Is there any way to play this with a high G string? I hate to restring my ukulele differently just for this 1 song…. But I’m tempted!

Imagine making an instructional ukulele video with audio this terrible. Imagine not only starting to do that, but then continuing, and then imagine looking at the "finished product" and then actually publishing the thing.

Imagine making assenine comments on the video of the guy who has done the BEST demo of Iz's unique technique! And then imagine not even being embarrassed for making such a fool of oneself. 😂

I can't really hear him plucking the third string as you're doing here, but yes I definitely hear the fourth string plucked as the downbeat note, followed by the strumming pattern you've indicated. Regardless of what I actually may hear, however, I "hear" you on the benefit of digging deeper and sometimes making things more difficult for ourselves, deliberately! There's a lot of interest in this song, obviously, but at least for those of my mindset, less interest in playing/singing it to sound exactly like Iz (which is probably not possible anyway). There is something to be said for mimicking a well-established artist or performer, for sure. It's a good exercise. But that's not necessarily art, so much as craft. I think the art lies in making one's own interpretation. I'll get to that point later, but I really appreciate you sharing your own evolution on this path. I want to get it "right" and then venture off on my own. :)

🎶🎸🎸🎶 The Braguinha was introduced to Hawaii in 1879 by the Portuguese, which the Hawaiian craftsmen evolved into the ÜKULELE, there after becoming entwined with the historic Surf Culture. Would it be a reasonable alternative to substitute a left-hand finger mute instead of the right-hand palm mute? To my ear it sounds about the same, and I want an excuse to practice left-hand muting.

When you plug the G string with your thumb, it sounds low, mine sounds higher, why?
@HappyHeathen-JD2 ай бұрын
He is playing with a Low-G tuning, which is also what Iz used. (This where the top/4th string is switched out for a G string one octave lower - the remaining strings are tuned the same.) You can easily change the tuning on your ukulele, but will need to purchase a set of strings that specify "Low-G" in the name and description. If you've never restrung a uke, there are many good tutorial videos here on KZbin (or a guitar shop will do it for a fee if you buy Low-G strings there.) Many players keep more than one uke, so they can have at least one uke with Low-G and one with traditional tuning, so they can switch off depending on the music they want to play. Older traditional Hawaiian music usually uses the traditional (high-g) tuning.
