There's certainly a bit of technique in playing ukulele for this song, Mister Maestro Israel Kamakawewo'ole with his big fingers certainly made it seem so simple. But that is what its all about, practise makes perfect, which than translates as easy once you mastered it. Fantastic lesson from you, thanks for sharing. AARON FROM AUSTRALIA.

No, I know the song isn't reggae, but he plays it in a reggae style. Lots of people from Hawai'i are influenced by reggae music and have even developed their own style of music called Jawaiian music (a combination of Jamaican and Hawaiian). Some of the local Jawaiian jams are so much fun. Go check 'em out!

Nice rhythm, but may I make a few suggestions? Try plucking the G string by itself on the first beat, and then mute all the strings on that rest in the middle. I'm working on it off and on, but I think that's what gives it the reggae beat. Nice work though!

Hey I'm trying to learn this song and the DDUUDU is how I was taught but it doesn't sound right through the whole song I was wondering what parts you could switch strum patterns on and also my thumb gets in the way when I'm holding the chords down and I can't find a comfortable place to put it? If that makes any sense. Great video though!! OH ALSO what chords do u use for this version I think I'm playing it differently.
@SuperUkulele
@SuperUkulele 9 жыл бұрын
Hey Ekaterina! DDU UDU is a good way to start playing this song. To really sound like IZ when playing this song though you'll do some things a bit different. You incoorporate the thumb plucking the 4th string, and then it's pretty much DUDUDU after that. If you want to get even more technical, you'll pluck the 4th string with your thumb, then pluck the 3rd string with your index finger, then DU UDU. You can get even more technical than that, but start slow and simple then get more technical. Your thumb of your "ukulele hand" (left hand) should really only rest on the back of the neck without wrapping around the top in any way. For the chords just visit my channel homepage and find the video for "How To Play Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Hope this helps you and THANK YOU for the kind words too and any "likes" you may have left.

would i have to buy a new ukulele for a low g, or could i just restring my current one?
@robertkurtz6275
@robertkurtz6275 7 жыл бұрын
You should be able to restring pretty much any ukulele with a low G. You can buy low G strings by themselves if your other strings are still okay, or get a whole set with the low G. In Hawaii, every music store seems to sell low G strings...on the mainland you might have to order online. (I was surprised to go to a Guitar Center in CA a while ago and find that they had never heard of such a thing....)

what kind of tuning are you using? because my G is sounding more high than your fourth string
@greenorangedaniel
@greenorangedaniel 9 жыл бұрын
Pascal Mailhot Low G. More of a deeper sound. Just go to a Music Store & ask for a low G string for what ever size 'ukulele you have. facebook.com/green.orange.daniel/videos/709777165818501/?l=7060438170174930093 As you can see I was able to put it on my soprano (small) 'ukulele. Even though these are tenor strings. Since I don't know if they make low G's for soprano (small) 'ukuleles.

Aaron...you are correct bud. It is tuned one octave lower because it's a "Low G string" which is different from the standard lighter G string that comes on the ukulele when you first purchase it. That's how IZ liked it for this song from what I've heard.

Awesome tutorial, with clear instructions. Would you be able to someday do a tutorial on the Beatles "Across the Universe"? There are some tutorials on youtube, but something is missing from them--they just don't sound like "Across the Universe." There is one video that sounds most like "Across the Universe," but it's not a tutorial (kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6KahomChpqLirs). Also, does Bruddah Iz pronounce his name kah-mah-kah-veevoh-olay or kah-mah-kah-vee-wall-ay? :/
