I started out in FL Studio, but since 2022, I have mostly been using Ableton and Logic. I have thought about giving Cubase a try as well.

I blame you if you don't know Realplayer. You should! That was OG internet video.. If you weren't a kid who marveled at the fact that FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER you could watch video on your personal computer from anywhere in the world - I feel sorry for you.. I have such fond memories of that player and a lot of the standup clips, seinfeld and tv show clips, maybe will and grace, the simpsons even, and even early cnet reviews I'd watch on there as well. KZbin wouldn't exist without products like realplayer before them, so we should all appreciate that this now grown ass adult thought RealPlayer was REALLY COOL back in the day because of what it meant for the future - and it's pretty much played out exactly as he'd thought - yeah..

His playing has influenced me as much as Robert Fripp, Fred Frith, John Fahey, or Michael hedges. Even Allan Holdsworth is only half as mesmerizing as Jandek. I’m getting ready to do a collaboration with a woman who has worked with him. I mean, I really want to collaborate with this person because of who they are but the fact that she has played with Jandek is truly the icing on the cake. I’ve been slightly obsessed with his work since the 1980s.

Yo tengo 9 DAW con licencia comprada, pero he escogido a Bitwig como DAW principal por su entorno de trabajo y ahora con la V 5.2 dio un home run con las bases llenas!

Takes ahalf an hour to het the shortcuts cycle, d for fevice, m for mixer, a for arranger blah blah, play with shift, tab, shift tab, and another monitor. Get into the grid. Bitwig is ze shit. We’re in 2024, all other daws are from 1990.

I can't believe you didn't mention one of the most important reasons people start using Reaper: Kenny Gioia's REAPER tutorials. I would never have purchased Reaper without his excellent videos. He's the best tutor I've ever had.

I wanted to make Naruto AMVs and parodies so I started my video editing journey with Sony Vegas Pro 11. It tended to be clunky but I loved it. Version 15 was a crash machine. A crash could occur at any time but particularly when opening the render window. I once lost both my original project file and its copy. Truly a remarkable piece of software, it always had surprises in store for me. I was reluctant to ever switch to Premiere Pro but eventually I gave it a go. Premiere Pro had a more rigid, professional workflow and could get the job done. But I missed the simplicity and beginner-friendliness that Vegas offered. In Vegas, I could just launch the application and start dragging my files into the timeline and I would see the audio waveform right away. It made me feel at home. In Premiere, before you can start doing anything, you are prompted to set up your project, specify the format, select save location etc. And then you have a timeline divided into audio and video sections where your clips are displayed as solid blocks. Also what pushed me away from Premiere was the lack of preview of effects; Vegas had that memorable eye thumbnail which showed you what each effect/transition did. My experience was that Vegas had less UI clutter, less quirks, more audio fx to choose, and made it quicker and easier for me to experiment.

If you want a real trip down memory lane, look into Opcode Systems (made probably the best MIDI sequencer for the Mac) who was Digi's next door neighbor. Very interesting stories there. Especially since in 1990 Opcode released "Studio Vision" which was a full featured MIDI sequencer and when paired with Digi's audio hardware could use the built in multi-track audio features....a full year before ProTools was released....The story of their journey is interesting, what happened to them, where ex-Opcode people are now, and the software we can thank them for that's in use today....Hint, some of them work for Apple now.

I began using Cakewalk in 1987 or 1988. Cakewalk ran great on my Kaypro 2000 laptop with Korg DS-8 keyboard. I can't believe I was at the very beginning of all the MIDI sequencer technology! How did I afford a Kaypro 2000 and Korg DS-8 in the late 1980s?

It's funny because in my state at Malaysia still think that all of our local artist didn't even use autotune on their vocals. Hahaha! But autotune is one of my top plugins on the go for mixing singing vocal and melodic rap vocal.

So i have used reason since v1. These days I vomit at even the thought of using reason as a standalone DAW. It's ok for simple arrangments but any thing larger and its a nightmare to use. I rarely use it these days and when I do its always as a plugin in other DAWs. To me this company and this DAW died many years ago and its just a slow burn now. Its so far behind modern DAW interms of workflow and features that they will never catch up.

I think there are quite a few KZbinrs still using Vegas to edit their videos. But it seems like most KZbinrs use Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut. Heck, some even use DaVinci Resolve.

Aboutca decade ago there used to be this Transhumanist nutta called Mat, a teacher at Access To Music Brighton, he was very active on the REAPER forum (yet he never contributed in anyway to reaper but spoke like he owned it), he'd write long rants about interfacing DAWs with human brains, getting rid of all hardware (including midi controllers) and argue with absolutely everyone, absolute knutjob he was, unfortunately he convinced some of the students to join his (what was basically a) cult at the time. Anyone know what ever happened to him?
