Wow what a fantastic overview - I pair a Scotch or Rye with a cigar on Saturday - was shopping with my wife and tried this (bought a bottle for tomorrows cigar) and agree with your assessment entirely. Beautifully done, I love your tasting style and approach!

Glad you think so. We make it every year. But the whisky has to be one that is nice and peaty. Goes with the cranberries so well. And great with a cheese board if you have any left.

Good evening, first time I've seen your channel. I bought this today so thought I'd peruse the interweb. I watch a lot of different whisky channels and have been drinking whisky for nearly 40 years but only tasting it for about 15😋 but I don't taste all these fantastic flavours that others say😢🙄🤔🤷♂️

Wonderful review as always, just in time for Christmas. This looks like the perfect tipple before a walk with the dog along the Thames path. I enjoyed the Redbreast Port cask so at this price this looks like a great value alternative. Merry Christmas

Thanks for your comment. This video was over four years ago during Covid, when we just started doing these and was recorded in a laptop. We have now upgraded to a GoPro camera and while not perfect, it is much better for picture quality and sound.

Great review very knowledgeable tasting notes. Just opened a bottle myself and like you say a very good introduction to the world of whisky at a competitive price. Ideal gift for a new whisky fan. Overpriced garbage imo. Tried this around a friend's house last week. So many better Rye's out there for half the price. I would suggest dont waste your money and buy a bottle of Sagamore Double Oak Rye instead.

Advertised as "friendship no. 1", I remember watching the ads on tv when i was a kid later the government banned advertisement of liquor and other intoxicating substances in all form (to respect Gandhian principle) Those ads were creative, sometimes very funny Thankyou for your kind words for this whisky, the younger generation do not like to drink it cuz not only it is the highest selling one but also the cheapest and drinking is a kind of a social status thing (if you drink cheap, you are cheap)

I really struggle with these celebrity whisk(e)ys, and other various types of liquor or wines. So much of the selling point is tied into touting some famous name or other so they can charge premium prices for the product. Generally, I tend to avoid them. That being said, a couple of the Gretzky (CDN hockey player) whisky releases have been pretty good. This Sir Davis is not currently available in Canada at this time. Gelnmorangie was probably my first portal into 'proper' whisky too. A pity the lovely golden yellow colour isn't natural. But what would have been an even gutsier re-invention of the 'classic' would be to put it in an original style bottle and play on their envious heritage branding, rather than persisting with the hideous poncy packaging that assaults my eyes. Oh, a little higher ABV would be a result too. Currently £29 on Amazon, so I'm still going to buy a bottle.

Yes, the whole range is excellent and we love some of the finishes too. Easy to see why they are so award-winning. And Robert was great and had many stories from the last 50 years that he told during the evening. Was a privilege to talk with him.

What an achievement for Robert...50 years, still going strong. If I'd known then what I know now, this is an industry I would have loved to have worked in. I hope you had a chance to taste that wonderful (I'm sure) release. I have the 16, picked up years ago in Bermuda. It's a nice clean dram, and I enjoy it. We rarely see the brand here, unfortunately. I knew Tomintoul's location was a factor in determining the final product. We have a group in western Canada (Bearface) that elementally ages their casks in extreme weather conditions. He is a legend, but so understated and humble. It was fabulous to talk with him. The whisky was exquisite (yes, we did have chance to sample it later in the evening!) and listen to Robert talking about it some more. Glad you are well :)

Just picked up a bottle of the 12 in Arizona for 34 bucks. Most of the same notes but just a bit more intense. The Oak stands out quite a bit more for me compared to the 10.

Hi Matt, Thanks for this nice review. I stopped buying the Ardbeg special releases because of the price and for me there are to many "special" releases now. What I do is that I always try to get a sample. My sample is at home still waiting to be tasted after returning from my autumn holidays. Enjoying autumn in the Ardennes. Cheerio

For me it lacked a bit of oomph at 46% rather than the usual committee bottling strength. A bit underpowered but nice enough, although a little pricey for what it is.

It’s maybe a bit toppy in price but they have kept the price very similar for each of the five releases. We were surprised it wasn’t more on that basis 🤷🏻♂️🥃

Yes, Forest was our least favourite of the bunch. This is much more of a return to form of Cake and Winter 😊🥃

It’s classic Glenmorangie but dialled up a bit. Very creamy and luscious with plenty of vanilla, coconut and butterscotch. A nice pinch of spice in there too 😊🥃
