I'm working on a flatbed camper for my double cab 1st gen Tundra as well! I had a 2006 and rolled it on black ice over the weekend but was able to pick up a 2004 from someone locally the next day. I picked up an aluminum flatbed off FB marketplace so decided to build the camper out of aluminum to match the bed + gives me an excuse to learn to weld aluminum. I'll be following along your build!
@Socaladv5 сағат бұрын
What a rollercoaster. Glad you found a new one. I was tempted to do aluminum for the weight, but the cost is significantly higher. It will be fun to contrast the two when we both have campers!

You mentioned throwing bags on for when you've got a buncha weight in the back causing sagging, I'd make sure you aren't exceeding the weight limit of your axle. Can have all the "sag prevention" in the world, but it won't mean squat(heh) if it's too much for your axle.
@SocaladvКүн бұрын
Absolutely agree. The truck rated payload is 1800lbs. I’m aiming for less than 1000lbs once the camper is on it. But if we need to upgrade, l will cross that bridge when we get to it. I don’t want to over beef the back before I know what the camper weighs in at.
@SocaladvКүн бұрын
But even now with 600lbs of moto in the truck it sags so the airbags will get me back to ride height and keep my headlights out of folks eyes 🤣

I would add some expanded metal or something to protect the back of your cab, also I’d probably weld some tie down points on the bed sides. Great build
@SocaladvКүн бұрын
Absolutely agree. I added some tie down points just yesterday! I was still figuring it out. And agree on the cab protection too. Just not sure if I wanted to do expanded metal / diamond plate / or just more sheet steel. Expanded is probably the best option though!

How do you like the Alpinestars Halo Drystar jacket? I'm considering one!

It’s a great jacket. My two complaints would be the weight and the left handed zipper. But I’ve been wearing it on all my adventures for the last two years. Solid jacket for sure
@Spiritball21Ай бұрын
What do you like about the gear you wear while riding? Would you recommend the riding jacket?
@SocaladvАй бұрын
I couldn’t say enough good things about Mosko moto (woodsman pant) the jacket is Alpine stars and it’s great but it’s a little heavy. It does have a lot of features which is what drew me to it. If I could re buy, I would get a jacket with no armor and wear some armor under it, like a chest protector etc. For boots I love my alpine stars tech 7s and 10s (7s when I might be walking a lot, 10s when I want the most protection)
