As a mostly casual player (never played in a competitive setting but have looked into deeper theory etc) I prefer to have Witch banned not because it is too powerful, annoying or hard to deal with but rather because its simply far too over-centralizing in most kingdoms it shows up in. Whenever Witch is in your game you have to prioritize not only it but any card that counters/mitigates it as well, which I don't really enjoy as someone who likes kingdoms where multiple decks, strategies and card combinations are viable as opposed to everyone racing toward the same "correct" build. The card may lead into interesting gameplay dynamics, but it certainly doesn't lead into interesting deckbuilding.

Idk if you’ll see this but i got into dominion a couple months ago and have since listened to your channel every single night since and I rly value the work that you did. Thank you for improving my game and feeding this fun hyperfocus. Like one of my favorite channels and criminally underviewed for the quality you put in.

If I want a stop card to give me money, give me copper over trade route. At least copper is non terminal and does not have a forced trash. It also gives me $1 instead of $0 for the majority of the game. Oh yeah, there is also a card that is called silver that costs the same as trade route. Why don’t you give me that? There are probably 8 times out of 10 that I would choose to not trash than to trash with trade route because I need to trash at least 2 curses, ruined villages, or maybe estates (if it is early enough in the game) for it to be better than buying nothing for a $3 buy. If I am using this to trash coppers or other ruins, I would need to trash at least 3 in most cases. This is not to mention that there is always going to be at least 1 card in every game of dominion that I would rather have in 99% of decks (the aforementioned silver) if the only benefit that I get from trade route is what I just mentioned. With that knowledge, there is no wonder why they removed trade route from the game. I might be being a little harsh on trade route, but probably not very.

With a card that is worded like farmland “Gain a card costing exactly 2 more than it” even if farmland was in the action phase, it would not gain you any card without other cost reduction because there is no card in the game that cost $10. That card in particular is actually beneficial for being in the buy phase because if you have 1 action card in play, you can gain a province.
@timothypike21712 ай бұрын
You’re incorrect, the bold dividing line underneath +1 coin signifies the below text to be separate from the on-play effects above the dividing line. In the case of Peddler the effect is ‘permanently active’ for each individual Peddler card and it is really as simple as it says. During a player’s buy phase it costs 2 less per action card they have in play. In short, effects that are below a dividing line are special, unique effects which may often be interacted with in situations other than by playing the card.. such as “on gain” or “on trash” etc.

I just played with this for the first time in a 3 player game and I already felt miserable so I laughed at that opening lol. It was especially bad since in a 3 player game, only me and 1 other player got Possession so I can't actually return the favour and possess that player back to balance out some of the damage they were doing to me

There was recently a rules change to possession so that you can only get one extra turn out of it at a time so you can’t play five possessions and get five extra turns. I just found this out when I played like three possessions, and only got one extra return.

I think the rules nuances make this card way too difficult to play, especially with more casual groups. I never use throne room variants.

Really enjoyed the videos! Found them just now when you are already done, but they helped me getting better at Dominion. Recently I have watched some videos of the trend of "I asked a player of another card game if these cards are bad, good or broken" From Magic, Yu gi oh, Hearthstone players etc. Where they invite someone who plays a different card game a lot but doesnt know much about their game, to let them guess if a card is good or bad. I think that concept could also be fun for Dominion. Letting a Magic or YuGiOh player guess if a Dominion card is good or bad after giving them a short rundown on how the game works, and the very basics of what kind of cards there are. Its always fun to see how players of different games approach a new game.

I really enjoy when Duke is viable. Ive had games where each Duke could score me 9 to 10 points (3 player) and it's so much fun for me in these games. Prior to watching this video i would "help my opponent" buy provinces too and try for Dukes even in a fast kingdom but you've taught me that those are not the right moves so I'm now making the most out of Dukes. Thank you.

I think the benefit of Mastermind in the first game would be that if you managed to start with, say, Kitsune in hand and a Riverboat in play, you could reduce your hand size without relying on your opponent and get a bit more out of the Souk play. If all of the Actions you have are draw, you just use the Souk first.

@roin975 ай бұрын
@@silastopole I mean, imagine you only have 3 sets because you never bought more. In that case, there is no problem in setting it up IRL. So when you choose to only play with 3, it’s kinda the same, only it’s a choice. But I do get the point that some people choose via online randomizers (esp. if they play with all 16 expansions), in which case you would have to relaunch it once the prophecy activates. But that’s like a 3-5 min delay max, so it’s not so bad

I think in the second kingdom you way overinvested in Native Village. I think the way I would have played was just Kings Court/Baker, Magnates and one or two Sacred Groves for Buy. Rice is decent payload but it's no match for Kings' Court on the same price.

I notice you often make plays in order to activate a prophecy, or you mention wanting to reveal the Avantos for draw. What you need to realize is, Dominion is a multiplayer game. Revealing the Avantos for draw isn't actually an advantage for you because it also gives your opponent access to them. Enabling the prophecy isn't much of an advantage because it affects both you and your opponent. It can be a slight advantage if you get access to the resource sooner, but it usually shouldn't be a core part of your strategy in terms of what cards you're picking up.

Dominion has been around for about 16 years at this point, and had a new expansion roughly every year, this is expansion #16. I think it's inevitable it seems complex if you're looking at it now but for the most part each expansion only focuses on a few new mechanics at a time so its easy to ease yourself into it slowly.
@jonatandjurachkovitch4605 ай бұрын
You don't have to go full random, playing with only a few expansions at a time is the most fun, imo. With the physical game it happens naturally as well.
@AleksandarDaGr85 ай бұрын
Man that first kingdom was crazy. I dont play on the app and only have about half the expansions and even then, I just mix 2 at most. Full random with everything is wild! The setup time in person for that first kingdom would make me puke
@BigOllieSpin5 ай бұрын
Try mixing 3 or 4, its great imo

I only have a small selection of expansions IRL but have a box that all the cards are in, so I don't have to dip into multiple boxes to set up a kingdom. The box is heavy and not very portable. I think full random among all the expansions is likely better digitally, can be impractical to set up otherwise.
@AleksandarDaGr85 ай бұрын
Which have you decided are worth having IRL and why?
@DominionCards5 ай бұрын
Most of my IRL sets were purchased very early on. I has 1st editions of Base, Intrigue, Seaside, Prosperity, Empires and Adventures. I have since bought the upgrade pack for the first 4. I stopped buying expansions because it became harder to play IRL, and there was just less good opportunity to introduce the more complex expansions. Try explaining Peasant to a new player, Teacher alone is this massive rules monster, you have to explain the tavern mat, the tokens, non-supply piles alongside the whole traveller thing. At that point I realized further sets were unlikely to get played.

Tide Pools is like the inverse of Tactician, where it benefits you now but hurts your next turn. Unfortunately, in this game, your next turn usually matters more than your current turn.
@nidoking0425 ай бұрын
I've been thinking about ways that Enlightenment messes with recent cards, and I hadn't even considered Action cards that play Treasures. The first game here really highlights how traditional Dominion strategies kind of go out the window in the face of such a sweeping change - trashing Coppers isn't necessarily beneficial, because they're almost more useful than nothing, and it makes sense to load your deck with Loot because you can cycle until you get the hand you want. Highways as your entire economy actually makes sense that way.
@fabyymusics5 ай бұрын
t5 in your first game (~4:14), you might have been able to pop the Lamp by playing Lucky Coin (and waiting with the Lamp), Continue -> Wayfarer (costing $3 due to the Silver gain), and had you then drawn any unique (Mountain Shrine or Sack or Secret Cave, so rather nice odds), the Lamp would have been popped :)
@DominionCards5 ай бұрын
Yeah that sounds like a great idea.
@jonatandjurachkovitch4605 ай бұрын
In the first game, couldn't you play Mountain Shrine without trashing anything?
@DominionCards5 ай бұрын
Yes, trashing a card is optional, once you've got an Action card in the trash you can also get the draw without needing to trash. Unfortunately I make very many mistakes in these games, they were a last minute idea in the absence of everyone being able to play the previews themselves so the videos are rushed and I'm not putting the full amount of thought into my plays.

I actually quite like that there was an example of prophecies not happening. A good way of showing that they're NOT just landmarks, they may never come to pass.
@theadamabrams5 ай бұрын
I agree that it's good to demonstrate that sometimes Prophecies don't trigger. But Enlightenment was one I particularly wanted to see mechanically, and at 13:39 they had a Poet in-hand! _They could have triggered Enlightenment on the very next turn_ but instead chose to discard the Poet. I don't really understand why.
