Have you ridden the Harley? It’s pretty sweet. I’m looking for Desert x rally.

The DDX is incredible, after having now pushed it hard in a number of different terrains. I have not ridden the Harley but I hear it’s super heavy. My dad rides a Multistrada V4 Rally that has the same motorized suspension adjustment. My only major viable complaint about the DDX is the wind buffeting at 70+mph.

@@actionmotorcycles shorter windscreen and get clean air. Windshields will always make wind buffering. I’ve been racing dirt bikes and riding Harley’s for 30 years and absolutely hate buffering. Ha I’ve spent thousands of dollars trying to make bikes right. Either a full fairing or nothing at all. Cool videos!

@johnanthony6141 Yeah, I’m in sort of a ‘fashion is suffering’ scenario with the DDX because the shorty and touring windscreens change the aesthetic of the bike IMO. 😂 Thank you for watching!!

@@johnanthony6141 Yeah in a lot of ways it’s not a fair fight… coming from someone who is 5’-8”, the seat height of the Himalayan makes it one of very few realistic options for a significant amount of the population. Thanks for commenting!

That’s fair enough… have you seen FortNine’s video on all the things ‘recommended’ or ‘required’ to be done at the dealership? Really tough for an ADV bike. However, IMO that kinda comes with the territory if you’re buying a Ducati. For me the wind buffeting at highway speeds coming off that windscreen is MUCH more of a dealbreaker… but it just looks so good :)

Buddy... you need to be riding no less than 35mph in sand to stay up and straight on these big bikes. Look at some of my videos, we eat up sand like it's a dirt road, some times riding in it as slow as 45mph, alot of times 60+. With a t7 and a klr650

Heavy bikes are not good on sand/silt... but that's just something you'll need to get used to rather than a disaster. Technique can help quite a bit but I've not yet found a technique that eliminates the occasional sand wipe out on 450+lb bikes. On my 701 I can avoid wipes on sand completely by keeping speeds down (20 or so when I'm carrying full luggage)... but there is no speed that I've found that works on heavyweight bikes like the DesertX. Going faster is actually better but you will still have issues and then when you wipe it'll be more energetic. Low tire pressure helps a LOT but on big bikes that's not a typical option (not even sure how easy/hard it would be to get bead lock rims for a bike like that).

And let's not forget you can get three Himalayan for the price of one Desert X. Probably four by the time you've added a couple of minor options to the Ducati. They're a nice bike to ride but I just wouldn't want to own one for fear of smashing it up. The Himalayan is so sturdy, it's likely to break whatever it falls onto, rather than break itself.

I only have a few issues with the Himalayan, and they’re probably not much different than many others but as long as you remember “why” you bought a RE and not a Kawasaki, Honda, KTM, etc, you’re gonna have a bike that’ll do point A to B. That’s what this bike is all about. Getting you out there. Nice job!! Your sound and video equipment works well!! Willie

@actionmotorcycles 10 ай бұрын
Thanks Willie! Genuinely my only real issue with the REH is not whether it can do cross-country or long distance highway trips between off-road adventures but whether I have the time to only travel 70mph (at redline no less) making such a trip. Coming from a pro I appreciate the compliments! Your videos make it look easy sir! I’m still trying to get the right balance for sound at high speed.

@@actionmotorcycles My videos? lol 😂 I’m just a ham, I wing it… I Have fun with it, try to entertain and hopefully those who watch get something from it as well. You’re in a very “content worthy” area.. where I am in Va, not so much. Too much freakin’ pavement😝 I’d love to be where you are.. great scenery and places to ride. With all that, as long as you keep it entertaining while enjoying it yourself, don’t turn it into work, you’ll go a long way.. I started out with a fishing channel that has morphed in to an outdoors channel and my most watched video is on the Honda Monkey🤪😄… Most people watch KZbin for “information” and if you’re lucky, they subscribe and follow. Doing the “outdoor thing” on a motorcycle will keep people watching. I do a little bit of everything, so I understand there’s videos people will watch and some that won’t get watched as much.. but I’m totally cool with that. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, my opinion means squat😆, but you’ve got a good foundation.. Willie

I own a 22 Himalayan. I’ve owned many motorcycles but I bought the Himalayan based on how much you get for the money compared to the big name Japanese companies. A lot less dealership mark up on the REH. I found that as long as you look at the Himalayan as a motorcycle that is in a class of its own and try not to compare it to Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc.. you have a bike that’s a lot like a multi-tool, for lack of better example. It’s a tool, it does the job. Not the fastest, most comfortable, or even dependable in some aspects but does the job. I wanted something that would “do the job” and not spend $8,000 on a bike with a $6,000 sticker. I like my Himalayan but it has its flaws. I also have two Honda Monkeys, which are a blast, would love to ride one of them on the beach in Galveston, that would be awesome. Nice video Man!! Willie, Newport News, Va.
@actionmotorcycles
@actionmotorcycles 10 ай бұрын
Thanks Willie! That’s exactly how I feel, it’s in a class by itself specifically set apart by it’s value - what you get for the price. I will say this, it has the lowest seat height of anything remotely in its class and certainly has the lowest seat height of any bike capable of doing what it does so well. Glad you enjoyed the video! Keep watching, big things coming up! Come on down to TX sometime and we’ll get some sand on your tires.

Great review. I've heard great reviews of how this handles off roads but equally bad ones on highway riding...you will have no option sometimes to do highways @120kmph and it seems this will be pretty unstable to ride. Unless you put this on a trailer till u go off road. Any experience? Thoughts on that
@actionmotorcycles
@actionmotorcycles Жыл бұрын
Absolutely I do have experience with the highway. IMO it’s not a question of stability. The bike feels stable at 70mph no problem (at least to me). The only issue is when you need some power on the highway to change lanes or avoid an unforeseen traffic issue it’s just not there at 70mph. At high speed you’ll get to 75 or 78 ‘eventually.’ So what I would say is the bike is *capable* on the highway but that’s not where it impresses. Hope this helps! Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already!

@actionmotorcycles
@actionmotorcycles Жыл бұрын
Great question! It’s a tough one to answer frankly because everyone’s situation is different. I have two bikes and my set up works perfectly for me as it fits my budget and between the two I get everything I need. I will say if I was looking to do a lot of long distance touring I would at least be considering other bikes with a bit more highway power. However, the RE could absolutely do it. I did a 7 hour ride on it this past weekend with 3.5 of that being at 70+ mph. It’s absolutely everything I need off-road. I have used it as a commuter as well. I suppose my advice would be: given the low price point, why not give it a shot and see for yourself. You’re a new rider, it will keep you from going ‘full squid’ and if you find it’s not giving you what you need you can always trade up. Definitely worth a test ride, that’s a no-brainer. Best of luck, let me know what you decide and what the results are! (Also please subscribe if you haven’t already!)

Best of luck to you! There’s certainly been a lot of talk about the 450 for years and now it seems so close to reality. Personally I’m reserving judgement until I can get a test ride and look at the price tag. The big selling point for me with the 411 Himalayan is the value - you get so much for such a low price.
