Great video! Just seeing this before my trip to Canmore…. I know this is a long shot but…. I notice your DJI drone in the case in the video? Are you allowed to fly the drone here? Or is this still part of Banff? (Aka. No drones in national parks)? Thanks in advance
@photohuch
@photohuch 11 күн бұрын
Canmore is nestled right between Banff national Park (a Federal Park) and Kananaskis Country (a provincial park). So the town itself is in neither but very close to the borders of both! It drives me crazy to see videos where somebody’s flying a drone in Banff or K country and you know full well they didn’t get the licensing, which is really hard to get approval by the way . I wish people were more respectful of this stunningly beautiful area that I live near. Thank you so much for watching. You’ll love it in CANMORE! If you need any tips on photo spots, just drop me a note . Make sure you check out Rocky Mountain bagel Company. #Yummy! Cheers Cory!

@ thank you so much for your reply! I would / could never want to go against any rules of flying drones where we’re not supposed to. I shall leave the drone at home :) I agree Canmore is stunningly beautiful! I hope to be able to capture it as amazingly as you have. If you have any tips on good photo spots for winter (I’m leaving this week) I’d be happy to add it to my itinerary! I’m not much of a hiker, so I won’t be able to trek very far. Also trying to figure out if it would be better to go out near sunrise or sunset to get the sun on the 3 sisters in the winter.
@photohuch
@photohuch 11 күн бұрын
@VeronicaR07 three sisters for sunrise . I find this side of the Rockies, the Alberta side, better for sunrise than sunset but that doesn’t mean sunsets suck in Banff and Canmore area at all!. If you park at the small off leash dog park near the train tracks, beside Alpine Helicopter tours, by the first overpass as you come into Canmore, cross the train tracks and head straight to policeman’s Creek, that’s a fantastic place to shoot the three sisters in the morning. it’s only about 300 yards from the parking lot. Just follow the dried Cougar creek bed right to it. There is usually a few other photographs there so you don’t feel alone in the dark before sunrise 😉

One thing I have found that helps photographing in crowds is to squat down a little bit to take the shots. 1) it 'raises up'' the subject, thus 'empowering it' and, 2) usually less 'clutter' above the subject compared to directly behind it.

Nice stuff. I was a little worried about those middle shots when you were framing them up, but they turned out nicely. At the location where you are shooting, I find a nicely executed panoramic photo looks really good - a little south of the P&H elevator if you want to get all three elevators included with that train to the north.

Regarding Morant's curve train direction; Every train I have observed has an Engine or two at each end of the train, so that both East and and West bound trains will appear to be coming towards you in still shots, and video can be reversed in post processing. As a humorous aside, when you have a Camera and tripod setup, be prepared for one tourist after another to ask you when the train is coming.

I may have missed it, but which canon camera are you using? I'm planning to upgrade (maybe in about a year) from my Canon EOSM (the original in 2012) which I've been learning on for 3 years. I love it, but I'm facing many limits (processing speeds, grain, focus, etc.). I'd like to stick with mirrorless - I love how compact and familiar it is. I'm looking at the R6 Mark ii, the R7, and might even hold out and see if canon will release an R7 mark ii and if its competitive. I love to shoot macro and wildlife, but the dream is to be able to photograph skating as well (figure skating is my favorite sport).

I like your approach here. I shot a car show the other day, down on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in a town called Orange Beach, Alabama. I hadn't shot a car show in several years . I was quite overwhelmed by the amount carts at the show! it was a bright sunny day as most car shows seem to be . There were cars everywhere ,so it was difficult to figure out what was what . The place where they had the show had an open shopping area with streets and a large field ,plus there was a bridge above and there were cars under the bridge. It was quite chaotic but I managed to get some good shots. I have a Canon EOS R and a 24-70 RF 2.8 and a 16-35 EF F4 lens. Both are amazing lenses ,razor sharp ! When I shot the cars ,I was always mindful of what was behind me when I backed up ,I didn't want to back into someone . Folks were nice to step a side while I shot a car .

A little hint for Morant's Curve especially in the winter. Go out to Field and hang out, grab a coffee and wait for an eastbound train to leave. If you take your time going back to Morant's, the train should be along in about 30 minutes or so. You could even stop at Spiral Tunnels or grab another coffee at Laggan's in Lake Louise.

Great! Little help pls; have a canon EOS m50 mrk2. The instruction manual says don't use it below 0 degrees Celsius. ¿Does it means the camera get damaged if I shut photos in the cold Winter? ( -10 degrees ) I Know I should put it in plastic bag When go from outdoors to indoors, to avoid condensación. But wil camera suffer also during the Time I keep it Out in the cold?😢 Also, how avoid damage when in foggy and humidity in the air? Thanks✌
@photohuch
@photohuch Жыл бұрын
I don't see -10C being a problem at all. Just keep your batteries warm in your jacket. Also don't open your camera bag for a while after you come back inside from being out in the cold. Let it slowly warm back up. Think of it like a pair of glasses coming in for the cold. They immediately fog up when the lenses hit the warm air. I'm sorry but 'm not sure about the EOS 50 weather sealing when it comes to fog and humidity . I'd check to see if it has any weather sealing. Sorry, I wish I was more helpful for you. Maybe check in with your local camera store and ask the sales staff about the EOS 50. Cheers!

@@photohuch thank you. I was worried that below zero, I might damage the sensor, screen, electronic part, etc. My camera is not weather sealled, so i guess it helps if i cover it When outdoors and make shure water dont get to it. As for freeze cold; ¿the freeze cold itself dont damage it, but try to enshure slow temperature change and keep it in plástico bags When go indoor? In that case, i guess that when the manufacturer recomend not use it below zero, is not because you damage camera, but because of bateries? (the store sold it to me, is searching info in google, imagine how Much they know. I search info in blogs and KZbin🙂). The things is that I didn't understand why they not use it below zero. But if is only because bateries, it make sense. Thank you very much

Book Moraine early! LOL If you can find a tour to jump on bit It's very popular. TOO POPULAR ! LOL but amazing !!!!!!! Jasper is amazing. A true hidden gem that is really overshadowed but Banff. I love BOw LAke, Peyto lake on the drive out. So many perfect spot on the Columbia Ice Feilds Road as you drive out to Jasper from Calgary / Banff. Sunwapta Falls, Athabasca Falls are nice, and Pyramid lake is nice for stars. Jasper is a dark sky preserve so any where out of town will not disappoint for stars. As for Northern lights, they can be hard to predict. If you pop over to facebook and join / follow the Alberta Aurora Chasers group you get updates from them on when the Aurora might be out. It's not an every night thing like some might think. I follow them and when there a solar flare they even give an estimated day of arrival . Then on that day there thread that's updated by everyone who's out shooting so you know for sure if its worth heading out. It's a great community . I love it. Cheers! Have a blast!
