I've only sung a Bach chorale in high school, and that was difficult enough for me! As you said, there's always that unexpected leap. Are you doing the 3rd movement as well? (I tried to follow along casually, but I need like 2-3 breaths for every phrase!)

Your channel is an incredibly good finding, as I'm doing Mass service as an organist (actually it is a harmonium) and was trying to get some repertoire ideas that would fit well into the liturgy and these transcriptions you do are perfect. The Werckmeister temperament is one of the "well temperaments" from the Baroque Period. Buxtehude, the famous organist whom Bach visited when he was 20 years old, is known to have adopted it. We do not know for sure if Bach used this temperament, but we know that keyboard instruments during that time were not tuned to equal temperament.

I'm using "Werckmeister" on Yamaha CLP-785. (See faq.yamaha.com/sg/s/article/000002474 for the full list and description.) I don't have the ears to tell which subtype it is (there are 4 according to Wikipedia). Unfortunately, Yamaha customer support couldn't answer that question either...
