Prelude in B-flat minor, BWV 891 from Well-Tempered Clavier Book 2

Most of the pieces in Book 2 are not related to their counterpart in Book 1, but here we have an exception: the theme of the Prelude from Book 1 is turned into a countermelody in this trio. The lyrical and melancholic nature reminds me of an ancient poem by Li Yu 李煜 (937-978):
問君能有幾多愁？恰似一江春水向東流。
which I loosely translate as "My sorrow is like a river in spring, ever flowing toward the east."

I find it very interesting seeing how Bach revisits the idea of a WTC 20 years later, and how his preludes often get more complex. Both books are masterworks but you can see a change in Bach's compositions as he ages. Comparing the opening C major preludes is maybe the most obvious way of seeing this difference, but you can see it in B-flat minor as well. I think you can also see him evolving through comparing St. John's Passion and the Matthew Passion. In the Matthew Passion, Bach adds these halo effect-like strings any time Jesus speaks. It's like he is always finding some new meaningful way to compose and improve as he ages. Very well played!

虽然不知道具体的写作时期，但是还记得这一首第一次让我认同“第二卷比第一卷更成熟”的说法，第二卷中例如c# 和这首真的让人忘记这其实是三部创意曲，如此流畅……很孤独的曲子……话说什么时候弹第二卷的升c小调前奏曲呀:D
