They’re not endangered. They’re considered so because the government has bad data
@zachb80122 ай бұрын
@@joeyfitzpatrickfishing Line fishing has a minimal impact on most species. If anything the meager numbers of game fish anglers keep is offset 10-fold by the fact most marine and freshwater fish conservation efforts are largely pushed by anglers themselves. The problems snapper face is the fault of deep sea trawling. The species congregate in dense schools and take about 5 years to reach reproductive maturity, but a large snapper might be 50 years old. Given the market desirability and ease with which entire populations can be scooped up in a trawling net, they've proven a difficult fishery to balance. I doubt it's a matter of FL biologists having bad data, as much the catch limits and windows are born of the desire to protect an otherwise healthy fishery that has collapsed in many other habitats, such as the Gulf.
@joeyfitzpatrickfishing2 ай бұрын
Brother, the snapper fishery on the Atlantic side is not a “healthy fishery”. It’s out of balance. You cannot hardly hook anything but red snapper. The east coast is allowed 1 day of fishing a year for recreational anglers. On red snapper day this year, my friends and I went 9 miles out and caught a 5 man limit plus others. 9 miles!!! Didn’t even touch the reefs and wrecks out further. The fishery in the gulf has not collapsed. You’re misinformed. Also, the Atlantic fishery is not managed by the state. It’s managed by NOAA and they do have bad data
