And for one the lives here I would rather live in Spain or Italy in the winter and many Norwegians do when reaching senior age. But hey, our country sure looks beautiful all year around, but cold large parts of the year. :)

I haven't been to Italy in a while, but are there still jerks smoking nasty smelling cigarettes after they eat, which completely destroys the entire experience? Calling that a sacred ritual is pretty bold if that still happens.

As an American I find sandals with socks disgusting too and would suggest to the Italians they’re probably seeing Germans when they see someone doing this.

05:56 Oh, I like it very much when tourist ask "where polar bears at", but then the tourists shouldn't expect an honest answer in return. I like to tell people they should be aware when going out at night - and they usually seems to take this "advice" seriously. 06:48 Not such as thing as bad weather. That is simply not true. We do have severe winter storms (in the norhern parts at least) that is plain deadly (roads closed, cannot see more than 5 meters ahead, etc). Also the deadly risk of avalanche in snowy mountains that sadly causes some tourists to loose their life every year 😢

Aside from the archeological sites and some museums, there’s no sensible reason for spending more than three days in Rome. Three days are enough for sightseeing and visiting 3/4 museums. In past times - which ended about twenty years ago - there was a gastronomical side to Rome that made the stroking around, lingering in street side patios, sampling ice cream from innumerable gelaterias, enjoying a drink in Campo de Fiori, etc. Rome is no longer the atypically pleasant city it used to be. Overtourism is clearly a big issue that makes your days in Rome unpalatable. Local transportation is appalling: buses, trams and metro are supremely uncomfortable, rare, unclean and often also dangerous. Taxis are few and far between, as well as expensive (in the top rate bracket, on the European continent). Uber and similar platforms are virtually non-existent, because political favour and protection goes to the taxi highly privileged unions. In short, if you wish to visit Rome, plan well ahead. A good and well located hotel is a top priority. The Colosseum is not necessarily worth visiting (queues, scams, dirtiness, noise, etc. ). Try and spot 2/3 trattorias (not many of them have survived) in student areas. Same for gelato. Ignore the scammers rigidly (indifference, not politeness is the watchword) and you’ll avoid lots of troublesome situations. Never ever use ATM cash dispensers on the high street or in wide open public areas. Look for a bank agency and walk inside, to the ATM dispensers that are away from the street. Have some travel health insurance (or, in case of ailments, doctors will charge you extortionate rates, to be paid in cash). Finally, arrange a reasonable airport-city-airport transfer. If luggage allows, train or bus will prove much better then a taxi mob driver (they’ll drive aggressively, make excuses for extra pay, refuse the fixed price that should be applied, and their POS terminal will be off (tax elusion and tax evasion are a national sport, especially so among independent operators). Of course, have extreme care of your belongings.
