like maybe something rotational and in the rear. Any thoughts? Wondering if it’s wheel bearings or some u joints out back.
@ElevatedJeeps11 күн бұрын
Is there any chance it's tires? Quick rotation just to rule it out. Shake the pinion back and forth and see if you can move it in and out. Check for leaks at the pinion and each axle end.(that may be a sign in itself) Shake the driveshaft and inspect the U joints to see if they are dry.(rusty dust looking stuff) Lastly, pull the cover and inspect - is there metallic in the fluid, does the carrier move around at all? That's all I have! Hopefully it is something super simple! Take care!

I’d love to know more about your wheel setup, are you running a JK axle or TJ to JK wheel adapters? I’m on the fence about the conversion keeping the factory D30, or building something bigger and putting the money into different wheels.
@ElevatedJeeps17 күн бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your comment! I'm running spidertrax TJ to JK wheels. What size tires are you running? I'd feel more than comfortable running 35's on a beefed up 30 - shoot, I was going to mega build a 30 and run 37's on this very LJ until I found a Rubi44 front axle. For right now, I am technically just 2wd. Even in this video the 30 was present, but there wasn't a driveshaft due to different gearsets. Also curious what gears you're running. Take care my friend!
@JeepLJ317 күн бұрын
@@ElevatedJeeps 35's, with 5.13's, it works really well. Id love to run JL or JK wheel offerings, but my state doesn't allow wheel adapters, I can do the WJ knuckle swap, spacers, and JK hubs to get me the corrected bolt pattern, but its a bit of money to drop into a Dana 30, and ideally I'd like to build a hybrid 9in/44 as I have a spare front 44 floating around.
@ElevatedJeeps17 күн бұрын
@@JeepLJ3 Oh, I now see your predicament! Taking into consideration your rear - whether you have a dual bolt pattern aftermarket shaft - I feel like building this hybrid deal makes the most sense? WJ hubs I suspect is the most economical.. There are JK axles too.. Ugh. Good luck! That's tough!

Why did Jeep use 3.07 gears. And can you do light trail wheeling with them ?
@ElevatedJeeps23 күн бұрын
Hi there, thank you for your comment Raymond! My assumption is that they were made for fuel economy reasons. Yes, you can absolutely wheel with them! The bigger tires you put on the Jeep will make it that more sluggish, both on road and off. While it may be underpowered, 4 low could be used to your advantage for either slower technical stuff, or if you need a bit more wheel speed than 4 high can provide. Hope that helps you! Take care!
