How big should I make hoops for a 5-6 year old girl? I don't know her height, and I'm making them as a gift for her

Do you go around twice with the electrical tape or just once around. Other than that I really appreciate the tutorial, great work👍

I only go around them once.

Nya:wëh. I have wanted to learn hoop dancing for years but only boys were taught when I was growing up. Now I am in my 60's and learning. It keeps me active as well.

You're welcome. Keep practicing. This is optional, but give me an update. I like those who I've helped along the way to see how their progress comes along. Thanks once again.

Nya:weh for sharing this. My ma is Seneca and when I was young only the boys were taught how to hoop dance. Now at 63 years old I am looking to do it for exercise and fun as well as learning about my culture.

Can you give us a tutorial on how to exactly put the tape on? Does it go all the way around? I see your red tape on the other hoops how many red stripes to put on each hoop and how far apart are they spaced? Also will that be on top of the tape that is all the way around?
@1stcha2 жыл бұрын
When you're putting on your first, or base wrapping of tape, you'll go right around the hoop completely. When putting on additional colours of tape, that will be your own preference. Spacing will be your choice too. I eyeball the spacing. You really don't have to put additional colours on either. Just a white or yellow would be good. Hope this helps out.

I am a music teacher and showed some of your videos to my students - many of them had never seen anything like hoop dancing before and really enjoyed it. Would it be appropriate for them to follow along with your tutorial videos and try to do this themselves? I recently learned that the dances can have spiritual significance, and I do not wish to offend if it is not appropriate for people who are not part of the culture to take part in these dances. If you are willing to provide any clarification about this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Thank you so very much your video tutorials of traditional native hoop dancing are fantastic. I have a children/family circus variety show and I am creating a basic native hoop dance act for my long show. I am very excited about it, though much of the tricks are different than the modern hoop dance and props I am trained in but I am picking it up fast. Thank you so much for sharing some of this incredible and traditional art form. I hope I can see live native hoop dance someday :)

What hoops do you recommend for the average person that wants to learn

@1stcha4 жыл бұрын
No problem. I'm 6'2, I measure my hoops at 6'4. When measuring your hoops just make sure that your shoulders and upper body can move through the hoops comfortably, but keep this in mind don't measure them too large and because then it affects your they way they look when making your designs. You just have to make them, play with them and you'll come to see what I'm talking about. Good luck.

How can I learn more of this style of dance? I've been looking for so long and this is the first time I come across a tutorial. Do you teach workshops? Thanks for posting 😊
@1stcha7 жыл бұрын
Hey Jenny thanks for subscribing. I do teach workshops if someone would like me to. Go over my channel and I give some really good lessons from 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 hoops and how to put hoops on legs and stack it all together on top as well. I think you'll really enjoy what I have on my channel. If your interested in a workshop I'm sure we can work something out. Thanks once again.

thank you for posting this! I'm seventh generation Nez Perce (niimiipuu) and I've lived far away from my tribe since birth, my grandmother and mother don't know hoop dancing only beadwork (and fancy dancing) and even that they haven't taught us because they were always too busy working and now that we are adults they're too old and tired to bother lol so on my behalf of myself and other natives who are also living removed from their culture I want to thank you, again. my tribe has also created language resources for its children/adults to learn our language so I'm involved in that. I've always been interested in hoop dancing, now I can finally learn just like I'm learning our language! never too late!

This is amazing, you properly describe hand placements which I have found to be one of the most difficult parts. Thank you so much for this, you have given me a lot of inspiration to teach my young ones.
