I own a Bachmann Hardwicke and Super D along with a smattering of Hornby LNWR coaches, so this new van is something I might pick up. It’s a shame the LNWR is so underrepresented in the modelling world; a 00 scale Precursor Tank or George V would no doubt sell well if someone made them.
@TheKnightTrain886 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I agree, a Precursor tank & George V make perfect sense. They can be done in LNWR and LMS guises, and BR in the case of several George Vs. I'd definitely pick those up if they came out.

Have the same problem with Bemo stock with this type of coupling
@TheKnightTrain88Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! That's a shame to hear, I think I'm going to take the loop of one coupling on each wagon so they couple more easily. Failing that I'll look at alternatives.

I got some of Dapol's unpainted wagons earlier this year. In fact one of them came with the breaking gear missing. They do run all right and hadn't derailed as much. I don't know if it's because I'm running trains slow or the bends are not too tight, but I haven't had any running issues.
@TheKnightTrain88Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Brake gear missing is an odd one, I've only had that with second hand Dapol wagons where someone's snapped it off for pre-grouping realism. Glad to hear you've not had any running issues.

Dapol has had mixed reviews in the past for their quality control. Their terriers being the main example as when they came out they had a lot of problems like not running well and parts breaking off quite easily. But from what I've seen and heard with the Hawthorn Leslie this might be a good operational model. The detail looks nice and doesn't seem to have any issues with running.
@TheKnightTrain882 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! I'd seen some people talk about Dapol releases having some motor or other quality issues which made me hesitant about taking the dive, but thankfully I've not encountered any problems.

I’m currently purchasing a Baguley Drewry from the UK and will be needing some wagons to go with it. These slate wagons look promising. Good review, might be worth looking at. Thanks.

Thanks for watching! They should be a nice pairing with the Baguley Drewry. Finances preclude me from picking one up at the moment but I might do in the future having now seen one in action at the Talyllyn Railway.

I've a backman and the international couplers are much finer metal and a pico box car for it ,the most expensive cost for such a little unit, my stuff is h.o. narrow gage ,runs on n scale track ,would get more narrow gage but the cost is prohibitive, I am in U.S.A. KANSAS , ❤
@TheKnightTrain884 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Interesting point about the coupling materials, I'll double check what the differences are. I know Peco make some metal ones, and I've found Kato do 009 couplings of 3 different lengths that might be the source of the issue.

It makes no sense to reconstruct a steam locomotive into battery electrics. Okay, maybe pushed by a battery powered booster vehicle. As for making the locomotive carbon neutral - just burn biofuel or wood…..
@TheKnightTrain885 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Given the environmental destruction and emissions wrought by mining for precious metals for renewable technology, something such as biochar sounds like a much more sustainable and less dramatic fit. Testing biochar and wood pellet alternative fuels are still on the testing phases, but surely much easier to trial and implement than a full battery/electric conversion.

It makes perfect sense to add a battery tender (like a brake tender) to vastly reduce wear, tear and consumption. It's sacralidge to just gut a steam loco for a fake rolling static display

Thanks for the fine review, TKT. Purchased two of these Anniversary Mallards (one for a gift). Initial reaction was a slight disappointment. They didn't have the appearance, feel or the weight of a special edition. Only one has been test run so far, crawling/slow running not smooth but may improve when run in. No problems with the faster running but remains to be seen what sort of a load it can pull. My earlier Hornby Mallard (early 2000s) looked great but couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding!

@TheKnightTrain885 ай бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for watching! I've not contacted Hornby as this was my dad's purchase that I was testing for him as I have a running loop and he doesn't (yet). I checked with him first and he's not going to contact them as he says he can live without the working LED, and I re-attached the bogie for him. It's his choice at the end of the day but if it was my purchase I'd be contacting them.
